I only saw about half of the Marlies game but was very impressed with Abruzzese...Handling the puck and making high end plays at high speed...Very smart player.. Hopefully he will be able to play effectively at the NHL level next year.. We'll need some less expensive talent next year after they sign O'Reilly and Bunting and a few others this off season...;)

a potential NCAA free agent worth looking at?

Considering he is the top NCAA free agent on the market by far this year, I would say so.

Every team will be in on him... Not much unlike Steeves from a few years ago.

Just realized the Athletic ranked him #1 out of pending UFA's this year. Probably well deserved and he should have no shortage of suitors himself. Livingstone is #3. Sam Malinski is #2, although he is undersized and is a 24 year old in the NCAA so not sure I would put him there (assuming these guys are ranked). Former OHLer turned NCAA player Austen Swankler was 4 and Maine's Victor Ostman was 5 as the highest ranked goalie in what is likely a weak goalie crop. Wasn't able to see much past that due to the paywall, but this site has the SHL/Swedes listed:

Some of them have contracts listed for next year according to EP, but maybe Pronman assumes they can be bought out or that they are wrong on EP (sometimes they are).

Have to imagine Valterri Pulli is fairly high on that list too. He is attracting a ton of attention and has been on my list since the start of the year. Probably not going to see any Russians on there either, even though there could be some good ones; I still like Grigori Dronov even though he was signed and mutually terminated by Carolina over the course of 2 days earlier this year.

Fast forward to 2025.
Is Knies or Robertson the better player?

I've watched every gopher game this year, and it's hard to imagine knies not having the current edge. He's honestly a little bit of a psycho out there. For a guy his size, i've never seen someone backcheck or forecheck harder lol. Which is kind of why I think he's destined for success. He does not like to lose; he goes all out every game and dishes out and can take punishment. He's a tough SOB.

It's also been interesting to watch him paired with Cooley as well since it gives you a potential glimpse into playing with a top level NHL center. Cooley is unbelievably skilled, fast and thinks quick AF, and Knies has been able to take advantage of it. Will be interesting to see who he would be paired with when he goes to Toronto.

I can't tell you how many times out of nowhere at the bottom of the screen you see this tank just dipping a** looking like he's going to pass tf out because it looks like he's giving every last ounce of juice his body as left to give, especially on backchecks if there a turnover or something. Cracks me up every time.

Honestly I've seen enough of that line and I'm reminded of Hyman. More or less if line were
Hyman (Knies)-Marner (Cooley)-Nylander (Snuggerud)

He does a lot of the dirty work on the boards, in the corners, behind the net and at the crease. But he's also good at getting the puck to the open man. Just a good player all around.

Thank you.

I'm telling you guys McMann is the type to give it his all every single shift and be the guy to pot a game winning goal when you need it most. Get this guy in the lineup

Minnesota are the heavy favourites to win the championship. If they go the distance, Knies can then rush to sign and join the Leafs after they win. There should be 3 games left to the regular season if this happens.
Ya and games against the Lightning and Rangers to boot. We'll find out real quick if he's ready to take reps in the playoffs this season.

If only snuggerud was as skilled as nylander, but that is pretty accurate. Knies is a legit leader, captain material type of guy. He already feels like the leader of the team, which is something considering he's a true sophomore in college meaning he didn't do extra year of juniors or anything after high school.

Also, Snuggerud is good but idk... Feel like he's struggling with overall fitness if that makes sense. He can't maintain knies level of play, not even close. I got my 4 year old nephew an authentic Matthews jersey for his birthday this year.... Is a knies jersey in his future? We shall see.

Man I have to say I don't think Hyman is a great comparison for Knies. Knies honestly has great hands, I know this year he's said he's been more focused on keeping things simple and leveraging his physicality but he can also legitimately dangle through NCAA defenders. Doesn't have Hyman's speed either. Stylistically he reminds me of Landeskog.

Imagine if he became a Landeskog for us!

Landy is a good comp. JVR with fire is what I've boiled it down to recently. Lacks the vision to be truly elite, but insane hands, great shot, average skater.
