Kinda doesn't sound as cool for Greb if its "part of Knies, Minten, Niemela, Hirvonen, Voit, Hildeby and more!" haha

I think it would be awesome if Dubas spent literally a minute listing off 30 prospects

Especially if he was just asked a really stupid question from a reporter crapping on our prospects or is overly concerned about us trading picks.

For some reason it reminds me of the poster (cant remember if it was HF or Reddit) who knew a guy that was taken in the 9th round and how proud that made his family, so naturally the OP wanted to extend the draft to 20 rounds so that more people could be drafted and then it would spread the joy of hockey everywhere

Coulda been drafted in the 20th round by Toronto and told all your friends about it!

Reminds me of the OHL TBH.

Fast forward to 2025.
Is Knies or Robertson the better player?
Based on the way Robertson’s seasons have gone the last 2 years it's hard to picture him having a long successful career. He can't seem to stay healthy. If he can get some full seasons going and get his development back on track, I could still see him becoming a 50 pt player but not likely now.

My money would be on Knies

I've said it before, perhaps Robertson's future is in Europe.

He's obviously talented, but that's a useless attribute if you're always on IR.

At the same stage Robertson was a better prospect. For 2025 I have to say Knies because Robby just can't improve if he keeps getting hurt. Not only that but he almost definitely will have to change his style of play to stop getting hurt and it could sap what's made him so effective at lower levels and what would make him an equally great NHL player.

Reminds me of Konecny in that his style of play kept causing injuries despite there being a top-6+ player in there. Konecny fixed the risky stuff, stopped putting himself in bad positions, and has managed to stay on the ice for the most part. Robertson needs to take a page.

I think for me there is equal parts prospect fatigue and legitimate concerns regarding Robertson's play style for me. He is not an overly intelligent player, and it is kind of on full display when he goes fearlessly into certain battles. There have been plenty of undersized players with half as much skill who have made a lengthy NHL career. He's got to find a way to be more quiet on the ice and let the play come to him. Until he does that he will be an AHL/NHL tweener.

He's put on some muscle which has allowed him to be stronger on the puck vs. when he broke into the pro game. But like I was alluding to above, he continues to try and force plays that he could make with a higher efficiency in Junior, and it just doesn't work that way in the pro game. One thing about Nick that is maybe the best amongst our prospects is his determination to improve and be an NHL player. So the one thing I don't think I will ever do is count him out. That said, I can only imagine where his head is at right now. He just can't seem to stay healthy.

His talent far exceeds Europe IMO, but his IQ and ability to stay healthy might end up being the reason he seeks better opportunities abroad. Hopefully that's not the case. Still lots of time for Nick, he is only 21 afterall.

@SeaOfBlue @Morgs @93LEAFS

Any insight on Matthew Wood? 18 yrs old and 6'3, leading Tverberg's team in scoring with 28 pts in 30 games. Had 85 pts in 46 games in the BCHL last year.
Haven't watched him play besides the one game I saw Tverberg in earlier this year, but he's definitely a 1st round pick, maybe as high as top-15. The production is fantastic. Bader's model has him at a 43% chance of being a star. Mitch Brown's tracking doesn't paint a pretty picture, but he only has a 3 game sample size. He should be out of our range at this point so I likely won't go too much further in depth with how busy I've been.

Keep in mind that I have only seen him play 3-4 games at the begining of the season.

His biggest weakness is skating. Wood would lumber all over the ice. He's very skilled though with good playmaking and has a very good shot as he's the number one option on the power play. Not very physical. He's similar to grebyonkin actually.

He reminds me a bit more of a Nikita Soshnikov whose issue was having a bit of a narrow upper body for taking normal contact but obviously doesn't help that he wants to play the game as if he had a Knies type frame. Sosh also couldn't get ahead of the wear and tear. Also had a pretty good arsenal of shots, but was a little bigger and a better skater.

There is little reason for ZAR to be in over McMann
Why? He was on the Leafs and didn't produce 1 point in his 8 games here. He's going off in the AHL and that's what we want to see but it doesn't translate to NHL scoring. IMO he's earned a spot on the Leafs next year and has earned the top spot for a call up if we need it. Our entire bottom 6 next year except Jarnkrok are FA after this season. So guys like McMann, Steeves, Holmberg, Abruzzese and SDA all have a very good chance to make the roster next year. Might as well let them dominate in the AHL and make a run for the Calder Cup because they have a 20 point lead in their division which pretty much guarantees they won the division and 2nd in the entire league. ZAR might not produce huge points but he's very reliable and can play a grinder role which is what you expect from most 4th liners who make league minimum.

Haven't been following as closely as I used to, so really can't provide much info. When I talk to people I know who do closely follow this stuff I'll ask what the industry thoughts on him are.

Big difference between Konecny, who at the time reminded me of Fabbri for the same issues, is Konency was a significantly better skater. The thing that always worried me about Robertson was his lack of ability to avoid getting hit, and his propensity to hold on the puck too long. At the NHL level without elusiveness like Marner for example if you hold on too long your are just going to get blown up at his size.

Konecny is just the first player I remember scouting that I legitimately didn't think would be amount to anything because I didn't think he'd stay healthy long enough. I legit thought his career would be what Robby's has been so far: insane promise, cant stay healthy. Never seen a guy so intent to put himself in bad situations.

Although I don't believe Robby's size is the issue, similar to a guy that's 6'6" you need to understand your limitations or it won't work.

First Marlies game I've been to in a long time. (Took my sons a few times when the were kids, and used to go fairly regularly in the 60s.)

Fun game. McMann and Holmberg were good as was the goalie.

The player who actually impressed me the most was Reilly Walsh, the Utica defenceman.

Wasn’t he the one with the arm that rivals an NFL QB?
That was pretty awesome.
Those three played well.
I liked Ellis’ speed and shot.
Rifai looked steady and calm.
Hoefenmayer likes to let it rip. NickA has good hands and vision. Steeves looked solid. Johnstone played with good energy. Clifford plays with good pace down there.
Lots to like.
Question: where were SDA and Kral and Kokkonen?
And also: did everyone know that all Marlies games are now being streamed on the Leafs app? That was advertised…not sure if I’m late to the party or not. Anyways, just an fyi.

The Marlies play in Scotia Bank Arena a few times a year so be sure to check that out. My dad and I went to a Marlies game in SBA back in 2019 and I was able to watch Sandin and Liljegren play together, it was a lot of fun!

I think March 17th is the last game of the year the Marlies play in SBA
