We suddenly have an embarrassment of goalie options for the Marlies

Kallgren
Woll
Petruzzelli

Not to mention Cavallin has been crushing the ECHL and would deserve an AHL look at some point with a normal depth chart. And he's not even the biggest name we have there, there's McKay who has seen AHL time already this year.

Will be interesting to see how they divide games.

I still think Ovchinnikov is going to be a player one day. High end speed. I just think he needs to bulk up a bit. I will say his stint with the Marlies last season was a touch underwhelming, but he still a pup. Nice to have had him experience NA and see him starting to have some success in the K

It's a nice problem to have. Cavallin was up for the weekend, but didn't play. And Petru is on an ELC now, so he can't refuse assignment to the Growlers. One of the three is going to be loaned out somewhere eventually.

Anyone have Leafs' list?

Be interesting to see how it differs from readilyavailabletoeveryone's list.
Would be sweet if the Leafs bluprint shared more of their draft process and we could see their scouting lists but obviously they wont do that, so they don't show their hand to other teams.

With Hollowell and Holmberg playing pretty good, are we getting to the point where some of the guys drafted by Dubas start to help out? I don't really follow prospects much and freely admit if you asked me a few weeks ago who Hollowell and Holmberg were, I wouldn't have known.

Just curious, many people have complained that Dubas sucks, he hasn't drafted anyone who has helped etc. but it's way too early obviously to whine about that so I was wondering what the status of our prospect pool was in general. I know that's a very general question so feel free to ignore, I was just wondering, rambling ... feels good so see some of these guys contribute, especially guys that were drafted in the later rounds.

There is a childrens book by Astrid Lindgren called "Rasmus, Pontus och Toker". Great book (like everything Lindgren ever wrote), I read the translation and loved it. Rasmus and Pontus are two young boys who are best friends, Toker is a dog they love. I would love to see a guy named Toker added to our roster and have Rasmus, Pontus and Toker line up as a forward line just one time, I would be laughing for weeks. :)

There are others who can answer this much better than I, but overall we have an optimistic but not spectacular group.

Some of our better names would be the more obvious ones, Amirov and Knies, for example. If Amirov ever gets to play again, he had offensive vision to really open up the ice and make plays. Knies on the other hand is a guy who can use his body to open up the ice and let go with a pretty heavy shot, for his level.

A lot of our lower rated guys are impressing too though. SDA is finally rounding out in the AHL; Voit is having a dominant season in the OHL; Moldenhauer is stepping his game up in the USHL; even Fraser Minten has been punching up and defending his draft position; Niemela has calmed his game down and is benefiting from proper experience; Tverberg is a staple on his NCAA team.

Overall, a lot of our prospects are playing at or above level.
But the truth of the matter is, we don't have any game breakers - I suspect most of these guys will take a hit transitioning to North American major pro, but should get some NHL games from the lot.

That Rasmus and Pontus story is great, lol

Stronger than it gets credit for. As @uncleben said, no real gamebreakers but is absolutely stacked with guys trending to play NHL games with middle 6 potential. Defense is the weak spot in my opinion, but upfront we've got solid diversity, guys playing well throughout the different stages of the pipeline that are tracking as good or better than Hyman/Moore/Engvall/Brown/ Johnsson etc.

Thanks guys, that sounds pretty good. Considering we haven't had many first (and the ones we've had have been late round picks), not expecting any game breakers and really, we have our game breakers already so that's fine. I'm hoping Niemela develops into a top 4 guy, maybe Knies becomes something special but mostly, I'm just hoping we get to the point where we can fill out the forward spots on the roster internally as opposed to hitting up the UFA market and it sounds like we're trending in that direction which is great.

Is there anyone other than Niemela that might be able to help out on D in the coming years?

Maybe?

Villeneuve has some potential. He's got some work to do, has to bulk up, get stronger, and adjust to the pro game, but he has potential as a 6'2" RD. "If" he makes it, it's going to be a few years.
Hollowell has actually played pretty good for us.
Hoefenmayer has played well for the Marlies, putting up points, can skate well. higher IQ. Numbers game says he doesn't really have a shot until after Giordano is gone... so we have some time to see if he can develop further.
Rifai is another LD.. .already 23, but played college... so who knows? I've liked what I've seen from him so far.

Maybe we get some bottom pairing out of these guys... No standouts though..

Where's Dylan Ferguson?

Losing Amirov's development curve to a life changing disease set the Leafs prospect cupboard back a bit. At the end of the day, it happens and there are bigger things than hockey. Unpredictable.

I do think the Leafs have drafted pretty well considering their position and lack of picks. We'll see how they do when they transition to NA and pro hockey though. I think a lot of people are sleeping on Robertson, Steeves and Abruzzese with their upside.

There's definitely a lack of defensive upside after Niemela. Villeneuve and Kokkonen are solid but not sure about their upside.

We don't really need game breakers out of our prospect pool, we just need the Marlies to be a factory pumping out two-way middle-6 ELC forwards to replace the Kerfoot/Engvalls on the team.

Kapanen is the ideal blueprint for what we need our system to produce, get 3 years of good bottom-6 play, turn him into a pick once he prices himself off the team, and have the next man up ready to go.

Agree with most of the above, but would add Kral. He seems like one of the guys most ready for some NHL work when healthy and I believe he can play both the left and right side.
