What the hell man. Ty Voit has 28 points. The second place guy (Othmann) has 23 points. Third place is 18 points! He's already 10 points ahead of the 3rd leading scorer in the OHL, insanity.

Yeah Voit is a player I never expected to blow up offensively like that. Definitely the best playmaker in the OHL, maybe even the CHL.

Ty Voit has to be under strong consideration for the WJC I would think

Team USA sometimes makes some weeeeeird roster decisions. They also have a fairly strong lineup I think. If he keeps up that current pace I don't think they have a choice though.

I’m not surprised by voit. I thought the only thing holding him back was his teammates, but it appears they are doing better this year. A lot of his points last year were primary assists so him scoring a lot this year should be expected. His playmaking has more range. He can make cross-seam passes, one-touch passes, and stretch passes as well.

I remember the prospect polls last year I had him ahead of SDA. I thought i was bold, but apparently not.

Edit: On another note, the leafs didn’t use kral nuuuuu.

Voit and Dumais who is another player I was hoping we would snap up are probably the two best pure playmakers in the CHL.

Nolan Burke might be someone the Leafs try to get on the Marlies/Growlers after their season.

Incredible start of the season for Ty. If he can keep this pace up for the entirety of the season it would be absolutely remarkable.

Nice to see Petru also doing well. We desperately needed one ore more of Petru, McKay, Peksa, Akhtyamov, and Hildeby to emerge this season into a legitimate NHL option. Almost all of these prospects have taken moderate to large steps forward in their development. Really nice to see the early returns so far

We will see! These lower league performances only matter if they translate to the NHL but it’s certainly a great sign.

4 guys now from his first class have played an NHL game, and SDA could arguably join them relatively soon as well (I don't see Hollowell amounting to much more than a Duszak-type defenseman in the AHL). Steeves would have also been first-year eligible in that class and has played a couple of NHL games himself.

There are still certain things he can do better, but he is one of the best drafters in the league. Developing them is a TBD, but it is not like they look poor in the AHL either and we had trouble even getting guys to make the AHL before he took over so there are positives.

Assuming we have to get rid of a guy with an NHL contract? Or do we have room for one more?
Leafs are at 50 contracts so they will need to make a move. Easy to move contracts though so they'll be fine. Assumimg Leafs are in a good position come the trade deadline, Leafs probably want 4-5 slots open for flexibility and to get Knies signed

Are Voit and Minten our only 2 prospects that have a shot at playing WJC this year?

Yep pretty much. Minten might make it as a role player but even then, that might be tough.

Moldenhauer has been good but seems like an impossible task for him to make Team Canada from the USHL.

Grebenkin has an outside shot at Russia's team, not likely though.

Total List of eligible players:

Voit
Grebyonkin
Kressler

Minten
Moldenhauer
Lisowsky

Voit and Minten are the only ones with decent to good chances

Grebyonkin/Kressler are playing/producing well enough that in a pure meritocracy they should get consideration, but neither has much of/any track record with the top level nation programs so it's highly unlikely. Kressler just doesn't have the track record playing at this level. Greb on the other hand was one of the best 03's in the MHL last year, and is top 9 in U20 KHL scoring this year- so there's a chance.

Moldenhauer would be getting consideration if he were American, but double whammy of no track record + USHL says no chance for Canada.

Lisowsky simply isn't that tier of player right now.

Edit- living in a hockey bubble, does Greb even have a team to play for or is Russia still banned?

I can see Minten making it as Canada’s 4th line center. Can play in any role they ask of him offensively and defensively.
