For people that know more about ELC contracts, are there any bonuses that Knies could potentially get if he plays out the last couple games of the season/ playoffs or is it just a contract year that is used?

Obviously he hasn't signed his contract yet, so we wont know for sure. I'm just curious.

Obviously he hasn't signed his contract yet, so we wont know for sure. I'm just curious.

Games played bonuses are restricted as follows:
  • (i) five (5) games played
  • (ii) ten (10) games played Knies cannot reach 10GP this season
  • (iii) more than ten (10) games played Knies cannot reach more than 10GP this season
A 5 game bonus would be capped at $25,000.

Other performance bonuses would be as follows, but are highly, HIGHLY unlikely
ELC bonuses for forwards are as follows*:
  • Ice time (aggregate and/or per Game). Player must be among top six (6) forwards on the Club (minimum 42 Regular Season Games played by Player and comparison group) Knies cannot reach 42GP this season
  • Goals: 20 Goal Minimum
  • Assists: 35 Assist Minimum
  • Points: 60 Point Minimum
  • Points Per Game: .73 Points Per Game Minimum (minimum 42 Regular Season Games played) Knies cannot reach 42GP this season
  • Plus-Minus Rating: Among top three (3) forwards on the Club (minimum 42 Regular Season Games played by Player and comparison group) Knies cannot reach 42GP this season
  • End-of-Season NHL All-Rookie Team
  • NHL All-Star Game (selected to play or plays) Knies missed the All-Star Game
  • NHL All-Star Game MVP Knies missed the All-Star Game
*These are the bonuses the team can offer. The Leafs do not have to offer any of these with the ELC.

The League themself also offers bonuses to all ELCs. Here are the bonuses that Knies is technically eligible for:
  • top five (5) in balloting for the Hart, Selke, Richard
  • top three (3) in balloting for the Lady Byng
  • top three (3) in balloting for the Calder
  • 1st All-Star Team nomination
  • 2nd All-Star Team nomination
  • Player wins the Conn Smythe
  • forward who finishes among the top ten (10) forwards in the League in goals
  • forward who finishes among the top ten (10) forwards in the League in assists
  • forward who finishes among the top ten (10) forwards in the League in points
  • forward who finishes among the top ten (10) forwards in the League in points per Game (Minimum 42 Regular Season Games played by Player and comparison group) Knies cannot reach 42GP this season
There are a few that Knies is no longer eligible for because of GP, and the rest... well, if Knies manages to rack up 60 points in the next 8 games or fewer, then he deserves every single bonus he earns
They're all a stretch, and bonuses like the individual awards are only really available by technicality. They'll never award those trophies to players who play less 60 games, in reality, let alone someone who played less than 10, no matter how good they were.

Interestingly enough, the performance bonus Knies has the MOST chance to clinch (save for the 5GP bonus) is the Conn Smyth!!!

Amazing answer @uncleben, I really appreciate the work!

I would be more than happy to pay a performance bonus for the Conn Smythe btw

Getting SDA back and the addition of Niemela soon will be a nice boost for the Marlies.

Niemela probably won't be that big of a boost. The defense and goaltending are doing fine. We just can't score for crap and our defense is not the reason for it.

We are icing at least 3 or 4 ECHL caliber forwards up front right now. It is not really Moore's fault, because he doesn't have anyone better to use right now, but the fact of the matter remains that until we get more out of Tverberg/Ovchinnikov/etc. or we get guys like Hirvonen/Voit/Kressler/etc. to come in and provide additional support, we probably will not have much success.

SDA definitely helps in that regard.

SDA will be a big boost, especially PP.

Down 3-0... But the shots are way up at least.

For me, the problem is the forward depth. Solow, Centazzo, Chyzowski, and Badini just cannot be in our lineup come playoffs. Ovchinnikov and Tverberg have struggled too, but since they are actual prospects, they should have as much runway as possible. But those 6 guys, which pretty much comprise our bottom 6 right now, have less than 10 points between them in something like 70+ man games and it is not like they are providing defensive value like a Slaggert to somewhat make up for it (Slaggert, too, probably should not be in the playoff lineup but he is a passable depth guy right now).

We have a lot of injuries so it will get better. Ellis, Clifford, and Zohorna will be able to replace those three at the very least. Hirvonen and a few others in the CHL may be able to step in as well.

I know it's only been one period but I really liked what I saw from Niemela. Didn't seem out of place at all or even looked like it was his first AHL game.

Great skater. Made calm and smart plays. He is a bit small but didn't seem to matter

did you see what happened with johnstone at the end of the period to earn him the unsportsmanlike penalty?

niemela has been a lot more aggressive physically than i expected

edit: also had a good chance to score

So pumped up to have Niemela finally in the Marlie/Leaf fold.

Behind Knies, he is my #2 anticipated prospect, and the one I was most worried to lose (behind Knies of course, who every talking head made sound like a MANDATORY piece for Toronto to give up for anything) during the TDL.

He was pretty physical at the WJCs. He doesn't seem to shy away from anything from what I've seen. Despite being 5'11 with a sleight build, I thought he was pretty solid on his feet and got the better of some bigger players a lot of the time.
