No idea who that is but I'll take your word for it.
Haha its pretty obscure. Short version is he was a brazillian con man who pretended he was a professional footballer, would sign with a club and work out with them until they wanted him to start practice, where he would "get injured" and miss the season. Make friends in the leagues who help him get to a new team for a new contract, rinse repeat

Great scam.

I need to learn more about this guy and his ways…

Marlies on their way to losing 6 in a row. Moore's lack of quality coaching is really showing up in this stretch. The offense and Woll were carrying him this season, and now when Woll doesn't look elite, and offense is struggling, the light is shining on Moore. As much as you want blame injuries, using Clifford in a top 9 role most of the year has nothing to do with injuries.
If they bow out early in the playoffs, Moore shouldn't be back.

5 goals in six games.... 15 shots on goal so far tonight. I wouldn't blame that on coaching. Not that I'm a fan of Moore's at all.. but really the guys just aren't getting anything done on the ice. Then again, the lineup is missing 5 of the top 8 forwards in scoring. SDA, Blandisi to injury, McMann on the Leafs, and Gaudette and Anderson to trades. That's too much firepower lost. Lose 3-1 Without some offense from Tverberg, Ovchinnikov, maybe Hirvonen and McMann back... this team isn't going anywhere.

I was worried they would fall off a cliff after those trades without any sort of additition and yeah, looks like it's heading that way. Their depth took a massive massive hit. But it's about development, so I hope it helps out a few of the depth players get a lot of minutes down the stretch.

I do hope they play the new players a lot. It's slightly possible Minten and Voit joins them as well depending how their CHL playoffs go.

Two interesting Junior playoffs to follow. Barring a bizarre meltdown both teams should walk through their first round. Really only Ottawa has real separation from Sarnia and they won't meet until the final so Voit probably has a lot of Junior hockey to go. Seattle is a juggernaut in the dub with Lambert and Guenther missing 40 games and they still had 54 wins. I can see Kamloops going 2 rounds easily though.

If he's anything like Keefe he'd run 10/8 lol.

I’m not sure who they are going to play.

Hollowell will be injured for most of it. Mete probably will be as well.

Pietroniro and Hellickson should not even be considered. Miller is easily 9th. The rest will depend on the opponent and need.

Time to see what Pietroniro's got in his locker :yo:

Knowing Dubas the Boston pick is being dealt for a pair of mid 2nd rounders. One of those 2nd rounders will subsequently be dealt for a pair of 3rds.

This is the way.
Wouldn't surprise me because this draft is deep.
I could see him trading it for 2 second rounders.

Especially when they don't think the person they like in the second round will be gone. Leafs seem to go off the board a bit sometimes but they also are pretty good at hitting later picks.

Actually their 1st rounders have been mostly very good picks for years now too.

There is also functionally no real difference between picking 28 and, let's say, 35-40 anyways. Stock up.

Seems like TOR should still end up pretty involved in the NCAA/CHL FA market, even if it's just to replace a lot of the Marlies/Growlers depth on AHL deals. Not a ton of the AHL contracts have been overly impressive to the point of earning another shot.

Players coming back (my guess)
-Marshall Rifai (possible ELC)
-Noel Hoefenmayer (if he gets an ELC - he's cooled off though, so I think it's possible he goes elsewhere)
-Joe Blandisi (if he wants it)
-Marc Johnstone (AHL deal, bottom 6 AHLer)
-Tommy Miller (AHL deal again, solid AHL depth)
-Brett Budgell (youngest and most productive first year Growler on AHL deal)
-Zach O'Brien (Growlers legend)

50/50:
-Keenan Suthers (only if they're trying for another Douglas/Brazeau and think he has more)
-Graham Slaggert (AHL depth)
-Zach Solow (AHL depth, productive Growler)

Players who leave:
-Ryan Chyzowski (fringe AHLer)
-Matteo Pietroniro (depth AHLer, they'll pivot to younger players)
-Matt Hellickson (see Pietroniro)
-Orrin Centazzo (aims for clearer AHL opportunity or Europe)
-Pavel Gogolev (same as Centazzo)
-Brandon Kruse, Nolan Walker, and Jack Badini (not that young, not that impressive in the ECHL)
-Brennan Kapcheck and Michael Joyaux (maybe 50/50 - good Growlers D, but could easily seek a different opportunity)

Tychonick is the only addition so far and is likely a Pietroniro/Hellickson level replacement on the depth chart, but with more upside

I didn't realize how much he's "cooled off" I mean... wow... Tremendous start to the year, was a 26 points after 27 games. Since then, it's been 9 points in 33 games, and four points in the last 25 games. I get that the team has been firing blanks in the last six games, but his offense dried up a long time ago. His offense was basically what he brought to the table.

The numbers agree, but its all circumstantial and entirely dependent on who is left. I think the Leafs would have picked in the 1st round last year if Öhgren was still available. Quality > quantity, but if you have 15 guys ranked essentially the same at your spot, there's really no reason not to move back 15 spots.

Yea, it definitely seems increasingly likely that he just goes elsewhere. I'm sure Niemela/Hollowell would take a lot of his opportunity away as well

Pietroniro may be a guy who gets special treatment because of the Steel connection, but he shouldn't be an AHLer next year. Tychonick is probably already replacing Hellickson. Hoefenmayer is 50/50 only because his main value is PP and we have legit NHL prospects who need those opportunities.

The toughest thing is that we have had guys who looked like trash ar the AHL level and then did better (McMann, Hoefenmayer)... so who isn't to say that a guy like Chyzowski, Gogolev, or Centazzo isn't the same? I guess it depends on practice and what they project to become.

Personally, though, I have no issue dropping most of them at this point. Rifai is the only one who has consistently looked promising. Budgell is still young so he has that going for him. Blandisi is a solid top 9 vet so he would be a good guy to have in the rotation with the young guys. Miller, Slaggert, and Johnstone are probably fine to keep as depth guys so there is some continuity in the lower spots. And then guys like OBrien for the Growlers. The rest can probably be rotated out without any kind of regret. At the same time, the NCAA and CHL market is pretty weak this year so it is not like there is a long list of quality external replacements for a lot of these guys either. So maybe it depends on how many of those guys end up coming here too. Tychonick was a good start but he is likely going to spend a fair bit of time in the ECHL at first.
