Really missing McMann huge loss there. Holmberg too
They could have traded a weaker forward like Ovi or Ellis who isn't a difference maker. Or a defenseman, like Kral or Mete (Who doesn't appear to be returning) because like the Leafs they're D heavy. I think if you're going to gut a calder threat, at least give them back some firepower some how. Look around. They KO'ed the Marlies to prop up the Leafs. But, I was kind of looking forward to both having an exciting post-season.I mean that is a pretty easy decision. If you have to gut your farm team of org depth guys to load up your NHL team for a run at the cup...well that is just the way it goes.
It makes you wonder if they were considering the Marlies at all with their deadline moves. At the time the Marlies were in first place and it was by a landslide. But, since the deadline they've been in free fall.
When the Leafs were agreeing which contract to send back they really should have been more selective. They lost Anderson, Gaudette and Abramov up front and never properly replaced them. The team has been running ECHL level forwards since they left. When trying to improve the Leafs, they didn't fix the holes they made on the Marlies. So, they kind of butchered their #1 seed farm team to stack the Leafs for their run.
It looks like the Marlies are now going to be a first round out instead of a calder cup threat.
1) Agreed with the other posters: happy to knee-cap the Marlies' Calder Cup chances if that is what is needed to get deadline deals done. They could have traded a weaker forward like Ovi or Ellis who isn't a difference maker. This is a one and done tournament like Basketball?Knies and the Golden Gophers kick off the Frozen 4 at 5pm EST today. For those with the TSN app, I’m pretty sure the game will be available there.
Yeah. This is a one and done tournament like Basketball?
Thanks.Yeah.
If Minny losses, Knies can sign as soon as tomorrow. If Minny wins, championship game is on Saturday. This is a one and done tournament like Basketball?
Thanks, I didn't realize that.If Minny losses, Knies can sign as soon as tomorrow. If Minny wins, championship game is on Saturday.
I think it's better for his development to win the Frozen Four vs playing 1 extra game for the Leafs. Thanks, I didn't realize that.
So he's a Leaf Sunday, worse case.
Leafs likely had to move out players under contract to make room for the guys we brought in. Plus leave a spot for Knies. Otherwise we would be trading roster players and prospects that have higher potential and guys we'll need going forward like Hirvonen, Niemela, Voit etc.It makes you wonder if they were considering the Marlies at all with their deadline moves. Well, that’s not unfair I don’t think. The loss of Gaudette and Anderson at that level is a pretty big hit; pretty much a second line *poof*, but…..big team’s needs first has to be the ultimate goal, right? It makes you wonder if they were considering the Marlies at all with their deadline moves. Don't forget that Hildeby is with the organization now too. I'm not sure where Hirvonen's team is at with playoffs right now but they could possibly be adding him soon too. Abruzzese should be back in the fold now with O'Rielly and Acciari back with the buds.Well, that’s not unfair I don’t think. I’d say Zohorma is an upgrade on Abramov. It’s not unreasonable to expect Topi to provide a significant boost to the backend. But overall depth took a good hit; competitively. Big test for the coach and who’s there, and a big challenge for some incoming players to assimilate quickly.
Rough for their chances if Woll is with the big team the rest of the way, too, given this years performance.
Should be interesting to watch.
Yeah, you’re right; those were some of the guys I meant when I mentioned hope that guys assimilate quickly. Could be an energizing infusion of youth.Don't forget that Hildeby is with the organization now too. Does Knies have the possibility to join the Marlies if he signs? Obviously I hope hes with the Leafs for a long full run but I wonder if hes eligible to play for the Leafs in the playoffs, is he also eligible for the Calder Cup?Yeah, you’re right; those were some of the guys I meant when I mentioned hope that guys assimilate quickly. Voit too, eventually.
IIRC No he can't. He would need to sign an ATO to go to the marlies. Next year he will be able to though.Does Knies have the possibility to join the Marlies if he signs? Thanks! That's what I thought but I couldnt remember. Should have guessed since Abruzzese didn't play in the playoffs for the Marlies last season either.IIRC No he can't. He would need to sign an ATO to go to the marlies. Next year he will be able to though.
