Knies looked good honestly, not sure how he didn't get a point in an 8-2 game

9-2. Final.

He is a complimentary guy, not a play maker… so he doesn’t carry the puck at least with Cooley playing with him most of the time. If Cooley doesn’t pass it to him, he’s not get points. He spent a lot of time providing good screens, but didn’t get points doing it. Had a few opportunities, but just didn’t score. I’m not sure he’ll be a contributor right away for us, but will be in time.

From what I saw Knies best chance came in the 2nd period on the PK. Used his speed to get a partial breakaway but the defender poked the poke away when he was getting ready to shoot.

Mietinnen is looking like a non contract guy at this point. Give him another year, maybe he explodes (unlikely, but you never know) and gets a contract. I'm not sure he's even an AHL contract guy right now.

Koster is better but still debatable if he's worth a contract, probably in everyone's best interest for him to go back another year.
In Miettinen’s favor is that he’s a shooter, unlike most of the prospects in his size and age range. Prolly best to wait it out though, especially given Tverberg already signed.

Koster is sneaky good, solid skill profile. I’d think the debate for him is where is most likely to develop best next year. LD isn’t stacked in the system, he’d probable have a fair chance to play with the Marlies next year.

Props to @Morgs for his crystal ball prediction.

Lmao, better go buy a lottery ticket today

SCSU doesn't have the talent that Minnesota has but they'll be a tough out for Minny. They play a solid balanced game where they really trust and roll all four lines and defenseman. Should be a great game and although Minny is the easy bet, an upset wouldn't be crazy surprising.

Doubt Veeti leaves St CLoud after this year. He took a very abnormal path to the NCAA via the Finnish Jr.A system. School is likely very important to him and his family. I think it also works well for us as an organization. I think it might be best to get another year's worth of tape on Veeti to see if he is worth an ELC. I feel like I have always been a bit more bullish on Veeti then some posters in this thread. I tend to gravitate towards prospects with one or multiple NHL skills as opposed to players with higher projectability, but less of an eye popping skillset. I have always been of the belief that we should be drafting boom or bust type players, and signing depth and role players. Veeti just kind of fit that narrative to a tee given where he was selected. This kid has an NHL release already. It is a very heavy shot, and he can get it off in a hurry and in multiple different ways.

From what I have gathered over Veeti's 3 year career at SCSU, thy don't run traditional a top-6/bottom-6. They tend to roll all 4 lines. It's potentially why we have not seen any progression in his numbers year over year. It may not be as big of a concern as we think.

And like @Magic Man said earlier, we've given shittier players deals over the years out of the NCAA. I hope, and slightly expect Veeti to sign with us, but I do expect him to go back to SCSU for his final season

Marlies depth chart has a fair number of guys unless we are not bringing multiple guys back.

Koster is likely 1LD for Minnesota next year. He is not that for the Marlies. Unless you are worried about him not signing next year for some reason, then there is no real reason to rush it. Same with Miettinen...

Contracts expiring that figure not to be back next year AND/OR trade candidates to open up contract spots

Simmonds
Kerfoot
Holl
Murray
ZAR (I'd do it cheap but feel he might do better elsewhere)
Gustafsson
Muzzin (trade candidate to Arizona after bonus is paid)
Dahlstrom
Ellis (too meh)
Zohorna
Kallgren

The few St Cloud games that I've caught on TV this year, he's looked pretty good. Reads plays well. I also wouldn't get too caught up in looking at his overall production rates
