I was actually thinking about Gibson - even though he's a Finn. Totally forgot about Owuya.Christopher Gibson
Joey Anderson with 5pts in his last 5 games with Chicago. I always thought he looked good and deserved a real chance - he never really got one. Oh well
What does Timmins have to do with Anderson? He got chances, just didn't work here.
Timmins looks good with us.
I remember there was a small melt down with Barabanov producing in San Jose too.
I think the flat cap flooded the market with players on this price bracket, preventing a lot of opportunity. My thoughts have changed on this.
Why not overbake prospects when UFAs like Acciari sign for $1.25.
I would rather be smart shoppers on the UFA free agent market then promote a Steeves type.
What does Timmins have to do with Anderson?
And I thought Anderson looked fairly good in his limited minutes and role as a Leaf, but I guess others disagreed. I'd loved to have kept him over ZAR
Barabanov coulda been a nice fit, but came the year of the abbreviated camp and couldn’t elbow his way in.He got chances, just didn't work here.

So this is dubas experimenting again. Not a fan at all, but if they are playing Niemala and Tverberg, I can live with it.
Where I start hating 11-7 is when Kerfoot and Holl are always in the lineup. Put them in the Marlies lineup and I'm better with it as well....maybe.....![]()

More so talking about replacing guys like Simmonds, Ashton-Reese for example. I’d love to keep Accari for cheap. But the reality is at some point you have to graduate guys and retool. Otherwise you lose them to waivers, some of our AHL guys may not be waiver exempt next season. So that will play a role in who makes the roster.
I think with Woll's waiver situation and team friendly contract, it's gonna make sense to graduate him to back up and move on from a goalie at the NHL level, likely Murray.
That being said, if goaltending were to suck in round 1, they could go extreme and do something like chase Saros...
1st
Robertson
Rights to Samsonov / Murray
BTW Novosibirsk is a city of 1.5 million with a virtually identical climate to Winnipeg's.
Iirc, waiver eligible guys under control are Woll, McMann, Clifford and most of the rfa gang: SDA, Kral, Mete, Hollowell.More so talking about replacing guys like Simmonds, Ashton-Reese for example. Kinda crazy it happened so early.Marlies have clinched a playoff spot
This is kinda the problem.. depending on how you look at it.I think guys like andersen steeves mcmann etc do well in the AHL because they are getting good minutes of ice time and play on special teams etc.
When they get called up it’s usually for the fourth line with 7/8 minutes a night and that’s not enough ice time for them to succeed.
Some of those guys are better than what they can show in limited ice time. The problem is they aren’t better than the players above them.
I get why people see McMann and think this guy needs an offensive opportunity - 21 Goals in 30 games this year after 24 in 61 last year. This is kinda the problem.. depending on how you look at it.
There could be long term good players but they cannot receive the opportunity in similar roles once up with the big club
If a team is good enough to withstand young guys getting extended looks (which i think this team is) in similar roles to where they are succeeding in the ahl it could be beneficial to that graduation and internal process.
I mean, this top line carries bunting and the body of kerfoot and still does well.. i see no reason why a 2nd line cant carry steeves or mcmann for a longer look..
Or you see if you have a bunting replacement... before it is needed. All i am sayingI get why people see McMann and think this guy needs an offensive opportunity - 21 Goals in 30 games this year after 24 in 61 last year.
But there's some real big caveats to that production:
- He's 26, soon to be 27
- No track record of offensive production
- Only 19 assists over the last 2 seasons to go with those 45 goals
To me this is a guy who's scoring at the AHL level because of his physical tools (size/skating) while being at his physical peak at 26. Not enough talent there to create and play with offensive players. He's competing with ZAR for a spot in the lineup as a 4th line energy guy. Even comparing him to ZAR, who's only 2 years older - he's a guy known for being a black hole offensively but his college production blows McMann out of the water (while also being younger) and you cant really compare their AHL production as ZAR graduated to a full time NHLer at the same age McMann started his pro career. The one same age AHL season they have is 18/19 for ZAR 6G, 9pts in 11GP before graduating to the NHL; 20/21 for McMann 2G, 4pts in 21GP, the rest in the ECHL)
I dont want to be too negative about McMann, he's made huge strides and maybe the offense will translate for him better than I think but projecting anything more than a 4th line energy guy who can chip in 10-12 goals a year seems overly optimistic.
