Pretty sure moving up to get Biggs cost us Rackell and goalie John Gibson as the Ducks draft choices.

O-U-C-H......the price of testosterone
If I remember correctly I think a lot of people on these boards liked Puempel, Jansen and Jurco in that late 1st/early 2nd range for our picks. I'm just more surprised Burke didn't go for Jenner imo instead of trading up for Biggs.

Been reading a little more on Tverberg, sounds like his potential could be in the mold of a Connor Brown player?
Connor Brown wishes he was toyberg.

Toyberg is faster, hits harder, and has a slightly above average shot. He has better transition numbers. Defensively, toyberg has more potential if the leafs are willing to develop him. Brown’s defensive metrics from way back were actually below average and his offense is meh. Brown is lucky he has gotten opportunities in ottawa. Brown was not that great of an F1 even though I have a fake version of his erie otters jersey.

Let's go Toyberg!

With all due respect, I think it is the opposite. If you told me Ryan would develop to become as impactful as Connor Brown I would be overjoyed. Stylistically they do not resemble each other at all IMO. Ryan is more of a north south player with strong speed and separation, plays physical, and has a touch of skill. He is more akin to Bobby McMann from what I've seen.

I've always loved tracking Ryan as a prospect. Tremendous value in the 7th round. Stylistically he is the type of prospect we need in our system. High compete level, willingness to play in the dirty areas of the ice, and someone who can stretch the ice. I am very interested to see how he develops with the Marlies.

Congrats Ryan! Well deserved ELC

I guess because this is a future ELC this still leaves a spot for Matthew Knies once his season is over? I believe we have 1 SPC slot still available??

Yup contract starts next season so I believe that means he requires a Marlies contract this year to play for the baby buds.
I agree with everything you said, I’m totally pumped Tverberg was signed. Really pulling for him. Hope he develops into an impactful depth piece. His style is what I want more of on the Leafs.

The funny thing about bringing up who Anaheim drafted in 2011 at 30th and 39th from that Biggs' draft pick trade is that Burke probably would've ended up drafting Biggs at 25th, Percy 30th and another bust at 39th.

Do you know the offensively meh Connor Brown won an OHL scoring title?
He scored a Erie franchise record at the time 128 points in 68 games.

I also know that he did that a d+2 on a stacked erie team with burakovsky, connor mcjesus, dane fox. All toyberg has is matthew wood, but they don’t even play on the same line only same pp.

At the same age Tverbeg is now Brown scored 61pts as an AHL rookie, leading the Marlies in scoring by 13 points.

I like Tverberg, but a Connor Brown level player would be an excellent outcome for him.

I literally love this time of year.
Edit to add: not too many guys terminate KHL contracts do they?
Seems a ballsy move for mini-Ovi.
What would that mean for him, his future?
Get outta Russia as a prime motivation? I can’t envision him being welcomed back to the league ever?
I'm pretty sure the deal was just one-year, so it would expire April 31st and this termination just fast tracks has ability to come over.

He already has his ELC so all sides probably understood this would be the case and there is no ill will involved.

We might see Akhtyamov do the same thing shortly. If not, he's definitely signing after April 31st

no, no....last February he signed a 3 year contract with the Leafs.
Leafs agreed to have him play in KHL this season for more ice time and development.
He played the whole season with Sibir......in fact played 68 regular season games as a 20 year old. Then played 3 of their 5 playoff games and their series finished March 10. Standard contracts in KHL run to end of April but obviously when Leafs loaned him there, there was an understanding that he could return to play with Marlies when Sibir season was over. It will be interesting to see how much he has matured by playing against men since his 7 Marlie games last year.

this is fantastic news. I still think this kid has the raw skill that is suitable for todays NHL. He is still a long shot and very much a long term project, but I love the skillset. You cannot teach his level of speed. I think this time around he will stay in Toronto for the long haul. Hopefully at least. It would be really nice to have our hands on his development throughout the remainder of the year and into the summer with a tailored offseason program.

excited to see him with the Marlies. I haven't been watching any Marlies games this season, but I do follow them on social platforms and see that they are doing quite well. I also have seen their lineup cards of late and noticed they as well are doing 7D +11F alot as well. Not sure if that is because we lost Joey Anderson, Dryden Hunt, and a handful of others or if they have a similar D log jam as the one we have with the big boys. But if it is because we lack AHL forwards it could be a good thing for the incoming Tverberg and Ovi. Think Ovi struggled to cement himself as a regular last season if I remember correctly. He was playing lower in the lineup whenever he did check in
