That’s UFA Jaxon Nelson isn’t it? Hmmmm…..
Knies plays at 8PM EST tonight. Tverberg seasons likely over. I wonder if he makes the jump next year?

I hope so, I’d love to get some eyes on him.
Sounds like an intriguing guy.

Villeneuve with three points tonight
Starting to get comfortable
Watched him here in saint john and when he gets comfortable he is not flashy but consistently gets the job done
This kid is going to surprise in another year.
That’s three primary assists.
Did you watch the game? How’d he look?
He’s pretty close to .5ppg, I think.

So much this. Jaxon is definitely a player that I hope Dubas was looking at when he was taking in some of Minnesota's games a couple of weeks ago.

Really interesting prospect, with size to spare, and a Centre? Chemistry with Knies as well? Very intriguing indeed......

Size is really all he has unfortunately.

Skating needs a fair bit of work. He is a net-front guy on a really strong Minnesota PP and he still struggles to put up meaningful production.

So there will be a lot of emphasis on him working out as more of a defensive specialist, and I don't think he really has any standout qualities there either.

Marlies/Growlers need new depth guys for next year. He may have an outside shot as a rotation guy next year, but most likely ends up on the Growlers. For an AHL contract, he will be in the mix. If another team wants to beat that, let them.

Thanks for the input on Nelson.

What’s our take on Tverberg coming out this year?
Koster?
Miettinen?
Not as impact Leafs, but continuing their development with the Marlies as opposed to the NCAA.
Edit to add:
And likelihood of ELC’s for Marlies like Rifai and Hoefenmeyer?

Has anyone been watching Moldenhauer play this season? The numbers are pretty good but I can’t find much tape on him. How does he look? Is he driving the offence on his line? Scoring highlights reel goals?

Should Knies' team make it past the final 16 of the NCAA tournament, it looks like it would be impossible for him to get 9 NHL games to burn off a contract year like Abruzzese did last spring.

I'm pretty sure 9 game tryouts are only for junior aged players. Knies is too old. If he signs for this year I think it burns a year regardless even if he doesn't play a game. Playing a game would burn a year for sure.

Koster is one to watch. He needs more development so it'll be curious if the Leafs are fine with him heading back for another season or if they try and slid him toward the AHL.

Similar situation with Miettinen whose also developed steadily since his draft, like Koster. Probably not quite NHL ready either but may be pushed to the Marlies if they can sign him

2 goal game for McMann so far, 17 goals in his last 17 AHL games. Maybe be controversial, but I think he's a better player right now than Knies and should be strongly considered for our playoff lineup
Don’t agree with that but not really possible to get a definite answer until we see them both in the show. McMann does have 6 years on Knies as well so he should be more developed.

I would definitely prefer McMann over either Steeves/Holmberg though.

Yeah it's not a knock on Knies since he's so much younger, but I just think McMann's experience against men and skating put him a bit ahead today. It would be nice if there was a way to fit them both on the team, but we'll see what they end up doing

All 3 should probably go back for their senior years, but should end up getting ELC's after that.

No idea about Rifai and Hoefenmayer. We will have contract spots for them, but we also have a lot of spots to fill so if they can't fill a specific role on our depth chart, they may not get a contract. If Timmins is filling in for Holl, then we are losing pretty much the entirety of our 7-10 spots to UFA next year (Timmins in for Holl, Gustafsson, Schenn, Benn).

I can see Rifai getting one. I don't see Hoefenmayer getting one unless we are not bringing Mete or Hollowell back. We don't really need T.J. Brennan 2.0 when you need to find PP time for Villeneuve, Niemela, etc. Then the Leafs add a defensive RD. Maybe a veteran like a better version of Benn... Or a longer shot being going after Pulli, Haman Aktell, or Livingstone in Euro/NCAA Free Agency.

Rielly - Liljegren
McCabe - Brodie
Giordano - Timmins
Schenn (placeholder but could work as a #7 next year if he is cheap)

Kral - UFA RD
Kokkonen - Niemela
Rifai - Villeneuve
Mete - Hollowell
Miller (he should get another AHL deal; Hellickson, Pietroniro, etc. should all be replaced)

He looked great, has good foot speed for a big guy, looked defensively responsible, good on face offs, not sure why Calgary didn't want him, Dryden Hunt was a bit of dud.

He is not physical. No go for Sutter.

Did Knies ever get credit for the goal that banked off the glass? He definitely tipped it.
