and $8 mil in salary... It's a 10 team NTC... so it shouldn't be too prohibitive. We've helped revive his game, and brand some, you'd think he'd be accommodating if necessary.

Here's hoping.

Bridging Samsonov for like 2 years around 3.75-4M and then we can see if Woll is ready after.

I thought his Salary was 6 million according to capfriendly. Is there a 2 million signing bonus he gets?

Woll is doing exactly what we hope for every goaltending prospect. The waivers exemption expires after this season. He's on the NHL roster next season permanently and getting a significant number of starts. IMO Matt Murray is a viable buyout contract. The cap cost of buying him out is a minor cap hit of $687K for 23/24 and a larger $2M cap hit in 24/25. Maybe another organization can buy him out for a small price.
I don't think the buyout is viable since it is most expensive in the crunch year where potential Matthews/Nylander extensions kick in while still having the final year of Tavares. I don't think a floating $2M against the cap would be good. If he truly needs a mid round pick attached to get rid of him, take that option instead. Attach one of those Chicago 5ths they added in the McCabe deal.

It shouldn't need a 1st as the doomsdayers are spouting to apply their anti-Dubas narratives.

I can’t recall…..but did he waive his NTC for TO?
And if so, does it still exist?

He didn't waive his NTC for Toronto. Ottawa had a deal with Buffalo in advance, and Buffalo was on the NTC, and he declined. Toronto wasn't on the 10 team NT list.

I believe the player would have to submit a 10 player list, upon request by management, with a limited time to respond. I think Patrik Berglund is an example of a guy who didn't respond on time.... and was just shipped out.

I'm still undecided on what to do with the goaltending, I think it heavily depends on what happens the rest of the way. If we were to project today, I think most of us would agree that Woll comes up and they decide on the better of Murray and Samsonov to run with him. But, before I commit to Samsonov I want to see him move Murray out of his way while he's healthy. If Murray wins the Leafs a round in the playoffs, I think they run him and move Samsonov even with his health issues, if Samsonov is who wins, then Murray will be the one to go.

Looking at Murray's contract, it will be hard to move that contract with the increased money next season and no signing bonus if he doesn't heat up to finish the year.

Hildeby with a 42 save shutout master piece in the regular season finale. His 3rd shutout of the season. 22 saves came in the 3rd.
His final regular seasons stats
GP: 21
GAA: 2.26
SV% .918
SO: 3

Very impressive first season. After a slow start, and aside from a blip near the end of the season, he was terrific. He's only 21 too.
It's going to be interesting who starts in the playoffs.

San Jose and Chicago as rebuilding teams may have interest

Flyers might too.

I doubt those teams will give up picks for a goaltender, there better off just grabbing a UFA or get somebody to pay them to take on a goaltender with a bad contract

I think you're looking for average to good teams with poor goaltending looking for a cheap upgrade

So LA, Edmonton, Buffalo etc
Actually it sounds like I'm describing the Sen's 😂

Thanks I was looking at the whole team screen. Should have went into the individual player. That’s a lot of money for a team to take on.
It's actually 6 mil because Ottawa retained 25% of the contract.

I think that unless Murray ends the season strong; the Leafs will have to move a piece to get rid of Murray. Maybe the 3rd they got from NYI, or trade down the BOS 1st. I just don't see how any team would want to pick up an oft-injured goalie with a 4 mil cap hit and 6 mil base salary.

It's pretty obvious why: he's a good goalie and the acquisition price will be low.

Sure he's injured a lot, but nobody would be acquiring him to be a #1 goalie. He's clearly a 1A/1B guy at this stage in his career, and more and more teams are trying to get their #1 goalies to not play 50-60 games a season to keep them fresh for playoffs. Any playoff team with cap space that wants/needs a short term fit could work. Or really any non-playoff team could basically get him for dirt cheap, and bet they can flip him at the deadline for more assets. The idea we'd have to pay a 1st (or similar) to rid his salary is insanity. We paid ~15 spots to get rid of Mrazek for 2 years (maybe a late 3rd in value?). We got a 3rd for taking Murray's contract.... last year. He shouldn't even cost that much to get rid of now.

A buy out of Murray would also be possible. Would not cost us much next year, as I understand it, but would be a $2 million cap hit the following year when we have to bump up the salaries of 34 and 88 - unless one of them gets moved this off-season if they don't agree to extensions.

The same reason Chicago picked up Mrazek last offseason. Bottom feeders need bodies to play as well as reach the cap floor.

Murray also has more value than Mrazek. Mrazek had two years left on his contract, and had both been injured and player poorly the previous year.

Murray has one year left, has had injury issues, but has generally played well both of the last two seasons.

Yep I think Murray has been solid this year.

Wouldn’t be hard to move him at all, maybe if he takes over down the stretch we don’t move him at all.

More fuel for the Knies boffo upbeat hype up party.

Physically he's mature enough to hold his own .. you'd be dumb to not give him the opportunity to make an impact.

The question lingering is that can his game be reliable enough when it counts? That is can he be responsibly enough defensively while making a positive impact at the other of the ice.

So we go with a guy who can't stay fit to save himself and a kid with one really good season under his belt

I'd fire any GM who came up with that idea
In a cap world this is the play. Woll is making league minimum. Murray makes 4.6M, Samsonov will make between 3-4M. Save your cap space and give Woll a spot instead of losing him on waivers. At this point he's as much of a gamble as Murray. Worst case scenario you make a trade for Vejmelka midway through next season.
