I don't think it was solely Hunder's Drafting, though it didn't help, but the development that is so much improved. Heck we are taking undrafted players and developing them into players now with pretty good results and regularity. Even a player every couple of years of that ilk is very much above the average NHL team.

Definitely agree that our development programs are improved. I'd simply stress that my earlier comment dealt with our success/lack thereof pre Hunter. Naz and Rielly were really good picks, but so many wasted opportunities to grab better than what we did.

I wonder why Knies changed his mind over the last few days.
Probably sees Abruzzeze sitting in the press box over a slug like Clifford or getting 4 minutes a night and thinks why bother?

I can imagine a guy like him enjoying college life as well. Student athletes that are future millionaires I'm sure get a lotta "girls gone wild" thrown their way

It makes so little sense for Knies to want to go somewhere else. Leafs have top facilities and a relatively weak set of wingers. He will have the opportunity to play with Matthews/Tavares.

He would also be missing out on NHL pay for 3 years or so if he wanted to hold out.

I see zero reasons for him to not sign with the Leafs. I think it's just our insecurities

This take is confusing to me. They have 102 points total from their 2 top-6 LW, and Engvall has 27 points on LW for line 3.

Vaxjo is swept and Holmberg's impressive SHL career is done in terms of progression. Probably goes to the Marlies now. I think Moore should consider him down the stretch and maybe playoffs if they make it. Wouldn't mind getting him a couple NHL games if we are locked in a seed down the stretch.

Would be really fun to see Hirvonen, Niemela, Kokkonen and Holmberg make the jump. The Marlies really could use it.

Imo Mikheyev is gone this summer as a cap casualty, potentially Kerfoot as well
I think it’s one or the other. I think they flip Kerfoot after his bonus as he’ll be an attractive asset being paid league minimum for the season, they then give cobra kerfs aav. His desire to leave was based on opportunity, if he’s getting that and the bag here I think he stays

Hoping to add Ohgren at the draft. Would fit so well with the current core and I think he has some of the highest upside in the draft. He has drifted all over the place in people's rankings. As high as 12 but as low as 29.

Nah, I think Miky is resigned and Kerfoot is the cap casualty tbh. Miky is too important for the PK as well as a dual offensive speed threat and he only wanted to leave due to opportunity but now he's getting 2nd line minutes regularly as well as 2nd PP and top PK minutes.

We won't know if he truly means it until his team is eliminated. Not to mention - most people would rather be getting an NHL salary and having a year of their ELC burned, press box or not.
My only concern is will someone with his physical maturity get stunted and pick up bad habits playing against small, less talented athletes?

I think you really underestimate what a pro athlete can pull over a college athlete. Not sure that's at all at play.

Right now it's development VS opportunity for next season. This season is pretty much a wash regardless if he signs or not... its not like he'll be playing after the Frozen Four. Abruzzese is training in world class facilities and with world class players/coaches even if he isn't playing 20 minutes a night.

Additionally he can sign his ELC at anytime, just because he doesn’t sign it now doesn’t mean he won’t change his mind in the summer. I know Universities rather know now so that they can allocate scholarship money accordingly but that’s not Knies’ problem.

Rebuilding year for Minny I believe - not much F4 chance. And he's not finishing his degree off next year in any event....

Not really sure there is a reason to go back now.
