We need top 4 RD who can factor in as Leafs depth.

Hollowell, Villeneuve, Joyaux, Miller, and Kapcheck. We did not need a fringe AHLer.

You still need depth, especially at the AHL, ECHL level and we have the contract spots. No problem with them choosing to develop one of their picks.

We have depth, and we still need to sign another 2 RD for the AHL top 4 and probably a 3rd for the NHL to be the #7. All Rindell is going to do is either take minutes away from Villeneuve, who is a much better prospect, or waste a contract spot to do something that Joyaux will be able to do on an AHL contract.

I would be less concerned with a better coach. We have a coach who still puts Kivihalme on the top pairing.

As for a lot of contract spots, it is getting pretty tight. We were already looking at a minimum of 45 or 46 to sufficiently fill spots in the NHL and AHL when you consider we will have spots taken up by some guys playing in Europe next year but will still count against the 50 (Ovchinnikov and Amirov, plus Kokkonen potentially too).

Do you work for the leafs? Or are you a pro scout? I don’t get why this is such a big deal. It’s an entry level deal, clearly they feel like they can develop him. Why would we have any issue with that? We should trust management.

Niemela isn’t coming over until the end of next season, it’s pretty clear, it’s why he has the clause in his contract and signed an extension there. He rather play in Finland as opposed to the Marlies. We lose nothing by adding Him. I’m sure there are moves coming this off-season that will address the depth RHD

It is a decision-making and resource management concern.

In the grand scheme of things, probably not a big deal. But if they keep going after guys like Rindell because they think he is "good", then we make this mistake over and over again. We are spending resources (development time, draft picks, contract spots, etc.) that can go towards better prospects and players that can help the Leafs win both now and in the future...

And in the middle of a window, we even need to maximize those resources as much as possible.

I think we need to give it a couple of years to see how this turns out.

Kokkonen and Ovchinnikov will be on the Marlies

Both had contracts extending into next year with their respective teams in Europe. Usually the Leafs let those guys honour those agreements (assuming they don't make the NHL).

There is no room for Ovchinnikov anyways. He is barely getting any minutes as it stands and I don't think it gets any easier for him than it does right now. He would need a major jump in development over the summer to the point where he would be able to take a top 9 role with tougher competition for the spot... Or if we still had a Keefe with the defensive development 4th line, we could put him there too. But Moore chooses to use a grinder 4th line, and Ovchinnikov would suck there.

Would be nice for Kokkonen to stick around.

We have no idea how he's going to to turn out. Engvall 7th Round Pick took time to develop, Andreas Johnsson, hell they even managed to make Holl an NHL player for some years. There isn't a can't miss prospect out there (that's a guarantee we could sign) that's a free wallet that is going to be much better than Rindall right now.

Again I'm more inclined to trust our scouting staff and development team who clearly see that they can help him improve and potentially contribute to the leafs

Voit up to 24 goals and 75 points. Sarnia's currently one point up on Erie for the last playoff spot but Erie has a game in hand

6th in u19 scoring in the O, neck and neck with Pastujov, ahead of fellow 03 Del Bel Belluz who is a likely top 50 pick. Voit is 5 months older, both in their 3rd year of OHL eligibility

I'm sure there's a chance if the Leafs have interest.

I think there is a better chance the Leafs like Petruzzelli.

We already have Woll and Kallgren signed on SPC's and Petruzzelli on an AHL contract which may get upgraded to an SPC at some point. McKay is going to be 25 this year, and I doubt he has any interest in being an ECHL starter/backup at this point.

I get the feeling that the Leafs don't like undersized goalies either.

Much better lineup decisions today (other than the stupidity which continues to be that top pairing).
