But how often does that really happen unless maybe ownership or senior management were pushing that? Most clubs that have had any level of success seem to want to keep all their best pieces and the new guy just does tweaks. The whole point of a regime change is "we have all this good stuff and the guy couldn't make it work, so new guy, make these pieces work" . Rather than change the players they change GM/Coach/President whoever. I admit Edmonton did more than just tweaks when they brought Chiarelli in but that was the exception (man turned out to be a bonehead and unlucky as well). If Dubas is gone after another bad playoff it is likely that one of the core is moved, but if he stays after another bad playoff I think thats just as likely. Nobody is blowing it up no matter what some extremists here like to suggest.Or make a reactionary GM change that sees the newcomer absolutely hemorrhage talent and value in an unforced effort to "clean house" and remake the org in their image
I thought those comments were about Knies and Abruzzese, not Tverberg?Actually Friedman mentioned it the first time he brought up Knies maybe getting a look. He actually said it looks like the club wants to get both these guys in some games before the end of the season for a look. Not sure if he was referring to the Leafs or the Marlies tho.
I don't subscribe to needing drastically different skillsets. Not to mention both Abruzzese and NRob are actually pretty well-rounded offensive players that play balls-to-the-wall and aren't afraid of forechecking, puck retrieval, and being fesity. I do believe in chemistry, and I feel both of them have interesting profiles that could translate into productive top-9 F roles and fit well in Keefe's system.I am on the fence about keeping both Robertson and Abruzzese. The whole argument for drafting best skill available and dangles over grit was so they could trade the surplus for positions of actual need. On a club that already has Willie and Mitch what are these guys futures? We are talking here about adding players like Comtois and were in the hunt for Hagel so do we need more Marner lites? Don't get me wrong I am glad they haven't emptied the cupboard for a rental but if they want to add a young cost controlled player at a position of real need something of real value has to go the other way.
Do you see something that sets one of the Nick's above the other? Or are you maybe looking ahead to what the club may need to have available if one of the top wingers goes (so keep both)? I agree all of that group could have impact next season, but also that might be two years away and the window is already open.
I'm not against leaving him there to overripen, but I don't see it being the smartest thing to do.He's got technical elements to his game that he needs to work on still in terms of development. The Gophers have a good track record with skill development which is why I think he may end up returning + having consistency in his environment I like rather than constantly moving guys around.
I'm not opposed to him heading to the AHL either. But think he's likely still a season away from being a full time NHLer.
Oops misread your post. Not Tverberg at all.I thought those comments were about Knies and Abruzzese, not Tverberg?
All three playing pro would be cool.
It’s a pretty nice next wave, either way. Before any potential additions and even excluding Amirov until he beats his health concerns.
Edit: tbh he's lucky that was only 2 mins. That's a 10 game suspension in the NHL or a a $5000 fine if he didn't play for the Leafs

Sometimes you need that element. You have to love seeing it.

Looked like shoulder on shoulder to me, too, with maybe some whiplash like effect.LMAO WHAT? That’s a shoulder hit, not even head contact. And good love to see Knies playing with some edge. We lack that.

Knies scores late but Minnesota loses 4-3
It didn't even come close to his head.
In all fairness, you may be right on this. I watched it on a phone, so I couldn't see the cage.I think it clipped his cage, but if he was just wearing a visor, I think it would have missed his head entirely. His cage juts out a little bit.
I guess to some extent thats true. Someone has to dig the pucks out of the corners and these guys arent Hyman or Bunting. Robertson strikes me as more of a Willie type finisher and Abruzzese more of a Marner type line driver so prototypical top 6 guys based on the clubs current 3rd line configuration.I don't subscribe to needing drastically different skillsets. But it does feel like you see 5'9" and that's your issue.
This guy will be a top 5 heavyweight the minute he steps in the show.
They won't require waivers if they sign an NHL contract.I really hope the Leafs don't let him go and sign him to an NHL deal next season. Heck... I would even try to sign him for the rest of the season but I don't think the Leafs would want to risk waivers with him (same for Ho-Sang).
