If Nick can play lw, rw and c….and play like he did in this tournament, he’ll find a role fast.
I completely agree. He really did have an eye opening tournament for me. I saw a ton of transferability in his game to the pro level. Great vision and anticipation.

I can see him playing games with the Leafs as early as next year TBH. Not initially maybe, but as a call up here and there. Similar to Steeves

Forward prospects that could end up playing for the Leafs in the next couple of years.

Abruzzese
Amirov
Knies
Robertson

Plus the longer shots

Abramov
Hirvonen
Holmberg
Douglas
Voit

We will have a good pipeline, certainly for the wings... let's hope it works out.

I'd throw Holmberg in that top group at this point, especially if you have Abruzzese there.

He's a year older than Engvall when he came over, and Engvall never had a season even remotely close to Holmberg's this year in the SHL. Not to mention Engvall was basically a full time NHL player after 1.5 seasons with the Marlies. Wouldn't be shocked if Holmberg either started the season with the Leafs or was a full time player by the TDL if he translates quickly.

agreed.

I think Holmberg is arguably bottom 6 ready as soon as this year after his SHL season wraps. he was a hound hunting down those pucks in the corners every game I watch of his this tournament.

Plays a brand of hockey that seems to be very adaptable to any role

Agree with @Morgs about Holmberg as a complementary player up and down the lineup.
Steeves has gotta be in that top group too, for me.
And I like Hirvonen a lot; greasy, experienced, c or w. There’s a lot to like there.

He seemed a good bet to be a solid, smart, cerebral third liner *before* his offence took off in the last playoffs.

Ya it really is kind of wild to think there could be a roster that has our current core group with a host of these young complimentary players throughout the lineup.

I imagine Bunting will walk once his deal is up. It was the right call with Hyman, and it will likely be the same for Bunts.

I think we can also entice Kase to take a team friendly 1 year deal given that he is an RFA after this season still. Walk him straight to UFA in 2023 summer.

And by the start of 2023-24 season we could see a lineup line

Amirov - Matthews - Marner
Robertson - JT - Nylander
Knies - Abruzzese - Holmberg
Steeves - Kampf - Hirvonen

Would need to resign Kampf at that point as well. But it could be a good lineup. Its a little too unproven for sure, but if they can get Robby, Amirov, Steeves and maybe even Holmberg in there as soon as next year it would help.

or Bracco.

Bracco didn't work out, but his usage of the 10-2 was pretty sweet. Dude knew how to use his edges. He's obviously not as fluid or selective as Makar or Skinner (or Marner, for that matter), but considering he wasn't a burner, he used edgework to open up plays. It made Bracco pretty shifty — hopefully the same is true of Voit, too.

yeah, before his offence took off i still fully expected him to be a potential competent 4th liner in the NHL just based on his work ethic and defensive acumen. the fact that his offence exploded like it did was v exciting. but we'll have to wait and see if it translates.

Bummer Abramov is on the 4th line for some reason.

Really think 3C potential exists there.
he'd usually be slotted in with seney and anderson which makes ritchie's presence so much more unfortunate

but he did just score

Pfft. Lili can’t even crack the lineup.

Poor Steeves gotta carry Cliffy.

Suomela is pretty good, but Clifford definitely should not be in the top 9.

I don't know why they didn't just keep the McMann - Abramov - Steeves 3rd line together. They have played very well together.

Suomela is a bit too good for 4C, but so is Abramov.

If Ritchie gets hurt in the minors and they have to put him an LTIR does that remove his buried cap hit from the team?
