marlies aren't a bad place to be for him. he'll be surrounded by abramov, SDA, gogolev to help him adjust.

It's perfect. Leafs have been a great spot for Russian players in the past few years. We have historically been awful at drafting Russian talent.

But with Amirov also close to probably jumping ship, hopefully we have turned a corner there.

Did any of you guys read the Nick Robertson interview they posted over at the Athletic?
Curious if I'm in the minority on this or if I'm reading too deep, but IMO his answers often seemed to be a little more cocky than confident, and there seemed to be some subtle digs at Leafs management. Also he explained why he's not injury prone by explaining how all his injuries are "freak accidents", which is kind of what being injury-prone means lol.

Either way, not that I care too much about a little cockiness, but IMO it isn't the healthiest mindset. What also really shone through in his interview is his work ethic (which we already know, but the affirmation is nice). Its good to see him being instantly productive. I have him ranked behind Amirov and Knies, but I consider them all very close and Robertson absolutely could end up the best of the lot, if the team holds on to him.

lol, why isn't it the healthiest mindset? why is it that hockey players have to be boring as f*** and have no personality? Why is it that they can't be confident in their ability?

Our cries have been answered! Get him over to the Marlies yesterday.

Wow.

I've been very passionate about wanting a different development path for Dmitry. He has been unnecessarily boxed out in Sibir IMO, and he needs a new challenge.

This is such great news, but completely unexpected. This is so rare for Russian born and developed players to leave Russia for a new developmental venture. I really hope we don't just loan him back to Sibir.

The management group must love this guy. He is one of 3 players Kyle Dubas has traded up for to select in a draft since he became Leafs GM. Holmberg and Tverberg being the other 2. Which says a lot if you ask me.

I could not be happier to be honest. I still view him as a bit of a long shot prospect, but I am definitely higher on Dmitry than most. I think this kid has game breaking speed and skill.

It will be a long road for him still, but having the resources of MLSE now, and getting the appropriate training and playing time will be so big for him. At this point, failure or not, we will know we did what we could with this selection.

This made my day

Notice how in my post I said he comes across cocky rather than confident, I have no issues with confidence, also please quote where I ever said that hockey players should be boring as f*** and have no personality? It's not something I believe nor have I ever said.

Did you actually read the interview I was referencing? Or are you just trying to engage in some sort of weird debate? There's a lot of nuance in the interview in the way especially that the reporter paraphrases some of his responses.

I wonder if the Marlies coaching staff has been learning Russian?
Next year they’ll need to bone up on their Finnish.

my point exactly, who the fck cares if he's cocky? Only in hockey is that deemed to be a bad thing.

Great news.... super curious to see how he looks in NA
I think he will have a tough go to start, but he will adapt over time. That is just my gut feeling.

He needs to get stronger. But his speed and skill is off the charts.

I'd be shocked if he makes an immediate impact for a couple reasons. Adjusting to NA game, adjusting to a new country/language, he will play lower in the lineup, and he is still very undersized.

But then again I don't think any outcome is out of the range of possibilities. He is a complete wildcard. The MHL is likely not as good as any CHL league, but Dmitry also played for a shit team in that league and was very clearly one of the best players in the league. Maybe his transferability will be most like Abramov's. Played in a shitty junior league on a shitty team and statistically dominated in every aspect. There is obvious skill with Abramov, but he is also being muzzled a touch with opportunity. Deservedly so, he needs to round out his game a bit more. Which to his credit he has.

Like I said before, this is just fantastic news though. We finally have control on Dmitry. Such a welcomed surprise. I can't wait to watch him play for the Marlies.

all of the marlies' russian players played in the CHL so i imagine they can translate if need be lol

actually, anyone know if nik antropov is still with the leafs org? pretty sure he was in player development with them

sweeeeeeeeeeeeet ..........

There’s a fine line between cocky and confident. I work with people who are cocky and others who are confident. The confident people are a pleasure to work with and push me to be better. The cocky people drive me insane and I hate working with them. As long as he’s not rubbing people of the wrong way I don’t care doesn’t affect me as a fan.

bit of a longer video, but this is the video I watched post selection that got me super high on Ovchinikov. This guy used to make great videos on a lot of NHL prospects. He doesn't sound like he is a pro/ameteur scout, more so a hobbyist like everyone else on here. But he seems to have a decent eye for the game and makes some decent points.

If you don't like his commentary, you could literally mute the video and be impressed with this kids speed and skill.

Personally I don't think outward cockiness looks good on anyone, musicians, athletes, or common folk. So to each their own then. I have a feeling you haven't read the article. He sort of implies that he thinks he should have been in the NHL full time since the Columbus series and is growing disillusioned with the Leafs' front office because of his AHL stint. When in reality, he looked very out of place in his NHL games and clearly needs AHL seasoning.

this isn't your average job. some of the best pro athletes have a level of confidence that is perceived as cockiness. in hockey that line has become so skewed that any personality or just being straight up confident in an interview is perceived as cockiness. It's a major issue in hockey culture.

This is why the sport in itself is so shit outside of actual games being played. Because anything players say, is taken and then are judged or its taken out of context. They can't be themselves unlike other major sports where personality, a bit of confidence and cockiness is acceptable and even welcomed by fans.

that's laughable that you think that's being cocky. That's self belief. Nothing wrong with that and proves my point about hockey fans. If anyone believes in themselves. it's perceived as cockiness.

Thanks for sharing

Looks like the Habs signed the Youtuber in Jan '21

Habs make Yannick St-Pierre (Draft Dynasty YouTube Channel) a video scout

He also predicts the Leafs goalie draft strategy for the next two years at 3:59 of the video you shared

Lol, what's laughable is your reading comprehension. You're arguing with your own conception of "hockey fans" (which is just bizarre) rather than anything I have actually posted. Again, you haven't even read the article I was referencing nor seem to grasp the nuance of it. Self belief is knowing what your potential and the confidence that you're capable of achieving it. Thinking that opportunity is something you are owed rather than earn has nothing to do with self-belief. And please point to me one person who has ever said that believing in oneself is bad? Newsflash, all NHL players believe in themselves, without it they would have never got to the top level.
Leafs front-office clearly has a lot of faith in Robertson and are invested in his future, for him to feel slighted about playing in the AHL rather than recognizing it as an opportunity for him to develop and work on his weaknesses is not the right attitude for hitting his ceiling as a player, imo. And it seems that he wants to be traded to another organization rather than force himself into the line up one day.
