Amirov is signed to an ELC but has an outclause for next season if he's placed in the AHL. Very Unlikely.

Niemela doesn't have an ELC yet and he has a contract with Karpat for next season I believe. He will likely have the same conditions as Amirov when he signs his ELC. Unlikely.

Hirvonen isn't signed yet but will probably be signed soon. It's possible he joins when he does. Kokkonen and Holmgren should be on the Marlies next season unless I missed something.

Rindell is also a possibility. We lose his rights if we don't sign him by June 1st 2022 though so we'll see what happens there.

As far as Niemelä goes, a lot of you seem to think Niemelä will be playing in Finland next year if he doesn't make the Leafs. I don't think so. He doesn't have anything to prove in Finland. He is STRONG on this level. One of the best ever, in his age group. EVER. His all-around defensive play has improved enough that he can move on to the AHL and take his chances there, and he'll aim to prove his worth and play a few games in the big show. I don't think you guys understand the level of this guy, as far as Finnish D prospects go. 100% he moves over the pond next year, no doubt about it. Get ready to enjoy him in the Marlies. Let's just hope he makes it in the small rink. As I've detailed earlier in this thread, I have my worries.

About Rindell, forget about him for now. A lost cause. The guy is nowhere near the level of Niemelä, unless you want a 4th forward who is an absolute disaster in his own end and will lose you games.

I think it will take some convincing from Dubas and co to get him over to the Marlies next year.
Top plays in Liiga can make 500k+, hard to ask a young guy to come to N.A to play in the AHL for like 20% or less than what we would make in his home country.

It will be Dubas selling him on the facilities, coaching etc. getting him ready for the NHL jump faster than just getting a year older, strong and better naturally at home.

Too bad standard ELC's have such a low AHL $ standard. Would make it way eaiser to get guys over if the salary wasnt 75k

I believe they can give him a signing bonus on his elc of something in the 90's.... so he can theoretically make 165,000 or so... still a drop though ...

Weird development. Amirov could potentially make his way to the Leafs/Marlies soon?

KHL is skipping the rest of the regular season and going straight to playoffs after the Olympics. I wonder what this means for Amirov and potentially coming to NA sooner.

EDIT: @SprDaVE beat me to it.

Weird but welcome development in all honesty. Longer run way in the AHL where we can feed him some ice time.

So Amirov will play playoffs and then be suiting up for the Marlies by late March/early April?

Might even get some games before, took a glance at the playoffs there, I think Amirov's team could be good for a series win but gonna face some good teams in round 2 onwards.

I've never been overly impressed with Miettinen. Just seems like an average prospect at best that will have a hard time getting out of the AHL if he makes it there. A shooter without any other tools. Cole Caufield if you will.

Tverberg and Knies are just really exciting prospects.

Ya you may be right. I think he has the right skillset to evolve eventually, and I still love the pick in the 6th round. It is almost impossible to find a player w/o gaps in their game in those later rounds. The fact that Veeti had an NHL shot/release the day he was drafted made that selection worth while. Hard to find any player selected in the 6th/7th with NHL level skill in any category.

Even the softest and most skilled players can find a way to play a 200 foot game, but it is very challenging for a crash and bang player to develop the skill that is required to play in today's NHL. It definitely happens, but it you hear far more stories of skill guys adapting their games vs. knuckle draggers finding skill.

Veeti was always a long shot where we selected him, and I'd say he's performed well beyond where he was selected. Still poses as a long shot for the NHL, but he still has plenty of time to turn that narrative around.

Oh the pick was good. I liked it then and I still today. Even in hindsight it was solid. I think the hype he got and sometimes gets since drafted is too high for his capabilities, it's all. I've seen him ranked ahead of other much more rounded prospects actually producing in the AHL or pro leagues, which is weird to me.

Yup, I agree. I think even Wheeler had him ranked in the top 10 of our pool ahead of Holmberg which is completely ridiculous IMO. I've only had the privilege of watching a couple St.Cloud games with Veeti in the lineup. He's a true goal scorer, and by that I mean if he is not putting the puck in the net he tends to not be very visible. That said, he has the ability to score from almost anywhere I the offensive zone, so he can often score when you don't even expect a shot.

He 100% will need to develop another layer to his game if he wants to play at the NHL level. I think NCAA is the right league for him though. 1 more year to physically develop and hopefully we can sign him to an ELC to play with the Marlies thereafter. By then we can hope to try and adapt his game to a level that is more suitable to the pro game.
