Interesting stat: artur akhtyamov started his first five vhl games at around .890. He’s now at .913.

I consider .915 to be average. The fact that he’s been able to push his save% is impressive.

Meh, in the VHL he needs to be pushing .930, maybe even .940 to start having serious NHL prospects.

He hasn't been nearly good enough this year. Even Peska in the MHL needs more than a .934 for me to get excited as crazy as that sounds.

Hopefully he keeps pointing in that direction.

Dmitri Ovchinnikov with 4 assists in the MHL today. Up to 26 points in 16 games. It's a waste that he isn't getting minutes in the KHL.
It’s also a waste he, a guy who can pk and play 5v5, couldn’t make an international team where half their forwards couldn’t even put up a ppg as a d+2 and even if they decided to go a full skill lineup, he would still be one of their most skilled players.

I’m never going to stop beating this dead horse.

sibirskie snaipery’s leading scorer has 25 points in 35 games.

Some of them need to make the NHL for that to be born out. Great drafts are based on the NHLers they turn out, not College and Liiga numbers so D+4 and D+5 will show if they have done a great job and their D+4s are only just coming out of the oven now The trending looks as good as I can ever remember though.
There is no guarantees with prospects but our current pool of prospects look more promising than the ones we've had under the last several regimes. Dubas has prioritized skill over all else and his draft picks have mostly shown to produce when moving up a level. We've seen it with Sandin, Robertson, Kral, Abramov, Abruzzese, Knies etc. Scoring in lower leagues is a better indicator of producing at the next level. Where as if you look at Burkes drafts, a lot of his picks didn't produce well in junior and then never produced when moving up to the AHL etc.

Ho Sang on the Olympic team.

After seeing some posters do some rankings, I wanted in. Rather than pure ranks or depth charts, I decide to do tiers. Did not include goalies.

Tier 1: The top prospects

Rodion Amirov, Matthew Knies, Topi Niemela, Nick Robertson

Tier 2: The next tier

Mikhail Abramov, Nick Abruzzese, Roni Hirvonen, Pontus Holmberg

Safe Tier: These guys may all make it with a higher floor, but potential is likely capped

Joey Anderson, Mikko Kokkonen Filip Kral, Kristians Rubins, Alex Steeves

Tier 4: These two were tough to place in a tier. They've had a great year and there seems to be potential with both, but will need to continue their upward trend.

Ryan Tverberg, Ty Voit

Tier 5: These players each have some interesting potential attached to them, but have a lot to do if they want to make the NHL

SDA, Curtis Douglas, Michael Koster, Vietti Miettenen, Joe Miller, Dmitry Ovchnnikov. William Villeneuve

Didn't think there was really anyone else of note after these guys.

I would honestly have Douglas in your safe tier. He seems like a pretty safe bet to me to carve out some type of career in the NHL on a 4th line.

Duszak with 25 points in 24 games. Is he going to be a career AHL offensive D star, or a chance to make it in the NHL?

He should get a chance in the NHL at some point, but likely the latter.

I will commend his commitment to drastically improve his defensive game though. He will never be a star defensively, but he may be able to survive without being sheltered.

Same especially after he didn't get better in junior. Just goes to show how good of a drafter Dubas is. I would still make that trade every day but Durzi making it is a positive for Dubas.

.... Durzi improved every year in junior and was even over a point per game in the year he missed games due to injury... and he absolutely dominated in his playoff games that year too. So to say he didn't get better is just flat out false and shows you don't know nothing about him.

Also one of leaders in scoring at the Memorial Cup his last year in the CHL. shouldn't be a surprise that he made it to the NHL. He's always been a decent defender and a high quality prospect.

Unlike Brennan too, Duszak is a really good skater. I have my doubts on him still but we'll see.

Duszak is a great offensive D-man who has come a long way defensively but unfortunately for him, he's going to be valued only as a one-dimensional offensive d-man at the NHL level. We haven't exactly been a team that has prioritized those players or allowed them to thrive in our systems/lineups and I don't see Duszak breaking the mold. I think in order for him to succeed, he needs to go to a team that has a d-man spot dedicated purely for his role.

Durzi actually didn't improve the year after we drafted him until after we had already traded him. He was a very good offensive d-man but his foot speed and the defensive game needed work in order for him to become an NHL player. When he was traded by the Leafs, he was injured IIRC and was having a down year to that point. He was also drafted as a D+1 guy at age 19 after a good showing at the development camp. His making it to the NHL was a bit of a surprise for me because I didn't think he had a strong enough defensive game coming out of junior to really help him thrive as a pro but his offense has carried him to the NHL this year. Another major factor that also has carried him up is the fact that the Kings have absolutely 0 better options when it comes to NHL-ready d-men.

Behind Doughty and Roy they have a bunch of rookies and 3rd pairing d-men. Outside of Doughty, they have no offensive d-men. Durzi isn't stellar defensively and I don't think he ever will be but he was in the right spot at the right time this year. Had Edler not been hurt or had Durzi been in the Leafs development system, I don't think he's making the NHL for a while. And this is not to take anything away from the guy because he's done extremely well to do the exact thing they brought him up for and that was produce offense and move the puck. With the Leafs, however, similar to Duszak, we just don't give an inch to those types of players.

EDIT:
I 100% expect Duszak to get moved before the end of this year. I think he's good enough to get a shot on a team like Arizona, Buffalo or Seattle who desperately needs a PMD. Yet another wonderful thing that Dubas excels at and gets crapped on by some people is his loyalty to players and allowing them to make a living and continue on their careers by giving them opportunities to explore trade/free agency options where they might thrive. Sucks because you lose the guy but I'm sure players and agents really appreciate it because they know that if they were to sign with us and fail, we won't just bury them.
