First thing I noticed about Knies was how big he looks. Holy crap he’s a monster. He sort of remind me of Chris Kreider with how he plays
He looks like a man among boys in this tournament. The only real deficiency I see is his explosiveness. He can get a head of steam eventually but he doesn't have that quick start yet. I think that will be something he needs to work on to get him to that blue chip level. If he can find a way to get that extra step on guys right from the get go he will be next to impossible to stop. He's got a great nose for the net, great set of mitts, Great shot, and he is extremely hard on the puck. The explosiveness is really the only thing that I see as a weakness.

You can see when he gets time to turn on the jets he is able to do so. It just takes him a bit longer than I'd like at this point.

Biggest fear about a guy like Knies is that he doesn't use his body to open up plays for him and/or his skills don't translate to his power game.

Thankfully neither of those are an issue.

That's the difference between a JVR/Nathan Horton type player and an Adam Lowry type player.

Mathews didn't learn to us his body to open up ice for 3 yrs now he is finding that when he does people back of he is also using his big frame to dislodge players from the puck.
The collage game there is less contact .
If he wishes to be great he will learn.

Not going to lie I was really pulling for us to take Pastujov. I had him ranked in my top 12 last year. That being said I am really happy with Knies. He has top 15 pick skill, an even better shot and he has the body of a power forward. His game is going to translate very well to the NHL. He has surpassed my expectations by a lot.

Hirvonen left the game injured
Niemelä wasn't very impressive.

Finland wasn't good in general
Honestly I thought both of them had solid games. They may not have stole the show, but Germany played a very solid game. There wasn’t much ice for Finland all game. I feel like both Roni and Topi had better showings today over their pre-tournament game.

I expect both of them to have games this tournament where they outright dominate, but they will also have games where they don’t hit the scoresheet. Today was just one of those days.

hopefully nothing is too bad for Roni. He was on the bench for the 3-1 goal, so maybe once they went up 2 he felt better about exiting the game. Would be a shame to see him go down with an injury or worse (Covid) right at the start of the tournament

Well I like him more than Brad lambert
And lambert is a top 10 guy

Niemela played 21 minutes .he plays with a lot of dmen that likely get 1 shift a game In the Liga
If Finland wants to medal Hirvonen and Niemela will have to play lots
So far Finland coach hasn't had to really coach

And it sounds like the American-Swiss game might be cancelled.
Yup just saw. Bobby Mack says its from the US side which means it would count as a forfeit for the US (Gord Miller reported first that it was from the Swiss side - shocking that that moron would be wrong).

Can't say I am all too disappointed by this. He seems to be developing amazingly over in Finland. He has progressed every year since being drafted. No reason to think this will change with 1 extra year of development.

Hopefully 1 more year with Karpat before he makes the Miro Heiskanen level jump directly to the NHL from SM-Liiga
