The same issues he's had last year. Just not enough skill and offensive output. He's a smart player that works hard and all that but his lack of offensive skill will hold him back and not many players can consistently stay in the NHL without it.

The Blazers are terrible so he doesn't much help but I think 1 goal in 6 games is not good enough.

He's certainly got some NHL qualities to his game, they just aren't offense though. At best, I think we can hope for a Kampf replacement in a few years.

Minten is still probably 2/3 years away. They should have developed a player ready to take over #2 as Tavares ages imo
This organization has really struggled to develop centres. Not many are drafted to begin with which I find odd. Others then get developed as wingers while others simply don't make it. It feels like the last 15 years has seen Kadri, Gauthier and Matthews.

This is why I think Minten is a valuable prospect, even if his jr stats are pedestrian. There is likely more value to this team than others. Rather than constantly trying to sign a 3rd line centre or pissing away assets for one, it would be nice to develop one. Not every prospect has to be a 1st liner. Not expecting Cirelli here, but if a better version of Kampf could be developed, I'd be happy. A 35 point two-way centre would go a very long way here.

The same for defense we have never developed a top tier dman ljiligren and sandin were the only ones.
You can't always go the FA route

Goaltending we seem to have alot of prospects on the rise Woll Hildeby and a couple of others.

That is why when people bring minten up in trade rumors I say no. We finally have C prospect that is really good
200' player
FO 50 %
40 pt center down the road
Big and strong
Will play on the PK
Trade no

I mean, we've got Rielly.... he seems to be pretty good.
Vegas last year had one D on their roster they had drafted.
Colorado had two the year before.

It's just the way it is.

I'd agree with everything that you say there about Minten, except 40 pt center. From what I've seen, he might crack 30 points... maybe, a couple of times.

Pronman and Wheeler from the athletic have Cowen and Minten making the WJ Team.

Reaves I will agree with but Kampf is a valuable player, and if they can keep him for reasonable money and a spot on the 4th line and at key faceoff time why not -- Bellows does not replace Kampf.

I agree - but I think the leafs are just taking a slow approach with him. He's shown that he can play teh pro game- lead rookies in most categories in ECHL last year, and was top goalie in most stats regardless of rookie/vet status. He faced something like 98 shots in 2 back to back games recently and got a shutout in one of them.
I think there is an narrative that because Kampf can't score he is this defense/faceoff specialist.
Kampf is basically a 50% faceoff guy as a Leaf trditionally finishing 3rd on the team behind JT and Matthews.
I am not even convinced he is that good defensively, that is his assigned role and he eats minutes doing it but is he that good at it...call me skeptical.

He really has been exposed on the pk this year little things like Sticc position idk but I know the guys love him right but I’m starting to see holmberg replacing him especially if he’s not gonna be atleast 50% in the dots

Kampf needs a very specific set of wingers for him to look ok. Essentially, he needs quick wingers that can move the puck up ice without his help. I look at this as a liability because it heavily restricts the type of players that can play with him.

He is redundant on our team but he won’t be traded because he was one of BT first signing. With the identity of our team is to have three lines capable of scoring he is not good enough offensively for a spot there.
On the fourth line that the identity they are trying to get to is a crash and bang energy line he is not built for that.

Right now his 2.4 is wasted

The last 7 years is essentially a three year window. Even Lilly took four years post draft to make the NHL.

Yes and most of the assists were secondary. Could be culture shock going back to the old league except with a toilet lineup. If I read the WHL stat line right he has had 44 shots in 6 games which is an insane pace. Its early and they have to start going in.

Last night Hildeby stopped 32 of 34 in a 2-1 loss. He has a 1.51 GAA and a .941 SV% after 6 games. Great start.

Bellows scored again. 6G 6A in 8 games.
The fact that he's putting up these numbers and he's 6'7 has me very excited for him. He's also very smooth in the net ... and a creature of habit, calmly turning around and taking water after every whistle when he freezes the puck. If he comes up I could honestly see him steal the net from Woll or Sammy

Bellows looks like a solid reclamation project. Former 1st rounder and blue chip prospect who's still only 25. Given his skating and grit I can see him at least being a potential energy player who produces some offence on the third or fourth line. If he can get better at puck retrieval and recovery though he might even be able to carve out a Hyman or Bunting role on a scoring line.
