Hildeby seems to be sliding the last month or so after a really hot start.

Part of it could be the work load - most of the last ~5 seasons he's played ~20-25 games, and this year he's already played 31 (so will probably hit close to 40 by the end of the season).

That, and the Marlies have been a hot mess defensively for a while. The AHL game is a bit weird, and unpredictable.

I'd look at it more compared to the other goalies.

It's a points in games played streak, not an ironman games streak.

Sure it’s his own streak we can talk about it and be factually accurate, but would it count as a record (if he had enough games left) to be a point streak?

Yes, the record is in games played points streak. Otherwise many of the streaks wouldn’t count, like Bedard’s, because he missed a bunch of games playing in the WJC.

Oh yes that makes sense for junior. All the best players would have streaks snapped

Cowan being played at centre is interesting. He's already bigger than a guy like Point and will keep adding muscle. I know it's still more likely he ends up on the wing but it's nice to dream of the versatility he might provide if he can do it at the NHL level.

I'm not worried about his defensive game with his PK exploits and how hard he works out there. If he happens to stick in the middle suddenly our centre prospect depth looks decent with Cowan as a 2nd/3rd line guy and Minten as a 3rd/4th line option.

Marlies win 7-3. Goal and 2 assists for Abruzzese. Kokkonen with a goal.
Niemela was a healthy scratch today. Could just be rest as Marlies play again tomorrow in the final game of a 3 in 3.
Marshall Rifai with a pair of apples too.
Kiefer Bellows with a big game too. 2g2a.
Strange to see a box with 7 goals and no Steeves.

I was at the game and I like Tverbergs game overall but one thing I've noticed a bit is his tendency to get rocked with his head down. Hopefully he works on that.

Are Abruzzese and Steeves looking like career AHL level players at this point?

Wonder if a few of them are moved to recover some late picks traded at the deadline this year.

Big 2 points with Laval breathing down their necks for the final playoff spot. Next weekend will be huge with Laval in Belleville for 2 before coming back here, Marlies go back to Rochester and then host Hartford and Laval.

99% chance he's a winger in the NHL but that's fine, nothing wrong with the versatility, builds defensive responsibility too.

Obviously not my call, but I think both guys can play in the league.
Abruzzese might be a niche kinda guy by the reports, so if a team/ the Leafs had a role for a pass first kinda guy who can help a PP, he’d be a good fit. For me, he’s a sum of the parts kinda guy. So, beside a couple bigger two way guys who are more shoot/tip types, he could be a cheap asset.
Steeves might need to bare down - as a more offensive player - on something else that helps him stand out, but I’d like to see him get a chance as a 13th guy with the time he’s put in.

I think the Bobby McMann come up story is useful to note in how a lot of these fringier guys in the AHL can come up, hang around for a while and then establish themselves in a way maybe Alex Steeves hasn't been able to. Similarly with Verhaeghe and Marchment, these guys came up as dumb bodies with a bit of skill and they hung on doing random grunt jobs long enough to do something noticeable and progress up the lineup, showing versatility all the way. I imagine Kieffer Bellows might get an opportunity at some point to be the next McMann too.

Guy like Steeves will need to have that kind of staying power. Guy like Abruzzese is way behind the 8 ball. Like imagine him getting fed the opportunities like Robertson. Or hanging on doing 4th line work like a Holmberg. I don't see him getting any traction before the next wave of Minten and Cowan, maybe Grebenkin start trying to push up.

Sure, and Justin Holl before him.

Gotta keep mining for these kindsa finds.

I wonder if they find a way to ‘reward’ Bellows with a contract, somehow. Maybe if Jarnkrok hits LTIR. Could be a way to tempt the big kid at BU too - though I have no idea if his signing is in doubt or needs extra incentive.
