I think the Bobby McMann come up story is useful to note in how a lot of these fringier guys in the AHL can come up, hang around for a while and then establish themselves in a way maybe Alex Steeves hasn't been able to. Similarly with Verhaeghe and Marchment, these guys came up as dumb bodies with a bit of skill and they hung on doing random grunt jobs long enough to do something noticeable and progress up the lineup, showing versatility all the way. I imagine Kieffer Bellows might get an opportunity at some point to be the next McMann too.

Guy like Steeves will need to have that kind of staying power. Guy like Abruzzese is way behind the 8 ball. Like imagine him getting fed the opportunities like Robertson. Or hanging on doing 4th line work like a Holmberg. I don't see him getting any traction before the next wave of Minten and Cowan, maybe Grebenkin start trying to push up.
The only thing I would say to that is all of those players improved each and every year. They didn't really stagnate at all. I don't know how much Abruzzeze and Steeves etc have improved vs. stagnated, whereas McMann, Marchment, Verhaghe, and Holl improved leaps and bounds each year.

Sure, and Justin Holl before him.

Gotta keep mining for these kindsa finds.

I wonder if they find a way to ‘reward’ Bellows with a contract, somehow. Maybe if Jarnkrok hits LTIR. Could be a way to tempt the big kid at BU too - though I have no idea if his signing is in doubt or needs extra incentive.

Bellows is so streaky. He's only got points in two of the last seven games... but then, it's seven points. He's got two stretches of six games with no points at all. No chance he gets a NHL contract this year. Maybe next year... though I guess that's to be determined.

I'd say that both Abruzzese and Steeves have improved their two way game, and Steeves his 5v5 game... I'm not really constructive on either of them being much more than AAAA type guys though.... good AHL guys, maybe not good enough for the NHL. I don't think either are really what we'd want for a 4th line guy, and I don't think there is enough offense for anything much higher. They are ok offensively, but that side of their games hasn't grown at all.

They are ok as fill in emergency depth, and will probably be kept for that reason. I can't see anyone really giving up much for them, and we aren't in a spot where we really need to move them for help in other positions on the Marlies.

Not even sure I'd classify Steeves and Abruzzese as AAAA guys. They seem to be properly slotted in the AHL.

I did think Abruzzeze looked shifty the last time he was called up last year, where he did pick up two assists in two games. Smart player like that may look better in a more predictable league like the NHL than you would think based on his AHL numbers. That being said, a player like him has negative value in the playoffs, so what's the point?

Marchmant is a great example of just a guy needing an opportunity. Trevor Moore I'd also point to as a guy who was never a high-end prospect but can be an NHL'er.

Grebyonkin doing well in the KHL playoffs.

5 points in 7 games.
One younger player with same points, 2nd. rounder by Hawks, but his regular season wasn't as good as Grebenkin's 19 year old season.

Grebyonkin also doesn't get the TOI That Yurov gets either.

Marlies win 7-1. One of the bigger games of the season since Lavel is right behind them, and Marlies with a dominating win. Hildeby 30 saves. Hirvonen and Abruzzese with a goal each. Steeves with 2 assists. Niemela with an assist and reaches 30 points on the season. Tverberg and Villeneuve also with an assist each.

I think I was probably too harsh on Hirvonen before.

How has he looked since coming back?

I was at the Marlies games on Saturday and was really impressed by Bellows. Good vision and a better shot than I thought. I think he can be an option for us next year.

Clifford is so entertaining to watch live. Such a goon. LOL When you see him live you realize just how often he randomly punches and pushes people. Probably the biggest ogre in the AHL.

I think you get him on an AHL deal and see. Probably won't amount to anything but with his shot, you take a chance.

Yeah I was at the 7-1 beat down of Laval today too and Clifford is pretty funny. He really does goon it up a lot. My wife was like “why is that old guy trying to beat up all those 20 year olds”.
I liked watching Niemela. He’s really fluid on his skates and gets into really good position. Tverberg is fun to watch too, just so aggressive in everything he does. Bellows had a good game and I liked that he is a bit of a chippy pest too, aggravating guys after plays and such. I went with the purpose of watching Villeneuve but he didn’t really stand out much, but made the right play all game. Seems reliable. Hildebeast is huge live.

Cowan point streak now extended to 34 games with his assist on Ruslan Gazizov's goal. Now has sole possession of the longest point streak in London Knights history!

Considering the factory London Knights been over last 20 years, this is a great achievement
They produced some NHL hall of famers and hes' up there. Good on the kid

Thanks for the insights.
I just saw the box score. Interesting note: 16 of 18 skaters got at least one point. Nobody got more than two. Rifai and Kokkonen were the only two Marlies held pointless.
