Marner will re-sign with the Leafs. 12.5 or above. Book it.

Tavares contract is up but I can see raises to Knies and Woll eating most of the spare cap.

Robertson is talented but I don't think he is a Tre player and will be moved IMO

Need Cowan and Minten to play big roles.

Niemala could be an option for bottom-pairing in 2026. That's pretty much it

Well Hildeby.

Ok, I think how many prospects we can graduate to the NHL over the next couple of years is key to our success in hard-cap league.

Also, I was responding to someone who late that brought this topic up in this thread. But I get it. Prospects it is...

Which ones do you think we should expect to actually be in the line up in two years? We will already have young guys in the line-up in Knies, Woll, Holmberg, and Robertson. Do we think Minten is makes the jump? Cowan? Niemela? Hildeby? Tverberg? Grebonkin? Hirvonen? I think they all COULD be on the big club, but there is no way they ALL can be. If most of them do make it then we do have of cap space all of a sudden.
I get it but this is a thread for updates, not discussion on cap situations and graduates, at least that is how I see it.

I see it that way too. I come to this thread because I like reading the exact content you just described. I must have come here and read a post that took my thoughts to place where I posted something not directly about prospects. I tried to bring it back to that.

You're right, I agree and thanks for calling it out. It's important to keep this board organized and topic...when we can 😄

This is a thread for prospect discussion and part of that is prospect graduation. Or anything else prospect related. But yeah I am very guilty of going far afield. Cap discussion and salaries have ten other threads. Be better nuck!

It is the cap stuff along with some of the lineup discussions that started to annoy me. No issue with prospect graduation speculation but going into the cap related stuff isn't related to this thread. Thanks for understanding.

Anything in Slepets? 19 points in 53 games in the KHL isn't too impressive, but it does appear to be his first year as an established KHLer. I used HF's incredibly impressive and useful search function and got a lot of posts from 2018-19 (around his draft year) raving about his skating ability. I would guess the Leafs are at least marginally interested in him. Otherwise, doesn't make much sense as a throw-in? (I don't think the Hurricanes had to give something up in the salary retention trade, given they would've had Lyubushkin for a second?)

---

- Both Lajoie and Robertson were demoted yesterday, but only Lajoie played for the Marlies yesterday. I'm guessing Robertson was given a pass for the night, but, subject to other moves, will be interesting to see if he plays for the Marlies on Wednesday.

- Read that Villaneuve has been playing well, while Niemela's starting to struggle of late. Any truth in that?

- Generally disappointed in Abruzzese's production this year. Pts per game has fallen from 0.69 to 0.65 (plus had 7 pts in 7 GP in the playoffs last year) and has been pretty cold for a while, with 12 pts in his last 28 GP. (Although also just read on mapleleafshotstove that Gambrell-Bellows-Abruzzese is playing well as a line of late, just not producing)

- Tverberg gone cold after his hot streak. 2 pts in this last 12.

---

NCAA season winding down. My minimally-educated guesses for next year:
- Fusco and Miettinen stick around for a 5th-year of NCAA eligibility (apparently allowed due to Covid). Can see Miettinen getting a look and maybe an AHL deal, but his decent production doesn't 'wow' for a senior. Possible he gets a PTO to end the year (would that invalidate his NCAA eligibility if he doesn't sign a contract? Maybe if the PTO even has some nominal compensation attached to it... I vaguely recall the stipend junior players get is what invalidates them for the NCAA...). Fusco a non-prospect at this point.
- Koster maybe gets an entry-level deal? At least an AHL contract...
- Can't see Moldenhauer, Miller, Malinoski, or Schingoethe (duh) getting deals yet

Yeah I don't know either. I think when the Leafs acquired Lehner for that brief second to get a pick they sent Martins Dzierkles (sp) the other way..

Only way I can think of it is..

Boosh goes to Carolina for 50% and Anaheim gets Slepets.

Carolina trades Boosh to Leafs at 50% for 6th rounder.

Leafs trade 3rd rounder to Anaheim for Slepets?

Ultimately it ends up looking like Boosh/Slepets for a 3rd and 6th?

I was at the game, Robertson wasn't announced as a scratch. The demotion was posted on Leafs Twitter around 5, after the game started. Not sure he would have made a difference anyway, they seemed to play worse than the Boxing Day loss to Belleville. I don't see them making the playoffs.

Nice. He is regular as clockwork but not as many big nights.
Every player is not going to be on there A game every not
He comes through in the clutch.
7 short handed goals 29 game pt streak amazing
How many 2023 draft prospect are having a better year.

I've watched parts of the game the last few Marlies games... Niemela was better than I expected... really closes down on opposition players when they get the puck. I don't think we really have a spot for him in the NHL... but depth isn't bad.

Abruzzesse isn't going to be a NHL player.

I wonder if Tverberg is playing through something... notice Knies started to struggle around the same time, these NCAA kids take some time to adjust to playing a pro number of games.

He's right with Musty in PPG, who was drafted two spots ahead of him. They've both had great seasons.

Will Smith at Boston College has 54 points in 32 games, which is pretty amazing for a freshman.
Ryan Leonard is also at BC, and has 47 points in 32 games.
Yager has 75 points in 49 games in the W.
Perrault is at BC too.... stacked program... 50 points in 30 games.
Ritchie has 68 points in 42 games, which is great.

BC will probably be fun to watch in some of the Frozen Four tournament.

I'm not as impressed with Yager, he's third on his team in points, he's 30 points behind Firkus.

Marlies are in a position that it would be extremely surprising if they miss the playoffs. They would have to fall off really bad.

Sorry I wasn.t complaining about his production. Just making an observation. Gazizov and Barkey appear to gave more big games, and more games off the score sheet. It will be interesting next year when their forward depth is thinned out and they play Barkey and Cowan to death.

I don't see Knights games. Can someone tell me who his regular linemates are?

IMO Abruz plays better with better players.
He has looked more than passable in his NHL games, fits in well.

Some others on callup just do nothing.

I agree with your assessment on Tverberg’s pace slowing due to schedule adjustment. I’m looking forward to when he comes out the other end of it.

Absolutely. He has that dog on a bone style of forechecking that Hyman had with them and has more natural skill to work with.
Hyman has a very high Hockey IQ, that allows him to be more than his natural skill. That's really helped him succeed.
