I don't disagree.

It feels like Hunter was taking bigger guys hoping something would hit.

Dubas opted for smaller guys and I think you can maybe have 1 of those guys who is smaller that produces a ton of offense but they better be fast as hell. Most championship defenses are larger in size for the grind of the playoffs.

I like our work since the Knies draft, we've done well with what we have.
It comes down a lot to the quality of the area scouts. Hunter would hardly have seen players outside the OHL and Dubas probably saw nobody outside of the range of their expected #1 pick. And once you get outside of the first couple of rounds even Hunter would be lucky to have seen the remaining OHL guys more than once. He wouldn't have the time to see 150 OHL games and do literally anything else,

Its the territory scouts that have enough views to tell the prospects apart. The failure wasn't that Hunter chose Middleton/Gordeev/Greenway/Neilsen because they were bigger, it was because his scouts told him they were close to BPA at that pick when they were not. Unless we think that his scouts were telling him these guys who never had potential NHL skills should be selected because they were bigger which seems pretty thin. He was recommended guys as prospects who weren't really good prospects. There is a reason why so many of those territory guys were turned over by Dubas.

Hunter wears Rasanen and Dermott for sure because he would have seen a lot of them and Korshkov because he had seen him a bit and thought he was smarter than everyone else with the ninja selection. I don't think Dubas wandered too far off his scouts lists. BPA is BPA whether he is big or small and the discretion comes when the players are ranked around the same.

I think the recent picks will prove to be better although that might be just because they haven't been around long enough to fail yet. They are overdue to have some kind of a win outside of the first round. Go Tverberg!

Cowan was a very interesting pick in that the minute he was drafted, tons of people said it was an absolutely horrific pick and a bigtime reach.

Then he instantly crushes it in the prospects camp, shows very well at the main camp, makes team Canada and now leads the OHL in PTS/G.

I would say there's actually many non Leafs fan's that are hoping this pick busts so they can say they were right all along because at the current pace this is trending to be a phenominal pick when such a large group thought it was horrible.

It's even surprising that we have a first round pick that is lighting up the OHL while playing a good all around game and the main thread discussing him is only like 10 pages.
Our scouts deserve the benefit of the doubt. Dubas started the good drafting and Brad is contining the good work.

We've got a bunch if idiots in the Prospect forum downplaying Cowan's season because Canada struggled at the world juniors

He's only got a 17 or 18 game point streak going..
Since it was only he and Minten on the WjC, team it is understandable.

Lou had his finger prints over the hole organization.. we had no D we still don't .

Korshkov dubas and Keefe never gave him the chance.

They didn't have alot of dman that is why they went after Dermot. there was probably better ones available

Ljiligren the same thing I think hunter would have drafted his own guy Thomas

Marlies 6-1 win. Hildeby with 31 saves for the win.

Logan Shaw had a hattrick. William Villeneuve with 1g, 1a. Kokkonen 2a, Abruzzese 1a, Steeves 1a (6 shots).
Best part about it, is they destroyed Montreal's affiliate.

What's going on with Mini Ovi... He's only played a single game since January.

Cowan only a few points out of top 5 in the OHL now even despite having played anywhere from 9-12 games less than everyone else. First in points per game at 1.82

What a tremendous year he's having. He's looking like an excellent pick.

He also leads in the OHL in short handed points with 11 (5 goals, 6 assists).

Pretty crazy season to be leading the league in points per game and also total short handed points scored.

Went to the Marlies game last night. This was my 5th game of the year I believe.

Niemela always looks the same to me, which is consistent. Has good positioning, defends well and can move the puck. Not a dynamo by any means but is always smart and solid.

Villeneuve's game was overall a lot more confident last night, some games he's been smart but tentative.

Hildeby served a pizza from behind the net for the goal he gave up, but after that he was solid.

Most games, Steeves and Abruzzese look far more skilled than their peers and they stand out. Yesterday was quieter.

Tverberg was constantly in the play but did flub a few pucks in close.

This was my first time seeing Hirvonen since he's been injured. His ice time seemed low and there wasn't much from his game. I'm sure he's still finding his way back.
