I think Dillon still has value especially with his contract
I'm curious as to what they plan on doing with him, DeMelo, and Nino. All are on expiring deals and all can be traded fro picks at the deadline.

I sure hope they are re-signing Nino and DeMelo... DeMelo was the only guy who made Stanley look decent - I'd really like to see a third pair of him and Heinola or Chisholm .... soon.I'm curious as to what they plan on doing with him, DeMelo, and Nino. I think Stanley may have reached Jesse P status where everyone thinks he is worth something but he isn't. At least not a pick in the top 3 rounds type of return. May as well keep him and if he gets claimed on waivers oh well?
The off-season isn't over. Trades will be made until the season starts, so it's premature to assume that Stanley (and perhaps others) won't be traded.

I would think that Chevy holds firm until TD where Dillon is moved then Chishoim or Heinola playout the year on the third pairingI'm posting in the context of the comment about Dillon. He was the most likely to bring a decent return among those D who might have been moved. some of us thought he was the one most likely to be moved also considering that we need to break the logjam on the left side and that neither Morrissey nor Samberg are going to be moved.
I think any opportunity to trade Stanley has probably passed. He either stays now or is waived.
It may be premature but it doesn't look like anything is happening with our D until TC is over and some on the bottom are shuffled around.
Yeah tagging on another 3 or 4 years to DeMelo with a reasonable raise is a good idea for sure.I sure hope they are re-signing Nino and DeMelo... DeMelo was the only guy who made Stanley look decent - I'd really like to see a third pair of him and Heinola or Chisholm .... soon.
Dillon has a low cap hit by TD and that should be worth a young roster player and pick
I can't imagine he goes anywhere before deadline. He is still our 2nd best LD. Not that you were saying otherwise, just adding my thoughts.Having been paid half his salary for this year already increases his trade value. An acquiring team still gets his full cap hit but it only costs them 2 mil in actual money.

Deadline is when these types of guys are at a premium. Right now teams don't want to add extra salary at all. Any contender can use a guy like Dillon.I would think that Chevy holds firm until TD where Dillon is moved then Chishoim or Heinola playout the year on the third pairing

Nino would be great to keep around as well. With his age we need to be cautious as well. We don't want him making $4-5 mil in the bottom six blocking Rutger or Barlow. 2 years at his current AAV or a bit higher would be the most we should offer His game works for any line.
He is also a guy we can get a 2nd plus for at the deadline if he is not extended as well. Maybe more?
Same with DeMelo (and Dillon) for that matter. All guys that we could try to get a conditional 1st for.

At this stage I'd be surprised if anyone is on the move before February.I'm not sure if Dillon is 2LD or Snerg is.
Trading any or all of these guys depends a lot on what is going to happen with Scheif and Helle. The returns on them may determine whether we are buyers or sellers at the TD. Any of these guys may also be added to packages with Scheif and/or Helle if they are traded.
Trouble is that most competing teams don't care about actual money as much as cap hit...Having been paid half his salary for this year already increases his trade value. An acquiring team still gets his full cap hit but it only costs them 2 mil in actual money.

I'd really like to see our preseason D lineup asI think Scheif is re-signed. We aren't sure of our 2C so if we traded the 1C, where wold we be? Perfetti Vilardi Names and Lowry? Might as well rebuild...
I see a banner year for Scheif, if he plays with top caliber wingers all year.
I can't see Chevy moving Dillon before the TD.
If I had a choice between losing Stanley and Chiz, goodbye Chiz.
My first choice to move (before TC) would be Schmidt and then Stanley.
I'd add to Pionk if a 2RHD were coming back.
I think Sammy is 2LHD by the playoffs.
I'd trade Ehlers straight up for Konecny.
I'd make a 3 way trade involving Helle if Gibson were coming back.
I'd also give Helle 6 x 9m (front loaded).
I think he is moved before TC.
I'd give Scheif a very front loaded 7 x 8m deal. (10m 10m 10m 10m 6m 5m 5m).
Perfetti and Ehlers need to stay healthy this year if this team is going to compete for/in the playoffs.
Philly is finally entering a rebuild... they aren't trading a 1st and/or young players for 3 30+ year old playersI'd really like to see our preseason D lineup as
Jomo-Samberg
Heinola-DeMelo
Chisholm-Pionk
Hopefully Samberg doesn't look like a train wreck on the right side... if he surprises, that solves a lot of problems
Give Barron, Perfetti, Vilardi a TON of draws before TD - see who seizes the moment
Chevy Blockbuster!!!
Trade a package of Helle, Scheif, Dillon to the Flyers for 1st 2024 (better of the picks, top 5 protected), Frost, Cates, Hart, Seeler and a prospect or 2nd rd pick
Philly make the move because it reopens the Couturier/Konecny window and Helle puts them in the playoffs... Jets make the move for two young emerging Cs
Connor-Frost-Vilardi
Ehlers-Names-Nino
Iafallo-Cates-Perfetti
Barron-Lowry-Kupari
Jomo-Demelo
Samberg-Pionk
Chisholm/Heinola-Schmidt
Seeler
Big gamble on talent emerging... but this could be a really nice team - really could cycle these lines... and these are all players that Bowness would love.

Realistically how do you see them rebuilding? They have 2 years of Konecny and Atkinson, six years of Sanheim and Couturier, 3-4 years of Laughton, Risto and Kayes dead cap...Philly is finally entering a rebuild... they aren't trading a 1st and/or young players for 3 30+ year old players
To be fair, this team with Scheif, Names, Lowry, Kupari down the middle doesn't make the playoffs either. That team doesn't make the playoffs.

They tried to trade guys for a rebuild and it didn't work - this trade would put them in the playoffs imo... Philly's rebuild is going to hit Buffalo Sabres territory...

Oh how I wish we could get rid of Pionk, Schmidt and Stanley. Would love to see Heinola, Chisholm and/or Copa get a good chance to step up this year. That is a sunk cost. The only thing that should matter would be the return.
That said, you are probably correct.
What does this say about retooling our D? Looks like no change, at least until the TD if we are out of the PO race.
JoMo - DeMelo
Samberg - Pionk
Dillon - Schmidt
Stanley
Copacabana
Chisholm lost to waivers?
Kuznetsov has a no-trade clause.Trade Scheifele to the Caps for Kusznetsov plus one of Orio or Chesley plus a 1st round draft pick.
I was definitely considering the other teams. As I said, if Couturier, Atkinson and Farabee healthy and Scheif is their 2C - with Helle in net and Dillon replacing Staal, they are a playoff team...That's the thing with rebuilds. They're generally a slow descent into mediocrity, rather than a sudden move. Sometimes you're hamstrung by deals and you just have to ride them out.
I think saying Team X is a playoff team without considering the other teams around them, is not doing the comparison correctly. I have my suspicions that Philly team is top 8 in the East given their division (its not top 3 over NYR/NJ/CAR) and then they'd be fighting for a WC spot, not to mention potential extensions they'd need.
