Sure looked like Scheif played most of the game at C rather than RW and his lack of drive down the middle/lack of back checking really hurts the team.
Would be great to see the stats of how many times we lined up at wing for the games we won and how many times he was C for the Calgary game...
Both Scheifele and Dubois took 11 draws each in the Calgary game, Scheif was 55%, Dubois 27%.
The Jets could have very easily got the 1st goal of the game on their 1st PP, on a clearly won Scheifele draw, where he goes to the front of the net and lifts the Calgary defender's stick in time to give PLD the easy back door tip in, from Morrissey, that he missed. That's on the highlight package for everyone to see.
I'd say that Scheifele played more wing than centre against Calgary, judging by the way he played the boards. But with Dubois not very good on the draw he did get a few more of those, in important situations.
The Flames 1st goal, which was another tap in, from Scheifele himself, missed by Dubois, Connor is the 4th guy on a 3-2 for the Jets that gets in the play and turns over the puck, with Scheifele behind the net, where Connor skates to, that leads to a 2-1. Maybe Scheifele should have been backchecking earlier, Pionk got picked by Andersson to stop him from getting back, but damn that's a real tough one to pin on Scheif. That's not an odd man rush if Connor doesn't turn over the puck...in the position Scheifele was already in...
Scheifele again finds himself in a good scoring position on a pass from Connor on a well played zone entry at the end of the 2nd that he ripped, and left a tap in rebound for Morrissey, who doesn't handle it clean.
2nd Flames goal Scheif loses the draw, and can't get the puck back off the boards, which leads to the Jets giving up a 2 vs. 4 down low goal, not sure Scheif should have backchecked there.
3rd goal, Dubois is 2 stick lengths from Zadorov after he comes around the net. He never makes up that stick length, perhaps Scheifele should have skated hard across the rink hard to cover a guy who wasn't his man, but he didn't and the coach didn't bench him next shift, he benched Dubois and put Lowry out instead. So what does that mean?
I know it's the most acceptable thing on these boards to blame Mark Scheifele and his effort for every loss. Even if he plays well, he's the reason why the Jets lose.
