Score we must - cross ice pass we must not - many times try many fail
Agreed. The reality is Scheifele has played positive possession hockey throughout the season as well well as over the past 10 games. He's certainly getting the chances, but not finishing. Over the past 10 games his Corsi is 53.9, his Fenwick at 52.0, but finds himself -13.Scheifele has been at 53 xG% the last ten games. Combine that with a 2.7% on ice shooting percentage and an .870 on ice save percentage doesn’t equal bad play in my books…
Humiliating reallyAgreed. The reality is Scheifele has played positive possession hockey throughout the season as well well as over the past 10 games. He's certainly getting the chances, but not finishing. Over the past 10 games his Corsi is 53.9, his Fenwick at 52.0, but finds himself -13.
One of TSN or Sportsnet just last week reviewed Scheifele's season, calling attention to his lack of assists. Close review still had him as an elite passer (top 6) creating high danger chances (top 10) that simply aren't being finished.
He has all the talent in the world, & he has honed his game to be among the most dangerous players in the NHL. If I'm Mark Scheifele, maybe I'm allergic to criticism as well, legitimizing my effort via analyics.
But I'm not Mark Scheifele. I'm a fan who has seen the majority of the home games live & then rewatched when I got home. I've even watched road games twice. What do I see? I see a lazy, coasting, unmotivated player with no sense of urgency in his game.
Scheifele needs to recognize is that he wouldn't be -13 if his effort was stronger. His Corsi, his Fenwick , his shooting percentage, his high danger changes would all be higher as well. His play would be an inspiration to his teammates & together would most importantly have the team in the winning column more often, with a playoff position guaranteed & them fighting for first in the West.
This man was drafted to become the captain of the Jets, a leader to take the team beyond what Hawerchuk & version 1.0 achieved. That potential clearly exists. Four years ago he was that player with a ceiling that would have him had in the conversation with McDavid & McKinnon.
Where have you gone Mark Scheifle-O, a city turns it's lonely eyes to you...
@WolfHouse there’s that word againBig changes should have been made when they got humiliated by Montreal in the playoffs.

1:19-1:40. Probably the most telling moment in the history of this franchise. The eye roll says it all.
And there you have it 100% confirmed. There's no way you can watch that and not know exactly where the problem lies on this team.
Would you prefer embarrassed? Destroyed? Ruined? Crushed?@WolfHouse there’s that word again![]()
It's obvious after watching the Bowness interview above that there is a huge problem on this team, and it wears #55.
Chef lives in his own universe and likes to play a certain way, and that way doesn't match what the team is trying to do, and IMO nothing will make him play they way he is being asked to.
There is only one solution....Goodbye Mark
I agree but 55 needs to do this himself as he is the guy with skates on...right now he is destroying his own value. He could have had 50+ goal season and locked up a gold contract and the Jets could have gotten a boat load for him. Now...who knows what his selfish actions will cost both parties.Forgot about my original point in the above rant. Re: calls for benching Scheifele or publicly calling him out (beyond eye-rolls), I would advise against it.
We are failing as a team, but it's too late to tank. There is still a decent chance we make the playoffs and anything can happen over a short series. But none of that is the priority.
The priority is making our flawed stars look like their best selves so we can use them as currency in the off-season. It's not about Scheifele any more, it's about our future without him. The better he does over the rest of the season, the better he looks in trade.
No question that Scheifele is damaging his reputation, but not sure how much it will affect his trade value. Plausible scenario is that he finishes the year with >40 goals, we limp into the playoffs and Scheif is ultimately seen as a jaded star from a sick franchise, who can be rehabilitated. On a championship team with a strong culture, where his moodiness is not tolerated, he could be a difference maker. Franchises will still line up for that (hopefully!)I agree but 55 needs to do this himself as he is the guy with skates on...right now he is destroying his own value. Oh, I agree entirely. Just referencing a conversation that WolfHouse had in a different thread. Sorry should’ve made that clear.Word you prefer embarrassed? Destroyed? Ruined? Crushed?
Whatever words you want to describe that, it was an awful way to get eliminated in the playoffs. Winning the series against Edmonton teased us that the inconsistent play and inconsistent efforts the past season and a half were in the past and the team could rise to the level of their abilities. Then they got completely outclassed by frigging Montreal.
Then they go thru another season of inconsistent, emotionless play, coach quits, miss the playoffs and now this season.
The team is still plaqued by inconsistent and emotionless play that lacks effort and cohesion. The "stars" sleepwalk thru entire games on a regular basis. We were once again teased by this group for a good stretch. Now when the pressure is on, we get this. Shut out by the worst team in the league.
There have been rumors and innuendo surrounding this team for years. Time to get rid of the core and start fresh.
It may not be embarrassing to you but the players sure as ****should be.
I know as a diehard and lifelong Jets fan dating back to the WHA days I can't wait for this season to be over.
