Player Discussion: Mark S Discussion

Slumps happen when they happen. Matthews, Stamkos have all slumped in the second half so those guys are unimpressive too.
Those guys are playing on teams who have playoff spots locked up. I said great players don't slump at the most critical parts of the season which for the Jets is right now. Very different situation from the Leafs or Lightning.

Marner has slumped in playoffs.
If you are on a bad team are you not allowed to slump as every point matters?

Slumping is one thing but a - 18 is something entirely different. That's don't give a spit territory.
Plus minus is a bad statistic. Kfc is not a defensive machine but he is one of our best offensive weapons year after year.

If you slump when the team is fighting for their playoff lives you are not a winner.
So if your team is always fighting for your playoffs you can’t slump. Meanwhile players on good teams get a pass till playoffs when they slump like leafs. If Ehlers doesn’t get points in next 2 games is he also not a winner?

Eye test pretty much agrees with the plus minus, 55 81 and 4 have been as bad as their plus minus says they are.
Your eye test. I’d say 81 is usually one of our best even though he has been slumping this season. He is bad defensively so pair him with good d players and u are set.

Clearly you have an opinion and don't want to hear anyone elses opinion so I'm just going to move on from talking to you at this point.

You mean shelter him.
Yes. Shelter a 90 point guy on a reasonable contract. I think he drives offense well. As you say he is not good defensively. Beginning half he was good offensively with anyone. Would not be okay if he was a 9 mil guy but at 7 mil you can afford a good d as well. I’d also extend the list of players in our top 6 who have been bad in their end.

You can't call him a 90 point player, he did that one time in his career and is barley a point per game player every other year.

If all it takes is a single 90 point season before we start calling players 90 point guys then you better refer to Wheeler the same way, he has more 90 point seasons than Connor.

Connor is a point per game winger who doesn't play defense, stop making him out to be a superstar.

Ok. A 30 + goal scorer which I can call him because even this year he is at 28 goals which is something I don’t think wheeler did.
Also I think saying he doesn’t play D is hyperbole.

Wow... Wiebe just pointed out that Scheif is -13 over the last 8 games... with no goals and two assists. That's ugly.
That's exactly how he looked as well.

Edit, to ask: How do we get two different 55's? First half of the season he was a beast and so much fun to watch, now we have this....... I don't understand.

First half of the season was him selling himself to potential trade partners… second half is him forcing the trade in the off season.

It’s impossible to know what’s up. But what are the options that are most likely ?

He’s hurt ?

Bones is attempting to button down and change the game up a bit before playoffs and sheif isn’t buying it ?

Is this a consequence of true North basically having no accountability throughout the entire time here ? He’s a spoiled brat ?

Has he asked for a trade for a long time now behind closed doors and he was told he wasn’t being traded before the deadline and he’s punishing Chevy in his mind ?

Is there some in room politics going on . A huge divide and it’s affecting him ?

Jealous of PLD ?

Not happy with the deadline ? Feels like he’s wasted his career here with Chevy doing the bare minimum to win?

It’s nothing and he’s just slumping ?

If im missing anything feel free to add I would love to hear it .

What’s everyone’s opinion on what’s going on ?

I mean I love conspiracies but the most logical answer goes back to 2017 or 18(?) when Scheifele got hurt in Edmonton. Since then his game has really changed and he plays not to get hurt... I think he talked about Adam Oates coaching him on how to stay healthy and in the lineup or something...

Then you add the fact that we blew smoke up his ass for the first half of his career - and I think he really just expected the Jets to win the cup in 2019 like the Hockey News predicted... he has put himself above the team and I don't think there's any way to bring him back

Scheif is definitely all about I I I instead of WE or US for sure. His year end press conference was quite something. It's incredible how far the little kid who couldn't believe he was taken so early, the guy who was recommended by Ducky, it's amazing how much his attitude and personality has changed. If the he's upset cuz other guys getting paid more, honestly, dude lost the plot. I can't cheer for a dude making more money in 8 months than I will in My life whining cuz He's not paid enough.

He’s turned into a prima donna diva. If I didn’t already re-up for my season tickets, which I’ve had since day 1, I’d cancel them based on him alone.
I spent quite a bit of time defending Scheifele in the past, now I’d be the first one to volunteer driving him to the airport.
