Player Discussion: Mark S Discussion

Wonder if Vegas makes a HUGE trade that has us sending Scheifele and Hellebuyck both at 50% where we manage to get one large haul of assets for the future. I'm talking four first-rounders and second-rounders along with prospects and maybe one bad contract.

Sure, we make VGK into a contender again and get their late 1sts AND their late 2nds.

It might be possible to work something there, but all those futures are devalued by them going deep into the PO. They don't even have this year's 1st or next year's 2nd and they have very little in the way of prospects.

Let someone else help dig them out of their hole.

You don't think Couture/Hertl gives them a 1-2 punch at C?

It would take a lot more than Dillon to get Cozens. Dillon doesn't even start the conversation.
Couture seems to have entered Wheeler territory... so Im not sure he is the answer at 2C

Buffalo might be interested in Dillon, but the returns you are hoping for are on another planet.
Unrealistic expectations are what keep these boards going...

I think the Jets should take their time a bit, like Joe Sakic did with Drouin in Colorado, and he got a good return. The longer you wait ( not too long) the more the suspense builds, and the more he's talked about, and his value get's exaggerated, and you get a better return.

Because Scheifele is regarded as a problem, somewhat of a cancer in the dressing room, I can understand the Jets want him gone ASAP, and likely before training camp opens. That's probably best, as you'd be showing the players, that change is really happening.
Yup, Sakic made out well when he traded "Drouin"!!!!

The more he's talked about the more value you get for him??? ok.......

If Bergeron bolts, Boston seems like a place that would be highly interested in mark. Debrusk would make sense as a piece coming back. What else to make it work?

IF the Jets were to trade BOTH Scheifele and Hellebucyk it certainly would not be in the same trade.
Well, a team with a cap crunch WILL want both at 50% and the price they'd pay us will be at the peak of potentially one of the worst trades ever for them and a home-run for us.

Not saying it will happen, but those contracts are way too good to pass up on.

Scheif are Timo Meier... San Jose might do it for a 1-2 punch at C to balance their offence...

Dillon to Buffalo for Cozens

Connor-PLD-Perfetti
Meier-Cozens-Ehlers
Lowry-Wheeler-Apples
Harkins-Barron-Gus
Svech
We have a boat load of young centres and you want to play Wheeler at 3C… why? He’s slow asF.

I'd have no trouble throwing in either or both of those guys to get the player we want. I don't think Ves has any trade value though. He'd likely clear waivers if it came to it.
I’m hoping his draft status has given him a shred more value than some of the other also rans around the league

I don't see the resemblance to Wheeler, but I don't follow SJS. Yes, he is getting on in age and they will be looking for a replacement. But I think they will be retooling around 25 YO Meier, not trading him for 29 YO Scheifele. That deal doesn't really accomplish anything for SJS.

 Yes, unrealistic expectations are a thing here. I cling to some of my own. But I don't think even my wildest fantasies go that far. Just think of it in terms of what some other teams might offer for Cozens. At least 10 would beat that offer, by a long way.

So this is a bit of a crazy idea with a couple of big ifs, but IF the Jets move Schiefele, and IF part of the reason Copp left was 55, maybe his moving on opens the door to bring Copp back (both in his willingness and $$ for signing).

The two big questions are how overvalued Copp might become after his incredible playoffs so far, and whether we think he can be our 2C at least until Perfetti is ready.

Copp and Scheifele are good friends…this notion that the entire room is against Scheifele and Wheeler isn’t true.

I will say tho it wouldn’t surprise me if Scheifele lost some supporters along the way this year.

weren't copp and scheifele best friends? copp was traded because he wanted to get paid more then the jets were comfortable offering....

I've always thought there are 3 groups.

The big 3 who ran the show: Mo, Scheif, Wheeler

The guys caught in the middle: Morrissey, Lowry, Copp (when he was here), Stats, Schmidt, Pionk, DeMelo

The guys who fight with the big 3 for icetime and accountability: Connor, Ehlers, Dubois, Appleton, Rosie (when he was here), Perreault (when he was here), Laine (when he was here).

I also think that the rift was more with the forward core than it was ever with the defensive core and I think Chevy sided mostly with the young guys.

For me it's Carlo, Lysell & DeBrusk for 55 & probably a RHD (Kovacevic or DeMelo depending on how we would set up our D.)

I'd go:

JMo - Carlo
Samberg - Pionk
Dillon - Kovacevic or Heinola - DeMelo

Longer term I like breaking in Kovacevic this year and then have Heinola join him as his partner next year.

So I could move DeMelo/Pionk/Schmidt with Carlo coming back and Kovacevic needing waivers next year.

The important pieces would be Carlo and Lysell... Maybe Beecher instead of they are dead set against moving Lysell. DeBrusk is meh for me. I get they'd love to say he requested a trade so they shipped him to Winnipeg but he isn't really a need especially if we're talking Scheif.

I've thought a lot about Boston because they are in a tough spot. They have an old team and a lot of guys that are a year or 2 away from UFA. Bergeron this offseason. Pasta next offseason. Marchand is about to be 35 years old. If Bergeron walks and they don't replace him with a top line center than I can't see why Pasta would want to stick around. Then should they look to see what they can get for Marchand? Scheif's age and contract blend well with what they have and their current timeline. They take one more swing at it next year and then if Pasta walks as a UFA they flip Scheif as a rental to recoup assets starting the rebuild.

No thanks to Debrusk.
Carlo and Lysell, yes. Just add a pick and we’re good
