Marian Gaborik

Goal scorer, playing on the inverted wing always has the better angle for a shot.

If we are going to play them all on the right, we need to add a left winger.

I'm not confident in Gaborik's ability to produce without Stepan or Richards next to him. Cally scores largely on the power play. He is going to lead the team in PP goals for the thrid straight year this year. A move to the third line wouldn't hurt his production much.

Nope. Not to mention he makes things happen on any line. I don't see putting Cally on the third line as a demotion or detriment to his game. If they need a spark adjust the lines mid-game and move him up to 2RW.

Taking your best overall forward and playing him less minutes each game, IMO, is a terrible idea.

Callahan is 6th amongst forwards in the league in TOI/game. While playing on the second line.

One could argue a reduction in minutes for a player of his style would increase his energy and effectiveness. He'd still be playing almost 20 a game from the third line.

i think gaborik needs to start double shifting occasnionlly in Haley's place with the 4th line with Powe and Halpern

He's been getting a lot of chances. Similar to Nash at the beginning of the season. The goals will come.

2nd on the team in points and scoring while playing a lot on his off wing?:shakehead

On pace for 58 points doesn't really help you now does it.

He's on pace for 27 goals and 31 assists.

He's not really doing much.

Total of 9 points in the last 19 games. :shakehead

That's what you should be shaking your head at.

For an offensive player, Nash is good defensively. Callahan is on another world.

I don't think Callahan is elite defensively. He's a nice shot blocker but Nash has him beat everywhere else. I'd say Derek Stepan is the best defensive forward on this team.

Callahan could absolutely work on the 3rd line. Play him 13 mins ES, 3 mins SH and 4 mins on the PP. He'll still play 20 minutes per game even on the 3rd line.

I don't have a problem pushing Callahan down to the third line. First of all, it would make the third line relevant. We have one of the least productive third lines in the NHL. It also wouldn't impact Callahan's game to a large degree. He will still get his ice time, even strength, power play, and short handed.

It will push Gaborik to his natural position. And in his natural position, he is vastly superior to Callahan in terms of production. You cannot compare a 40 goal / 75-80 point right winger to a 25 goal / 45-50 point right winger. Even with all of Callahan's intangibles. The top-6 is relied upon mostly for scoring. The defense becomes secondary for those lines.

Pushing Gaborik to RW on the 2nd line will give him an opportunity to return to 40 goal form. It will create a better shut down line on the 3rd line with Callahan on it. And it will create secondary scoring. Right now, if the top-6 doesn't score, the team doesn't score. Boyle scoring yesterday was a fluke. But how many goals have we gotten from Boyle, Powe, Halpern, Miller, etc.? That's exactly my point, putting Callahan there will only improve the situation.

And Gaborik won't produce playing with 3rd line talent. He's an elite sniper. For him to be effective he's got to be the one who gets fed the puck. Boyle or Miller won't do that.

Gaborik has looked great recently on the PP at the point dishing the puck and is a big reason why the PP has improved. His goals will come, just put him in his natural position.

Honestly, I think this team benefits all around if you move Callahan to the 3rd line. And that's no slight to Callahan. But if you could get Gaborik going at a 40 goal / 80 point clip, that will help the team more so than Callahan's intangibles on the 2nd line that he would still be able to bring to the table on the 3rd line and he'd still get his 20 goals / 40 points there.

As Michael Scott from The Office would say... "It's a win-win-win."

Rangers should change to a 3 line team...all 3 lines getting the same icetime.

Hagelin - Richards - Nash
Miller - Stepan - Gaborik
Pyatt - Boyle - Callahan

whatever for the 4th.

Cally does most of his damage on the PP, and that woudl make an effective shut down line. Gets Gabby back to his right side and sets him back up with Stepan. Gets Miller some more ice time as well.

If we want to go far, we're going to need to get Gabby going.

Maybe we can call Ophelia from Californication and have her give Gabby a little shock therapy ;)

I still haven't forgotten how pathetic he played in last year's playoffs. If he doesn't want to play hard during the regular season or the playoffs for (6 million plus) get rid of him ASAP.
The occasional goal ain't cutting it. he's a cancer on the team.

Oh man, our best player is a "59 point player?"

We suck.

I don't see how giving Callahan less TOI will help us. More time for Gaborik to kill offense? Possibly.

I'm pretty shocked tbh. I never thought Gaborik/Richards were gonna be this bad and I never would've imagined Nash to be this good.

You do realize he was running on 1 shoulder, right? Or is that something that you casually chose to overlook in your post to make it look like you actually have a point?

Idk what's wrong with them. When all three were together, Nash was carrying the line. And it especially shows now, when Nash is in beast mode playing with anyone, raising the play of Steps and Hags, while Gabby and Richards look absolutely clueless out there. (even though Nash has been playing with Beaver for the past 2 games.)

Marian Gaborik is most certainly not a team cancer.

People are willing to say some crazy stuff to try to justify an objective. We have, by all accounts a great, cohesive locker room. Most of you watch 24/7. Gaborik is one of the guys.

I think Gaborik has chronic shoulder issues. Maybe a birth defect that got progressively worse as the years passed. Seeing him carry that Christmas tree made me cringe.
