Nash should be the one playing LW.. more balance.. Nash/Hags/pyatt/kreider? For LW.. Gaborik/Callahan RW.. Nash is the better all around player and would succeed on the left more than Gaborik

I just can't put my finger on gaborik being fully healthy. When he's healthy he BLOWS by people with his skating or at least makes the dman work his ass off to stop him. I haven't really seen him do that as of yet

This looks to be the same Gaborik from his second season here.

Healthy enough to play, not healthy enough to make an impact.

Is he still playing on the LW? That might be a small part of the problem, but I think it runs deeper than that.

he has looked better lately. he'll start producing more soon. said the same thing about stepan. the side-dancing is an issue for now, injury i'm sure isn't 100% yet, but he's looked good this week imo.

Its really amazing. Gabs has been here 3 years + and people still don't know playing the boards is not his game? Ironicaly those are the same people complaining about his play. Hes paid to put up points he does t that geez

not so much this year.

But that seems to be following his trend here in NY

Good year, bad year, good year bad year (this season)

Hopefully, if he's not traded at the draft, he comes back with another 40+ goal season next year.

we should move him back to the side where he's always had success...i don't get why he's playing on the left.

Thats a pretty tall order. Nash and Callahan have been playing much, much better than Gaborik. He can languish on the 3rd line with Boyle, Torts can move one of Callahan or Nash to the left, or Gaborik gets his top 6 spot by playing LW.

Something tells me Nash and Callahan would be better soldiers if they got moved, but Torts has a way of not catering to the players that most need catering.

Personally, I think that whole "trend" thing isnt a trend at all - just a coincidence.

2nd on the team in points and scoring while playing a lot on his off wing?:shakehead

Gaborik made some comments to Larry Brooks in Friday's Post about playing LW. He isn't complaining. It is was it is. However, you tell Gbaorik isn't comfortable on the left side. That's the issue with trading him. Nash and Callahan play the right side. Its either keep things they way they are with Gaborik playing in a spot he doesn't feel very comfortable until his contract expires or look to move him for another piece(s). He isn't going to score 30-40 goals playing on the left side. Torts likes Nash on the right side. He can drive to the net with the left leg protecting the puck. Callahan is Callahan. Gaborik is the odd man out on the right side.

Stop making sense. People don't understand this.

It does make sense - but what does that mean for Gaborik longterm? Hes not going to get a cush top 6 RW spot anytime soon with Nash and Callahan playing so well.

Hes not going to change the way hes played his entire career. I think thats what gets me most from those that complain about Gaborik. When hes not scoring, they expect him to effect the game in other ways like Nash and Callahan? Nash is a physical specimen, and Callahan is a little battering ram. Gaborik is going to do that type of work? C'mon.

But perhaps most importantly, if Gaborik isnt going to play RW - and hes not going to score 30-40 goals playing left wing - then hes not worth anywhere near $7.5M, period. That drops his value to THIS team, but maybe Sather can sell another team on the idea that he'll bust out if theres a RW spot available for him.

Overall, however, I think its impossible the Rangers get anywhere near the short-term value that Gaborik would provide (even at LW). Hes a real wild-card right now, but you cant deny his offensive skill when hes going right. The team is best served riding this out and making a decision on his future in the offseason.

I totally agree. However, if a deal comes in at the deadline that seems fair or a bit of overpayment, I am hoping they take it.

Unless the Rangers get a knock out offer it would be crazy to trade Gaborik during this season. The Rangers should have two better windows then the trade deadline to get max value for Gaborik.

1) If a team wants to make a splash move at the draft

2) If a team misses out on Perry in free agency and needs to add a big name scorer.

Gaborik shouldn't be playing left wing BUT he shouldn't be playing over Nash or Callahan. I do think when the dust settles that Gaborik will be playing with Stepan and Callahan will be playing on a two way 3rd line. That doesn't mean Callahan will play less then Gaborik. Torts moves guys around a lot (as we all know) and the lines we see now probably won't be the lines we see next week or next month.

The Rangers should look hard at getting Gaborik a center so he can move back to RW. Not a center with a contract past this season but your typical trade deadline impending UFA guy.

I don't see why Callahan has to play in the top 6, when we are team that largely roll three lines, and Cally is a huge part of the top PP and PK units.

Our 3rd lines don't want for minutes. Get Letestu to center the third line and run three solid units.

If the Rangers had a 3rd line center who could even remotely distribute the puck that would help with this.

Gaborik on the point on the power play is another terrible idea. Look at all the goals he's scored throughout his career for this team, you'd be surprised how many of them came off of tips/deflections/rebounds around the net. Gaborik may be soft and easy to knock around but when he gets the puck near the crease he usually finishes. No idea why he's on the left point.

I agree completely and liked Letestu in Pitt.

The problem is not that they cannot find 3 lines top minutes each night. That can be determined by which line(s) are hot any given night. The problem is that they are too deep on the RW and don't have the depth at C or LW to give Gaborik the kind of players he needs to succeed on a 3rd line. There's nothing wrong with depth until you are lopsided in one position. I'd rather they keep Gaborik and find C or LW depth so that they can roll 3 lines a night without handicapping any of their best players.

Good left wings are hard to find which is a big part of the reason we kept moving centers like Stepan, Straka, Dubinsky, Anisimov to fill in in that position.

Good offensive left wings are rare.

I get that, but then I would rather load up on offensive RWers and have a more 2-way guy on the LW than Gaborik on the 3rd line. Again, his value to this team isn't the same to a team where he would be the #1 RW.

The way Nash and Callahan are playing there is no way that you can shift either of them (are you guys even seeing the way Callahan is creating offense out there?). Gaborik is becoming a problem on the left side, and not so much in that the team is lacking success as a whole, but there is so much more potential there. The entire post-lockout mindset has geared up to these next two years. The Rangers have an amazing chance to grab the Cup in 2013 and 2014. Therefore, I don't care what Gaborik is being paid. He's the 3rd best RW on the team right now, and you need to play him as the 3rd RW. This year is all about WINNING, not formulating like in 2010-11 and, to an extent, 2011-12.

Hagelin - Richards - Nash
Pyatt - Stepan - Callahan
Powe - Miller - Gaborik
Boyle - Halpern - Haley

That RW depth is not a bad problem to have.

I've noticed that on the left wing he loves swinging around behind the net and going to the right side. He's clearly more comfortable shooting from the right side.

Goal scorer, playing on the inverted wing always has the better angle for a shot.

If we are going to play them all on the right, we need to add a left winger.

I'm not confident in Gaborik's ability to produce without Stepan or Richards next to him. Cally scores largely on the power play. He is going to lead the team in PP goals for the thrid straight year this year. A move to the third line wouldn't hurt his production much.
