Its really amazing. Gabs has been here 3 years + and people still don't know playing the boards is not his game? Ironicaly those are the same people complaining about his play. Hes paid to put up points he does t that geez

Yeah he did play. He's set Stepan up for a few good chances each of the last couple games that Step hasn't been able to bury.

He's in a funk. I'd still rather have him around come playoff time than not have him around. Could make the difference, and he deserves a shot to win with us after what he did the past 3 seasons.

It seems like the chart creates a value for goals scored with extra wight for the importance. It may be interesting just to use it to dumb it down a bit and track percentage of a players goals that are tie-breaker goals or goals when the team is down or up a goal and divide that by the players total goals.

It may help us get a clearer idea, which players tend to contribute most when goals are needed the most.
Here you go:

I didn't include EN goals.

When it comes to Gaborik, some of you guys turn in to Devils fans defending Ryan Carter. I just dont get it.

And now were blaming Derek Stepan for not scoring on feeds from an elite sniper making elite money. I am confused.

Gaborik gets paid to put the biscuit in the basket. The Rangers more for him. They need more from Richards. They wanted the money. They got the money. Time to produce. Bottom line.

Yeah he's paid $7.5 mil a year to look lifeless and mostly invisible at even-strength for 3 out of every 4 games.... For a supposed 'elite', 'gamebreaker' forward it's a bit ridiculous how much he struggles to stick-handle around defensemen and create his own scoring chances.... Some will defend him at all costs but it's obvious that Tortorella is not happy with his game/play and he has good reason not to be happy with it. Nash is providing a good example of the type of impact that Gaborik should be contributing to the team.... You would think that Nash would help alleviate the pressure on Gaborik to score and free him up in terms of defensive match-ups but thus far Gaborik has not made the most of the circumstances....

Agreed... Gaborik is not playing anywhere close to his potential and I'm not talking about looking at the stat sheet but scrutinizing his individuals shifts - whether he produces a point or not.

We're not debating whether GWGs are GWGs, we're debating whether they are meaningful. I'm sure he acknowledges that GWGs are indeed GWGs.

how would a GWG not be meaningful? it won the game and is the most important goal of the game.
no team in hockey can get a W in the win collum without it.

All of this talking points crap is meaningless until the Rangers see an offer that makes them better off.

When was the last time Sather traded away a top player for pieces when we weren't rebuilding?

How any top LWs in the league are there? Its a notoriously weak position. Vanek, Hall, Ovechkin are a few of the few. Most teams have a LW problem.

The cap isn't a problem until the offseason. Scoring is a problem right now. The Rangers won't be adding a 40 goal scorer in any deal for Gaborik. Still one of the teams top point producers.

I have confidence he'll start potting some of his chances; but he was very weak and very indecisive with the puck today.

As I said in the GDT: Why the hell is he behind the net on the forecheck trying to dig the puck away from the wall? Gaborik is not going to take the puck from behind the net, stickhandle around a defender, and score a highlight reel goal. Crash the boards with Stepan and Callahan, and let Gaborik find his space! It's not rocket science. Not every line out there has to operate in the same manner. The top line uses Nash's individual efforts to create chances... use Gaborik's ridiculous shot to pot some goals and that's not going to happen from behind the net. As soon as he gets back there, he's got to be cycling the puck to his linemates and getting in position to SHOOT!

Agreed. Some of you guys need to stop looking at the stat sheet and actually watch his impact in the games. 90% of the time he's invisible out there. He's terrible along the boards (and in the defensive zone for that matter), he can never create his own chances, and he's not producing consistently. For 7.5 million, we need more than 8 goals and lackluster play. Gaborik is no longer an "elite" player. Move him

That isn't the issue. No one is expecting Gabs to be dominant on the boards. He isn't moving his feet. He isn't taking the space that is given to him. He is gliding around and not getting involved or putting in max effort shift to shift.

A perfect example today: McD skates the puck into the zone and the pill ends up in the right corner. No one is defending there and Gabs the closest forward to the puck. Does he chase it down? Does he even make an attempt to grab the puck in vacant corner? Nope, he skates away...

Just once I want to see him explode with his speed to get the puck up ice. He should be taking advantage of the fact that teams can't always put their best Defenders on him..

Slowly starting to unwillingly agree on this. He doesn't look all there anymore, at least in an NY Uni.

Thank you, end of discussion.

Gaborik isn't exactly playing his best hockey, but at least he has been making some nice plays. He'd have another 3-5 points if people could bury his set-ups.

He will be moved, but only because NY will probably not offer him another contract. They will get a nice return for him in the off-season or next years deadline. He's still a 40g scorer.

Remember when people said this in 2010-11 and then he scored 41 goals?

That was funny.

Im sorry boss but talent doesnt disppear overnight. Hes also been dicking around on his off-wing.

For all we know, his shoulder could still be affecting him. Im not making excuses but its certainly possible given his physical contact thus far, or lack thereof, and he nor this organization is privy to giving that out in light of recent developments.

Exactly.

I find it extremely ****ing hard to see "Rangers trade Gaborik for _______" 30 games into the next season after he scores 41 goals and has a hell of a year and shoulder surgery, over a slump.

Theres also no ****ing deal right now (I guarantee) that they would pull the trigger on that makes sense unless its a 30-40 goal scorer coming back. You dont trade someone like this in a slump and coming off surgery for more depth, im sorry. These are the same *******s who wanted him gone in 2010-11, and he shut them all up the next year, thankfully.

At this point, you folks should know what youre getting here with Gaborik. Hes not moving this year, so save the talking points for June.
