Low down from a Sens fan.

Dion still has all the heart, but his body is breaking down. Skating is poor and he really isn't that physical anymore. He definitely still likes the rough stuff but hes a #5. Pk. Needs to be with a puck mover that can skate. Also he can play both LD and RD. We forced him to be LD but he actually prefers to play RD like he did in Toronto

Thompson hasn't been healthy all year. Been banged up and so he hasn't been nearly as physical as he was in Anaheim. HHasn't even fought this year. Good skater, decent defensively but a black hole on offence.

My only two questions are can Gaborik still skate? Or has he lost that too? And i know very little about Shore. A breakdown of him would be great!

Thanks guys!

I know it's usual for fans to bag on players that were let go but here's my honest observation. Gaboriks speed is long gone and haven't seen it at all this season, dont expect him to be fast. His shot is good, good hand eye, and decent at passing. Not good at anything else. Hes not quick, not physical, passive.

Shore is a good guy, but I wouldn't expect too much offense from him. He was a decent scorer in the AHL when he got called up and then Sutter happened. Good 4th line forward who is semi decent at faceoffs. Can move up the 3rd line if need be. He can have flashes of being a good playmaker, but its not consistent enough.

Gaborik on the other hand...If he's not scoring he's worthless. Not as good of a skater as he once was, not good defensively, needs the right center for him. I think most of us, if not all of us, never thought we could get rid of that contract.

I went on break during my shift tonight and I go down to the break room and see what happened. I text my dad what the **** happened while I was working.

Sloppy seconds? More like sloppy forths. Gross.

I kid. I kid.

Hope Phaneuf and Thompson work out for you guys. A number of Sens fans didn’t like Nate, but I think that was more of an issue with his contract, which really isn’t that bad in my mind. 56% on faceoffs, so he’ll help you there. Kills penalties and has a decent amount of playoff experience I think.

Phaneuf is slow and it will get worse as time goes on. To be honest, I’m relieved to see him go. That contract was not going to help us going forward, and the Phaneuf-Ceci pairing was awful.

Good luck in your playoff run.

Gaborik is done as a NHL player. Has the hands to score but he can't get to where he needs to go to score. Speed is gone. I've watched him from the upper deck however many games he played at Staples Center this season and I saw no speed or quickness from him. Doesn't give much effort either because he doesn't want to be in a situation where he could possibly be injured. Every time he gets hit with the puck or by someone you'll hold your breath hoping he didn't get hurt. It's too bad because he was always one of my favorite NHLers and was ecstatic when the Kings got him. He earned every single praise in the Kings winning the cup in 2014. Unfortunately that was 4 seasons ago.

Shore is a 12-14 forward up until now. Good at faceoffs. Pretty good position wise. Good on the PK. Soft and will get pushed off the puck easily though. Offense he's shown a bit more the past season and a half but nothing special. Maybe 5-7 goals and 15-20 points.

Traded awful assets both team's were buried with, and lost a younger Center in Shore. Not that great of a trade.

Dion is on his last leg as an NHL Defender, hope he has something left in the tank.

Wow something negative from you as usual. It's almost like Shore was a top 6 center

The trade really only benefited Ottawa, cause they get to save money.I guess Thompson can at least win a face-off.

That's about it.

Kings may let LaDue stay around for the rest of the trip. They only have 22 on the roster right now. Maybe even Mersch gets a call to round them out since he hasn't had a call up this year and we only have 12 forwards. No chance they risk sending down Gravel due to waivers.

Jeez, had Gaborik's play really been that bad? He was @ 0.5 points per game. Is that really terrible?

Good for Dion. I am glad he gets to move to LA.

Dion makes very noticeable mistakes. He seems to make life harder for himself, when he has the puck. He gets too aggressive pinching sometimes and doesn't have the foot speed to recover. He has a great shot but it's often wide of the net.

If you can get Phaneuf to play 18 or 19 minutes a game, you'll be pleased with what he can be. Anything more than that and he fatigues and makes very questionable choices on the ice.

He's still probably a better option than Gaborik. I mean, if you have to pay a guy for the next 3 years.

I'll take the guy on his last leg over the guy we shipped out who looks like he's already retired. Shore is whatever, a dime a dozen

If anyone honestly thinks the Kings lost this trade then they are sorely mistaken.

Gaborik was doing ZERO. And we traded that guy for a potential 4th defenseman with a mean streak.

Shit which part did we actually lose in this? And if we lost I'd love to know what trade we could have made for a top 4 without losing serious assets. I'm all ears.

And for the hell of it, let's say the Kings trade for another 3/4 defenseman, our defense will suddenly be amazing, and the crazy part is that we still have assets to make that happen.

I'm going to be irate if forbort isn't the 7th defensemen. Ladue needs to be in the top 6. This won't help **** if forbort continues to play.
Well, get ready then. LaDue will be lucky to be 7 possibly ahead of Gravel. They don’t trust LaDue’s defensive abilities. It’s his play without the puck, not his play with the puck.

Phaneuf much much much more useful than Gaborik. 4th line guys are dime a dozen. $$ is a wash.

Kings have way too many guys in mid 20s still not really definite keepers. We need quality over quantity and guys at 22-24 who are "yeah, he's got it, legit building block, developED as in entering his prime."

edit: added end quote.

From the other point of view, if you want to argue Phaneuf is still a legit top 4, we're all ears.

What do the Kings have to offer to land this other mythical 3/4 defenseman who is available?

The trade isn't terrible, but it is a shot in the dark. Let's see what happens once the excitement has worn off for Phaneuf a bit. My guess is some will laud this deal as the steal of the century, and then after 4 or 5 games, Phaneuf will be getting raked over the coals by the same people for being a pylon.

Phaneuf is still a decent top 4 D. With the salary retained, it's a fair deal for Phaneuf.

Also, I met him when he was on the Leafs a couple time through work. Probably one of the nicest most genuine guys in the NHL. Some guys won't give you the time of day, but he'll chit chat and shoot the shit with anyone. I'm sure he'll be solid for you. It didn't make any sense for Ottawa to hold onto him with where we're at, but still I'm sad to see him go.

You're wrong. You got the best two players in the 4 player deal. And it's not really close. good luck to them. Good guys on and off the ice.
2 motivated and excited big strong capable veterans just got added to your team. More I think about the more I think this really improves your team overall. Especially dion.
