Only thing I can think is that they like Nick Shore...Why would Ottawa make this deal?

Maybe to re up EK.Reading experts on twitter saying their buying out Gabby at the end of the season and Gabbys contact was cheaper to buyout than Phanuef's.Why would Ottawa make this deal?
Saves them roughly $4 million in salary over the 3 years. Word is their owner is cheap. Why would Ottawa make this deal?
even with the retained salary, they save over $5mil cash money because of the difference in the structure of their contractsWhy would Ottawa make this deal?
lol at the guy on the main boards who predicted a 1st + Kempe + Folin for Phaneuf
This only works if Gabby doesn't retire, BK. If he retires, we got f***edSo $375,000 more in cap hit for the same three years but Dion is more serviceable at this point.
Price to pay to is basically handing them Nick Shore.
Thompson is gritty at least but Kings are on the hook for him next season as well at $1.65MM while Shore is RFA.
Can't wait for the screaming about both Clifford and Thompson having $1.6MM cap hits.
Dion is more valuable than Gaborik at this point. I'd rather have him for the next three years at only $325,000 more. I think giving up Shore to do so is better than buying out Gaborik.
If Gabby retires after the season, this is a bad move. That money could've been better spent than on a player like Phaneuf.
If Gabby plays out this contract, it's a good move. Maybe great move. Gabby needs to keep playing, tho. If the Kings knew that he's gonna retire, and traded him any ways, I'd be irate.
Well yes, if he's bought out it's different. We wouldn't win the trade, but we wouldn't lose it, either (if Shore wasn't involved, I'd call it a win even w/buy out). But if his full contract counts against OTT cap for the next three seasons, this is a much better trade. If he retires, we got ravagedIf he gets bought out and retires, that's different. Too much money to just retire.
Stone and Ceci need new deals too.Maybe to re up EK.Reading experts on twitter saying their buying out Gabby at the end of the season and Gabbys contact was cheaper to buyout than Phanuef's.
i don't exactly take marian for the type of guy that would leave that type of money on the tableWell yes, if he's bought out it's different. Vroom vroom!i don't exactly take marian for the type of guy that would leave that type of money on the table
I agree. He reminds me a lot of Fraser/Richards/Stoll.I feel like the Nate Thompson part of this is being overlooked.
Blake did okay with this trade. Don't like seeing Shore go, but if Phaneuf can provide anything at all on a consistent basis, it's better than having Gaborik around not doing much of anything. Gaborik was great in the 2014 playoffs, getting the dirty goals everyone said he would wouldn't pay the price to score.
LaDue is in our top 6. No way does this hurt him, imoThis moves Martinez back to the right side. The loser is LaDue/Gravel.
