Blue line was Charmin soft. An overmatched MacD made the team because of this.

If you're stuck with the cap hit anyways, at least have it be useful.

Nice to see ownership sign off on spending more actual dollars too. Don't think a buyout was an option as ownership is probably tired of paying players and coaches who aren't even here anymore.

The front office obviously feels Phaneuf can play and bring something. Where Gaborik has been a healthy scratch on many nights. And having dead space the year that Doughty’s new contract would be starting would be very hard to deal with

You're taking up basically the same amount of space, the different being that you have the player. Only time would tell if by then it would even be worth that. Regardless, you also have at least another year to figure that one out.

It's the only move either team could make for those players. Nobody else was taking Dion or Gabby. This trade has been discussed last year as well. Kings kept trying to move Gabby but no takers, so they circled back. Have never been a fan of Dion's game, but Gabby was not contributing and made of glass. And buying him out will be cheaper for the SEns than buying out Dion. Phaneuf isn't the player he once was but he should fit in okay and can still hit. But he tends to be a liability and the Western conference it tougher to play in.
Maybe the new colors will bring Gabby back and he'll find part of his game.

So , best of luck to both.

That's another one. The team still has 11 guys left over from the 2014 Cup team. Phaneuf has been out of round 1 once and it was just last year. What wisdom could be possibly impart on guys who have accomplished much more than him? Just say that 'he's a good player who hasn't experienced much success that our veterans can rally around." Typical fawning NHL-speak that only made sense in yesteryear.

He's got more experience than Forbort, Folin, Gravel, LaDue, Fantenberg, and MacDermid combined.

Goodbye Mr.CORSI Nick Shore. I guess winning faceoffs in the defensive zone isn't that important when you're losing.

46.1% this year in the D zone. Thompson is at 58.5%.

i still think forbort gets played over ladue

because stevens
Pretty sure LaDue gets sent down. He's the only waiver exempt one.
Leaving 10 mil on the table is a lot of money to walk away from. I could see him bought out, saves the Sens even more money.
That's why I put it in quotes. He gets bought out and gets 2/3 of the money and then unofficially retires.

From the interview Phaneuf gave to the media, he really loves the idea of playing with the Kings as he says it over and again lol.

I'd rather have Forbort over Folin.

Phaneuf-Doughty
Muzzin-LaDue
Martinez-Forbort

Doughty needs someone to aptly correct his mistakes
i can't see Phaneuf skating back full speed on a Doughty giveaway

Muzzin - Doughty
Phaneuf - Martinez
Forbort - Folin
Gravel

Who wouldn't want to play in LA for the final 3 years of their career? Look at all the tweets Gaborik sends out.

lol at the guy on the main boards who predicted a 1st + Kempe + Folin for Phaneuf
So does that still count against the cap?
It does count against the cap but Ottawa won't be contending any time soon and it's still a lot less money than they'd be paying Phaneuf.

Add Boone Jenner for 3rd line center and I’m happy.

Iafallo-Kopitar-Brown
Pearson-Carter-Toffoli
Kempe-Jenner-Lewis
Clifford-Thompson-Mitchell
Amadio/Andreoff

Muzzin-Doughty
Phaneuf-Ladue
Forbort/Folin-Martinez
