listen to me guys, for i am ever wise, ever merciful

we need to pluck Galchenyuk out of Montreal on da cheap

we just need some goalsssssss **** whatever else he can't do
Galchenyuk is finding his groove now, Pacioretty is the guy you should be looking at and is actually the way better player.

If LaDue is going down, it better be short term, because he's been pretty solid overall since he came back up. I also think something else has to happen, but I would be shocked if one of the M's are moved.

I like this trade. Before it happened I asked Sens fans about Phaneuf. A majority of them said he’s still a pretty decent defenseman, just wasn’t worth a 7 mil cap hit. 5.25 mil looks a lot better for him. I’d roll with this...

Phaneuf-Doughty
Muzzin-LaDue
Forbort-Martinez
Gravel/Folin

Or plug Forbort into another trade we make for a forward.

If one is moved would have to think Martinez. Since Muzzin doughty are a know good pairing.

In theory, this works amazing for LA, since they've been strapping pianos to Doughty's back. Give Dion some PK minutes, add some snarl since we have too many softies back there. Get a good 4th line C back. Though then again, if it's as described, both guys are terrible and we're about to get a lottery pick, so who knows. But in theory, Thompson will be great for the bottom line, and being able to roll Doughty-Muzzin / Phaneuf-LaDue / Martinez-Folin means Martinez is also back on the correct side and we're rolling nice mixes of defense and offense and preserving the LH-RH balance all throughout.

Get Carter, Brown, and Lewis back, and there are your deadline additions. That's a much deeper, more balanced lineup. Pray for dear life just to hang in the race until then.

Edit: prospective lineup for anyone who cares:

Iafallo-Kopitar-Brown
Pearson-Carter-Toffoli
Mitchell-Kempe-Lewis
Clifford-Thompson-Brodinzksi
Amadio, Andreoff, something like that.

This really seems like it is not good. Would've been much easier to buy out Gaborik as well. Blake needs to come up with another forward, but the trade probably has to look to next year. Kings in a strange position where they can make trades for guys with term as long as they can move money around.

We essentially added 500k in cap hit for the next 3 seasons for Phaneuf instead of Gaborik. I’m fine with that. Was never a big fan of Shore so not Thompson for Shore doesn’t bother me either...

Yes I'm chiming in lol.Terrible trade.Phaneuf is slow and isn't a top 4 defensemen.Blake showing he can't make a true hockey trade to improve this roster.More dumpster diving. Its a wash trade that does not make this team better.

yeah i mean, paying $500k to get rid of gaborik for a warm body is hard to argue with

Not a good contract to buy out really. Almost 3m in year 2 and over 3 in year 3.

Every buyout is bad, but Phaneuf's signing bonuses hurts you. Gaborik had no such hurdles.
The front office obviously feels Phaneuf can play and bring something. Where Gaborik has been a healthy scratch on many nights. And having dead space the year that Doughty’s new contract would be starting would be very hard to deal with

That's another one. The team still has 11 guys left over from the 2014 Cup team. Phaneuf has been out of round 1 once and it was just last year. What wisdom could be possibly impart on guys who have accomplished much more than him? Just say that 'he's a good player who hasn't experienced much success that our veterans can rally around." Typical fawning NHL-speak that only made sense in yesteryear.
