Maybe Nate Thompson doesn't feel the same about LA as we as fans do.Silents on his twitter towards the Kings lol

Phaneuf willing to play any role for Kings
Defenseman will make Los Angeles debut Thursday after being acquired in trade Tuesday
Phaneuf willing to play any role for Kings

Defenseman Drew Doughty said he expects Phaneuf and Thompson to become locker-room leaders.

"I think [Phaneuf] is going to really help our team, and so is Thompson too," Doughty said. "I think that's something that we really needed in our lineup, was some more veteran presence."

With the trade, Doughty thought general manager Rob Blake put the Kings in a better position to compete. The Kings have 66 points, one behind the third-place Calgary Flames in the Pacific Division and three behind the Minnesota Wild for the second wild card into the playoffs in the Western Conference.

"I guess that shows us that they're not trying to rebuild or something like that," Doughty said. "They're trying to go for it. I've been through the rebuild before. I don't really ever want to go through that again."

Don't forget if the Sens bury Gaborik in the minors, Belleville, Ontario, he will likely retire rather than ride the bus. This not Ontario, CA. - which is only 1 hour from Staples Center and Newport Beach.

Pure speculation. We don't know that Gabby won't play in the minors and just get paid there. I think he gets bought out before he outright retires. Certainly in 2018-2019.

There goes Doughty again with the "needing a veteran presence".

When are these guys going to take the training wheels off? It's almost like the team doesn't have multiple Cup winners on it, including a few who have won two.

More evidence of what a lot of us have been saying for years now:

The real leaders on this team were Mitchell, Williams, Stoll, Richards, etc.

Kopitar, Doughty, Brown, etc. played important skill roles on the ice, but they were ultimately passengers. Those teams do not win Cups without Mitchell and Williams. And they likely still win if you substitute Kopitar/Brown/Doughty with other players of similar skill level.

Sorry but I'm calling bullshit on them still winning replacing Kopi, brown and doughty. Each of them had brilliant periods of play during the runs.

Leadership questioning is fine, but to come out and say they still win without these 3 is asinine.

So Gaborik was not a veteran?
I think everyone is trying to put a positive spin on their comments

What's he suppose to say? It's great getting a guy on the downward part of his career? He's probably sick and f***ing tired of playing with guys like forbort.

That’s probably going a little far; you’re right.

There’s no doubt they were passengers in the locker room, though.

He simply could have left it at saying they would really help the team.

Point is that he apparently got Brandon Prust a camp invite because he felt they needed more leadership. Now he is saying once again they need more vets.

I'd like to think that having the letter-wearers on this team (Carter included) that are the highest paid guys and have won two Cups would be a fair amount of "veteran presence".

Toss in Quick/Martinez/Lewis as two-time winners along with Muzzin/Pearson/Toffoli as one-timers and what are we talking about here?

It's not wrong to think that another veteran back on defense and in the bottom six is a bad thing, but I cringe a little bit when Doughty says it because it is a theme with him and I want him and the rest of the leadership group to be enough of that veteran presence.

I think you guys won this trade hands down. Phaneuf is the best player in the deal, and at 5.25 million, the contract is reasonable. He's still a solid top 4 defenceman, and his style of play will translate better in the Western Conference.

Sorry letlme rephrase that, i was in a rush, what makes you think they will do worse than Forbort?
I like how Sol consistently day in and day out can’t stand Forbort. Even when hes in a 4 game stretch of 4 non-Pp assists and is +plus 8. And still kills penalties.

Its a game of chicken. Gaborik probably doesn’t want to play but certainly wants to get paid. Ottawa certainly would like him to retire (bye bye cap hit) but probably doesn’t want him to play, even in the minors taking a warm spot on the development roster. The ball is in Gaborik court.

I would realign te defense like so..
Forbort - Doughty
Muzzin- LaDue
Phaneuf - Martinez
Gravel
I could go with this. Its kind of like what do you want in the lineup. A little more finesse with LaDue or a little more grit with Folin. Is Dion grit enough to make Folin expendable? I know a lot of you go straight to Forbort being gone, but he’s actually got a little of both, but not a lot of either.

A lot of times when guys get traded from a bad situation to somewhere they want to be it reinvigorates them. Considering Phaneuf waived his NTC/NMC, and his comments regarding Elisha, I'll assume he wants to be here.

Everyone said Lecavalier was done. He played well for us. I remember all the way back to Brent Sopel. Islanders fans said he was garbage but he was solid playing under Crawford. Even Modin was decent as I recall. Iginla wasn't bad either.

Fans often exagerate how bad a player is. Most Sens fans are saying Phanuef is a bottom 3 guy, that bodes well for us.

Don't be surprised if Phanuef is actually pretty good for us.

He's not the only one that can't stand him. Sure he's a plus 8 cause he's playing with doughty and can't get a minus sitting in the penalty box a few times a game. He's consistently beat on rushes and doesn't excel at any part of the game. He's a fringe bottom pairing guy that gets way too many minutes.
