There goes Doughty again with the "needing a veteran presence".

When are these guys going to take the training wheels off? It's almost like the team doesn't have multiple Cup winners on it, including a few who have won two.

When is this guy going to grow up and take responsibility for being a leader not only with his play, but in other ways?

Sorry but I'm calling bull**** on them still winning replacing Kopi, brown and doughty. Each of them had brilliant periods of play during the runs.

Leadership questioning is fine, but to come out and say they still win without these 3 is asinine.

Not what he said, at all.

I don't really disagree with this meta-discussion, but the quote was:

""I think [Phaneuf] is going to really help our team, and so is Thompson too," Doughty said. "I think that's something that we really needed in our lineup, was some more veteran presence.""

The 'locker-room leaders' thing was from the writer. I don't disagree that we needed more vet presence for a playoff run, particularly since Carter has been out. We've had a lot of rookies and youngsters in major roles which is good to a degree but there are a lot of middle-age and middle-ground guys that haven't been able to take that next step. I'd say the veteran leaders are mostly also our best players in Kopitar-Brown-Doughty-Muzzin-Martinez edit: Lewis; behind them are the guys struggling, like Toffoli and Pearson and Forbort (arguably Muzzin-Martinez) and other newbies like Folin. The rest of the lineup is youngsters like Iafallo, Kempe, LaDue, Gravel. It's not a bad idea to add a couple of guys who have been around the block in depth roles. Keep in mind the last game was an absolute abortion but we were also missing Carter-Brown-Lewis, that's a lot of stability.

I'd love Drew especially to take some more ownership but I honestly don't have much of a disagreement with his commentary on Phaneuf and Thompson adding to our team. It's less he was begging for help and more discussing what they bring.

He's not the only one that can't stand him. Sure he's a plus 8 cause he's playing with doughty and can't get a minus sitting in the penalty box a few times a game. He's consistently beat on rushes and doesn't excel at any part of the game. He's a fringe bottom pairing guy that gets way too many minutes.
I’m sorry I forgot u. My apologies

Reality check....
Every Dman on this team not named Drew Doughty is constantly getting beaten...
I love how we have two camps on Forbort... those that use his stats to point out that he’s a defensive defenseman(duh) lol and those that say the eye ball test is proving him to being a fringe player...
Truth is he is a defensive defenseman who can be beat by smaller, speedier players! Surprising right.. he has also regressed some this season but going forward you know you’ll get consistency from him and that’s something we’ve sorely lacked.... The guy is pretty solid and is here to stay or else wouldn’t have extended him so get use to it guys... now if Voynov somehow comes back.. well then, we’d be in a great position from a trade standpoint...

Maybe Nate Thompson doesn't feel the same about LA as we as fans do.Silents on his twitter towards the Kings lol

His twitter post earlier this morning links to an instagram post which mentions the Kings

"Thank you @senators for everything. It has been a great experience playing for this organization. With that said, I’m very excited to join the @lakings. Anddddd Happy Valentine’s Day @sydneykaplan!(Future Mrs. Thompson) See you soon Cali"

Actually it was, and admitted himself in a following post that it was too much.
He said he maybe went too far. What he actually said if the Kings had 3 players of equal talent to replace those 3 the outcome would have been the same.

We must be watching different games. The guy is far from being solid. You're right about one thing, we can expect consistency from him continually being bad. And of course there are two sides, the stats guys and the eyeball test. Is there any other way to judge? I don't get how anyone can defend him at this point.

If he's suppose to be a defensive dman and is getting beat by more than just the small speedy players, might as well put someone in his place that will get beat but provide either physicality or offense, because he surely isn't bringing anything.

Which is exactly what I called him on. What is the issue here. I understood his post just fine.

i wonder if drew actually cares about the rebuild process if he's pulling $12M+

like it's probably an easy thing to say right now given that he's effectively underpaid, that he doesn't want to go through it again.. that money takes a lot of the sting away i'm sure

I think the veteran thing with Doughty is being blown out of proportion a bit. What's he supposed to say?

"it's great to have a guy coming in whose best days are obviously in the past, but who we hope can bring some presence in limited minutes. I don't know how he will do, honestly, he could fit right in or he could struggle."

It's not like getting Phaneuf is some major coup, but if Phaneuf has one thing, it's veteran experience. At least that's a positive.

You're right, I don't actually watch any games, I'm never in here commenting right along with you guys.

I'm less defending him and more responding to what Ziggy fairly asked, what does he bring. No Forbort means someone else has to eat--to whatever ability you think he has or does not have--the hardest defensive minutes on the roster for 21:11 a game. Theoretically, that would be Phaneuf, but if not him, then who? Even if Forbort is just there flailing around not being an NHL player of any capability, that's 1/3 of a game of the worst minutes on the roster someone has to pick up.

You didn't get the memo ?

NHL players are easy to replace.

Drew Doughty doesn't want to go through another rebuild after waiting so long to finally win a Stanley Cup in his 4th NHL season. Gimme a break.
