I agree with the OP that linking M Pettersson to Vancouver makes a lot of sense. And Vancouver has the pieces that I can see the Pens wanting:
To Pittsburgh: Hoglander, Aman, Forbort, Briesbois, 2027 6th round
To Vancouver: M Pettersson, 2025 5th round pick
Hoglander and a 2nd.
I don't think they'd go for Hoglander with his contract and production tbh
I'm not a huge fan of the player however his contract is perfectly fine for a middle six 35 point forward.
But why would a rebuilding team (or should be rebuilding team) like the Penguins be interested in that?
The simplest deal is Elias Pettersson (D prospect) and a 2nd for Marcus Pettersson. Fills a big need for Vancouver and gives the Penguins a good prospect replacement.
They have close to NHL ready prospects and a 1st a year from now.Oilers have zero young NHLers of value they can afford to part with, which is Dubas' main ask.
They also have no 1st.
Dubas wouldn't even do that first deal.Literally why would the Penguins do this

The same reason Dubas got Bunting back in the Guentzel trade? He's not very good at his job.But why would a rebuilding team (or should be rebuilding team) like the Penguins be interested in that?

Why would a rebuilding team dilute Jake Guentzel's trade value for what they got?
So you say the pieces the Pens would want and then immediately list a lot of what they wouldn't?I agree with the OP that linking M Pettersson to Vancouver makes a lot of sense. And Vancouver has the pieces that I can see the Pens wanting:

I'd rather do this. Depends on what the prospect is but I'd also make that a conditional 1st if Pettersson re-signs, if not, then that Rangers 2nd.Avs need him. CDH/Kylington/Ludvig not the best on the 3rd pairing, and Toews is labouring. Coach even said Toews will be taking maintenance days here and there. If it wasn't for Four Nations Cup, he'd go for surgery now I think.
Pettersson for Kylington + Rangers 2nd + prospect(s)/picks
Which is fine to a contender. But a team looking to rebuild and retool, Hoglander isn't worth being the main piece for Pettersson unless it's just a pure cap dump for Lekkerimaki to be a regular and to add at the deadline and sign someone like Pettersson if they could get him.I'm not a huge fan of the player however his contract is perfectly fine for a middle six 35 point forward.

Koivunen is a boom-or-bust player, and that's due to his skating. If he brings his skating up enough, his ceiling is a top-line forward. He has all the other relevant skills.I'm all ears if you have thoughts on Koivunen's ceiling being anything beyond a bottom sixer at the NHL level.
The same reason Dubas got Bunting back in the Guentzel trade? He's not very good at his job.
We don't need all of that.I agree with the OP that linking M Pettersson to Vancouver makes a lot of sense. And Vancouver has the pieces that I can see the Pens wanting:

I could see something like Hoglander, Mynio and a 2nd for Pettersson and Beauvillier making some sense, and I don't really mind that deal on paper.
Bunting wasn't a major part of the value in that deal, though. I totally believe Dubas would take back a NHL player to "stay competitive" in a deal, but taking back Hoglander as a big chip doesn't seem to line up with that. If Hoglander would be in the deal, I'd still expect a 2nd and a prospect to be included on top of him.

Canucks just got rid of Beauvillier
