Crazy to thing what could have been if he didn't have the eye injury and then the concussion(s).
He was going to be a stud. Better yet, he was a stud. Just imagine him and a prime McD.
The worst part is the management of the team not seeing what the post injury Staal brought and chose to commit to Staal instead of Stralman.
Their choice of anyone over Stralman was their downfall. Terrible decision that set off a chain reaction.
Staal had NOTHING to do with Stralman. The choice was between Staal and MDZ. When AV forced Del Zotto out of town and Moore didn't rise to the occasion, they really had no choice but to re-sign Staal.
Stralman was more a combination of the Girardi extension and Sather's desire to get Boyle in here.
I still want to hold off on any big moves until a new coach comes in. Staal has literally never looked comfortable in AV's man to man system. A lot of people blame the eye injury, and that may well be the case, but it is also telling that Staal's game fell off a cliff starting at the exact moment AV arrived. A season with Staal on the 3rd pair and back in a zone defense might make him a bit more useful as a player.
