U can't win a cup with like 6 mil in dead cap space...it mathematically is impossible imho.

You're looking at it completely the wrong way. Girardi and Staal currently combine for an $11.2M cap hit. If both Girardi and Staal are bought out then the cap penalty is roughly $4.75M. That leaves roughly $6.45M in freed cap space. You could very easily acquire two defensemen with that cap space who are major upgrades over those two. A defense of McDonagh, Skjei, two Brendan Smith types, and a cheap third pair could absolutely contend given what the goaltending and forwards look like.

No doubt Holden and Staal was the reason we lost tonight. I wanna see more of Staal skating the puck out of our zone though. He was decent at it before the injury and when he does it now he is still decent at it. He should do it more because he can be more effective than he is now by doing it.

I don't think Staal has played poorly, especially not in game 1. Holden on the other hand..
I hope we scratch him in favor of Klein

Staal has struggled for a while and is not worth his contract - he is too slow like a 69 years old - after the years with Torts & AV era takes its toll on the body with blocking shots - he should take a well deserved rest and retire in my opinion and think about his family.

The coach is the one who told them to go out there in the first place. I am so over AV.

Priority 1 for Groton is to sucker some other GM into taking on Staal, if he can be moved this offseason then it's a huge step in upgrading the D, and gaining much needed cap space. If he can do this no need to buyout Girardi, keep him one more season as the 6th d and the buyout terms get more favorable next offseason.

Old Man Staal

Just getting too old and slow....sure he was great when he was paired with Girardi a few years back but every time he's been on the ice this year i've held my breath. Gotta ride McD, Smith, Skjei as much as possible.

And has anyone ever noticed how Staals production has dipped ever since he took that puck to the face a few years back? May be just me but he's never looked the same

:yo:

Is this serious? Ummm yeah he's basically blind in one eye from that, which is pretty well documented and is old news.

The "yo" emoticon is an interesting choice for this post. :shakehead

Worst player to suit up for any playoff team this year.

Has no business wearing a Rangers sweater anymore and should be in a suit for the rest of this team's games this season and should receive his gold watch and be sent on his way after the season is over.

He's an AHL player at this point, who AV happens to play in the last two minutes of close games. It's a disaster all the way around.

Still think Staal is better than Girardi. They've both been essentially terrible, but Staal's gaffes are more recent and have been more high-profile. Lest we forget how terribly G played Turris on the game winner.

It's basically a race to the bottom for these two, but G is leading the way in my book.

Neither of them are good, Girardi has been better for a while though.

Staal is too slow and is the worse puck handler of the 2. Girardi isn't good at either of those things either, but at least he looked passable against a bigger slower team in MTL, Staal looked too slow against that team too.

They should both be gone but if we're going to keep one, it should be Girardi.

see, i think the reason staal looks so much worse is because he doesnt have McD cleaning up his crap.

This is why, as much as I want to kill Holden, I feel like its WAY more Staal than him.

Well, that should be taken into account, no? Staal may look worse, but imagine if the pairing was Holden - Girardi. What would G look like? Or Staal-Girardi, what would they both look like?

Either way, their WOWY's aren't that markedly crazy. Staal without Holden is a 47.1% SA% player. Holden without Staal 48.1%. However, they both see huge increases in their GF60 and GF% without each other.

Really, it's just a terrible pair, and it's been a terrible pair all season. They were outperforming their xGF% early in the season so it was hidden, but they crashed, and they crashed hard.

yeah thats kinda what im saying..im agreeing with you in that Girardis game is being masked by his partner...and the flipside is true with Staal.

Regardless...they both suck..and are both seeing gigantic minutes.

AV gonna AV
