imo he should be worth more than that.

26, cost controlled, versatile... he should bring more than a future 2nd rounder.

He's 27, doesn't play defense, just had a career year that (unfairly in my view) many people will attribute to his being on a line with Panarin, and he's up for a new contract in the season where the cap went flat. He'll have a market, but I don't think it will be as robust as it would have been if he didn't have so many question marks around him. I mean, he's only two years removed from being traded for Ryan Spooner (where we retained salary on Spooner). Turning Spooner into a 2nd rounder--particularly if it is in this year's draft as opposed to 2021--would be a win in my book.

If Kakko, Fox, Shestyorkin and Lafreniere hit their full bonuses, that's 9.2m

I don't see Lindgren, Chytil, Howden or Gauthier hitting any PBs

I'm not talking about them hitting their bonuses. We have to account for their potential bonuses. The bonus cushion is 7.5% of the cap, which is 6.1125 mil. Every potential PB dollar above that has to be accounted for under the cap.

Can't see us making playoffs next season. I think we are 1-2 years away from making some noise.

I could see us squeaking in this year. I think we'll see a bit more from Trouba, Chytil and Kakko, and probably a bit less from Panarin and Zib. A lot will depend on goalie play, as the left side of the D will be a bit of a train wreck. But we were close to/on pace to squeak into the playoffs this year, and I think the team will be better next year.

I don’t think he doesn’t play defense, I just think, like brassard, it isn’t his strong suit. He still plays the penalty kill albeit not with a ton of skill.

Yeah, I’m sorry, but if this team doesn’t make the playoffs next, things went drastically wrong, (especially now that Staal is gone).
Idk, I could see the things that should go right going right and they still suck.

Lafrenierre is good, Kakko is better, Zibanejad and Panarin keep trucking along, Kreider is Kreider, Chytil is an NHL regular. Those are the things we care about.

All of those coupled with: Strome goes back to being a 4th liner, Fox has a sophomore slump, Zibanejad and Kreider have their annual semi-serious injuries, Howden is still here and is going to play a lot, they still have nobody at LD and Staal doesn't change that, we're still one injury from Joe Puddlebutt taking a regular shift, and things could get real ugly despite the franchise taking a positive step.

I disagree...we could have nothing go drastically wrong but simply have panarin and zibanejad not match the best years of their careers and we aren't very good. the playoffs are 100% possible and should be the target but there are still plenty of issues with this team.

Injuries are the reason that would keep this team from making the playoffs. Otherwise, the talent level is going to increase, as is the experience level. I’m expecting them to be a playoff team.

The thing that kills me about Strome is the...regularity with which we would see him coasting behind the play. A 60 point player who sucks at defense while trying? I'll deal with that. The "giving up on the play" business is something I don't want the team to tolerate, and we saw it over and over again from Strome. He seems like a great guy, well liked in the room, but he's top 6 or bust. And a contender won't have a guy like Strome in their top six. I don't see him as part of the long-term future of the team, AND I don't see his value being any higher than it is right now. I also see people talking about signing him cheap and for 1 or 2 years...why would HE do that? This is literally the best chance he's had (and likely will have) to pull in a big contract. I don't want to be the team that gives it to him. Why not move him for something and give Chytil a bit of leash to claim that 2C spot? Howden and Barron can compete for 3rd/4th line duties, and they can bring in a cheap vet UFA to push them/cover in case Barron isn't ready as well.

I'm not 100% sure that Chytil is a 2C. But if we want to be contenders in the next 2 or 3 years, I think we need to find out sooner rather than later. Same with the d-pairings. I want the team to spend the next season or two giving these kids chances so that we will know what we have and what we need to spend UFA/Trade capital on.

It would nice and it's a possibility but I'm not looking at this lineup and thinking "playoffs or bust"

If you have the option of krug or ada on a long ish term deal who's your guy based on this team and the lineup structure.

I'm not an analytics guy (my math is awful), but I remember a couple of that crowd pointing out some pretty significant issues in his game. Bottom line is that he goes balls to the wall and brings a physical edge that we haven't seen in a young blueliner since Kloucek. But he's playing a little over his head, and his style of play doesn't generally lend itself to long careers. I love the kid. He's a shot in the arm for this team's energy level, and you can see his teammates feed off of his energy. I just don't see him as a 2nd pair guy on a contender. He's like a more physical, less skilled Mike Sauer. GREAT guy to have, and probably our best LD right now, but if he's still on the 1st or 2nd pair in two years, either something went REALLY right with him, or something went REALLY wrong with the roster building.

I truly do not know what you were watching with lindgren. The kid is legit and not a 3rd pairing defenseman. he is a very solid 2nd pairing dman. The reason he was playing a little over his head is because he and Fox were are 1st pairing defenseman. Lindgren is exactly michael Sauer. Sauer really did not have an offensive game. Neither does lindgren. Lindgren is a rock defensively, physical, and very good defensively.

Fox and lindgren as our 2nd pairing, have trouba actually have a d partner that he can play with and thats a very solid top 4. Hopefully one or two of Miller, Reunenion, Robertson, blah, become a top LD and another middle pairing dman and yes maybe lindgren moves down but to say he isnt a 2nd pairing dman after being able to really hold his own against oppositions top lines during the regular season just tells me you dont see what i do when watching him.

If you're going to offer-sheet somebody -and I'll continue to believe that's a pipe dream until I see it- Anthony Cirelli checks off every box. The man was molded by the hand of God to fit every need the Rangers have right now.

The Rangers are going to offer sheet Saquon Barkley?
