Idk, I could see the things that should go right going right and they still suck.

Lafrenierre is good, Kakko is better, Zibanejad and Panarin keep trucking along, Kreider is Kreider, Chytil is an NHL regular. Those are the things we care about.

All of those coupled with: Strome goes back to being a 4th liner, Fox has a sophomore slump, Zibanejad and Kreider have their annual semi-serious injuries, Howden is still here and is going to play a lot, they still have nobody at LD and Staal doesn't change that, we're still one injury from Joe Puddlebutt taking a regular shift, and things could get real ugly despite the franchise taking a positive step.
I think a full year of Igor alone takes this team from bubble to playoffs

They have a couple of pots that have been on the back burner. I think they will continue to try and get something done if they can, and this helps them out no matter what comes to fruition.
Are they the usual pots or did any new ones come from wayfair within the last week or so?

Do you think this has changed anything with Hank? There is a lot more space open to make moves and sign players needing more money. Instead of the buyout, does this re-open the move Georgiev for assets discussions and let's Hank ride out his deal and get a sendoff?

My understanding is that both Hank and Georgiev could be gone regardless of the Staal thing.

I’m not sure if that means trade or release for Hank though.

Bit Georgiev is definitely a potential trade target for a few teams.

I'm not talking about them hitting their bonuses. We have to account for their potential bonuses. The bonus cushion is 7.5% of the cap, which is 6.1125 mil. Every potential PB dollar above that has to be accounted for under the cap.
I do not know if this effects anything, and I'm not sure if entry level bonus are signing bonuses, honestly I have not looked into it deeply at all so this may mean nothing.

Next season, players will defer 10 percent of their salary plus any applicable signing bonus money with the caveat that they will be made whole through three equal interest-free installments on Oct. 15 in 2022, 2023 and 2024, when escrow rates are capped at lower amounts.
NHL salary cap to remain same next season

and

Another interesting nugget is this: “The parties also agree to continue discussions regarding the possibility of allowing Players and Clubs to negotiate additional deferrals on an individual basis within limits”. This suggests that teams and players may be able to negotiate additional deferrals, which would be a new wrinkle. Could we see the Bobby Bonilla of the NHL in the future?

Shesterkin alone gets them into the playoffs

I hope so, but this is another area where I'd urge caution. Lundkvist, for the most part, was remarkably consistent in a way that is rare for goalies. I'm hoping that Shesterkin is that same kind of unicorn (and his numbers in Russia and the AHL seem to indicate that he is), but I am tempering my expectations until we can get a couple seasons worth of NHL games under him. I don't want to hold the kid to an impossible standard.

@Edge So your understanding is this was done to give the Rangers space, period, which was needed, and if anything arises from previous trade talks (such as filling that 2C or a D need), that’s just a bonus to have the space already cleared?

Interesting. Well Staal was a good Ranger. The head injuries kind of f***ed him over. Detroit though? I guess it's closer to Thunder Bay but they're pretty bad.

I think the Rangers were impressed with K'Andre Miller in the camp. I've had the idea since then they think he can make the team.

I was hoping one more year for K’Andre to marinate somewhere but with so much uncertainty with the ahl what other options do we have if he looks like he could fit in with the big club?

Any sense as to whether the Hank bit is coming from him or being pushed by the team? It'd sit better with me if he had made the decision to move on/try for a Cup.

Any further updates there Edge? Or status quo?

I’m in the let Hank finish his last year out here camp.

Right now I think he’s still gone, but for as much as they seem open to it, part of me wonders if they’d really go ahead and move both of their goalies from opening night last year.

There is definite interest in Shesterkin again. The question is what cost are those teams willing to pay.

I would not assume this move was done for Miller.

The Rangers stance is that he could make the club, but they aren’t banking on it. But with Hajek, Reunanen, Hajek and potentially Robertson in the mix, along with Smith at the moment, I think they want to see a good competition there.

Same. D tend to take a little longer to develop, and K'Andre hasn't been playing D for all that long to begin with. You make a good point though--what options do teams have to develop prospects this year outside of CHL players? More loans to international leagues? If they go full bubble, I wonder if they could do something like what MLS does, and have each team carry a reserve squad (which usually plays the other team's reserve squad the day after the actual MLS game).
