Marc Bergevin UFA signing

Having an experienced GM in the fold is a plus, at least. And you guys are way too suspicious  GM's in Montreal have always done stupid shit because they are under a microscope and not winning just isn't accepted. He doesn't have to worry about that here. I'm not what you would call a Bergevin fan, but I don't see why it's a terrible signing.

Also, if Helene needs help I can figure out why this has happened. The team hasn't had an AGM since Futa, and while they were in no hurry to address the position someone became available who they feel can bring something to the organization. The senior advisor tag is just there as he gets to know the organization and he will take over more responsibility with the Reign starting next year.

Also, lets not forget that DL was the most nepotistic GM we ever had, and that shit got us two cups. No guarantee that will happen again, but cmon, everyone in hockey knows everyone. All the teams put up as shining examples of development and success are loaded with ex-players and friends in their ranks.

I agree with what you said. We needed to replace Futa. But why Bergy. I mean why do this to Danault ? He is playing for an assistant GM that does not think he is worth signing?!? Unless this was already agreed with Philip it does not look good.

Maybe this is a concession to Luc from Blake to get extended, and an insurance policy from LR's perspective... weird any way you slice it

I mean the thing that's really shitty is you don't even need the tinfoil hat or cronyism angle to bash this signing.

For the AGM role to be so vacant so long then BOOM it's not like everyone was rushing out to sign Bargainbin. Don't get me wrong I'm sure he had that golden parachute for some time since Luc is clearly meddling backstabbing POS when it comes to his buddies (cough MaxPac vs. Brisson) but come on.

This is a guy whose first UFA signing was FOUR YEARS of Brandon Prust and whose first draft pick was Alex Galchenyuk. Mccarron, Scherbak, Juulsen, Sergachev--but traded him, Poehling, Kotkaniemi and got RFAed..those are his first round picks in a row until 2017....this guy bungles f***ing everything he's put his hands on in a big role. Their only draft pick to even make a moderate impact in his tenure is Lehkonen. That's a decade worth of failure.

Couldn't hang onto Danault...replaced him with LOL Dvorak. He's been on the wrong side of damn near every trade--but damn near every trade was nothing for nothing anyway.

What's he good at that anyone is defending this other than "who cares everyone knows everyone?"

1000% right on. Let's just hope he doesn't take over as GM one day. Get this guy as far away from the Kings organization as possible. His history of running or should I say ruining the Habs is clear as day but nope Luc just has to have him in the front office.

Not a fan of Bergevin while he was in Montreal. At least as the Ass GM he doesn’t pull off trades but he does seem to have a penchant for trading and might help Blake in that regard. See how it plays out I guess.

also came from a different conference and may have better backgrounds on teams out there ?

You'll be surprised to know I"m not a fan.

f***ing shoot me, could LA pull off any more nepotism? Did Luc need someone to talk shit with in French around the tables?

I've been really, really upset with Blake, Luc, and TM until the last week or so and now all this:

No details or media availability while Luc hires his BFF to run things with his other longtime non-accountability LA buddy.

This is bad. Unless you're a Ducks or Sharks fan.

Wonder if we can pick up Evander Kane, Mitch Miller, or Logan Mailloux while we're at it.

We'll be fine.

Luc is going to replace Black with his buddy

REPORT: Rob Blake Has New Extension to Remain as LA Kings GM

Yes all part of an elaborate plan to get the fan base on side to re-sign Blake to an extension. Brilliant!

10th in the West based on %, it is often pointed out to be very tough to get back into the top 8 if your team is out by Thanksgiving. It's now early January. I'd consider ALL of this news a developing story until the ink is dry. It shouldn't be dry before the end of the season

Still no official word that Bergevin will be an "Assistant General Manager". Maybe Bergevin will be the Dwight Schrute of the LA Kings organization.

You're missing DeAngelo.

I feel your pain guys. I've hated this guy since the Subban trade. This definitely stinks of nepotism. Old boys club. Not a good look.

Terrible at drafting, don't trade your prospects they may be the only good ones for a while.

Danault gone by years end.

And a lot of 4th line players useless trading that leads to nothing.

Timmins was also fired for his poor drafting.
Kings have Yanetti, we are fine at drafting. Developing forwards is still a concern.

Well we'll see how the new french puppet GM will handle the future Habs there. We all know Gorton will be the brains, the puppet will be the PR person to speak to TVA\RDS.

I heard Marek and Friedman speculating that Bergevin is trying to keep sharp and stay in the loop as he mulls over the other GM jobs open out there. They think that might be why he's only "Senior Adviser to the GM" rather than AGM. I think Hoven's point that Bergevin's arrangement is short term aligns with that as well, and as many others have pointed out, Hextall did the same thing.

Lots of discussion on this on the 32 Thoughts podcast. Sounds like it hopefully might not be long term a permanent move necessarily. Also:
