I'm gonna have to start thinking about taking a contrarian view - so many people hate this.

I'll have to agree with Lisa Dillman on this one - why no press conference or other information? It does speak volumes.

or you know..Futa could have kept

I thought Futa would be running a team by now. Not sure why he hasn't taken a job yet.

As for MB, meh, he will have no control over the team other than another voice in the room if that. Blake is still the gm, MB will probably be in the scouting department or whatever.

I don't really have an issue with MB coming on board. He is bold which i like. He turned PK into Weber with nashville owning the risk of recapture, he realized Galchenyuk was going nowhere and turned him into domi, and then andersson.

Does he have misses and bad contracts. of course, what GM doesn't.

I am not a Blake fan but I think having someone with more experience as the team hopefully turns a corner cannot hurt. I just think there have been a lot of good managers you left that now are being replaced.

They were just talking about it on the NHL Network. Basically, Friedmen says it's just a short term thing to keep him involved in the NHL until another GM spot open in the summer [he brought up the Ducks vacancy]. There is no long term deal. There was no inclination that he was brought in to replace Blake if he didn't get his extension either. He will work as an advisor and go from there.

i hope LA gets something tangible out of this and not just helping him find his next role. At the very least maybe a future trade partner

Basically its so Luc has a drinking buddy for a bit (hey id prob do the same for a friend). If he is going after the Duck job (or any West conf) is it a good idea to open the kimono to our entire org? Def could find leverage in trades knowing some of the strengths and weaknesses of our prospects as they develop.

This makes the most sense.
Further, i doubt AEG would ok spending a bunch on a high priced AGM. Makes sense we're partially doing him a favor getting back in the game/relevant for the next several months before the season ends and openings will arise -- while we get an experienced FO guy for cheap who can help give some ideas to Blake (who is still learning on the job btw) and pass along some knowledge he's picked up about players, other FOs, trade dealings, scouting, etc. I'm going to assume that's it and take several large steps away from the ledge.

If a shark bites Rob Blake off the coast of Manhattan Beach, the Kings are covered.

Lots of discussion on this on the 32 Thoughts podcast. Sounds like it hopefully might not be long term a permanent move necessarily. Also:

I don't remember the exact words, but Dreger and Friedman said something that seemed to imply to me that it would likely be a longer term thing if Bergevin doesn't find a GM job elsewhere. It would make sense of the report of a 3-year AGM deal coming into place after the season in that the 3-year AGM deal could be contingent on him not finding anything else in the interim.

Bergevin does like grit. He could be a good pro scout to help add someone better than a guy like Nate Thompson or Torrey Mitchell.

Two guys that Bargain Bin Bergevin brought to the Habs, and were total fails. Expect random WTF signings and lots of waiver wire acquisitions that won't ever make sense. In fact, Mitchell and Thompson are EXACTLY the kind of player Bergevin seeks out. Good luck. Sorry for your loss (and future losses).

1) The Kings acquired Mitchell from the Habs.
2) The Kings had Thompson thrown in the Phaneuf trade before trading him to Montreal.
3) Bergevin is not the GM of the Kings.
