Look everyone wanted KK to become a Barkov... but he really isn’t that good a player

As McGuire said towards end of last season, if KK hasn’t taken the next step by Xmas 2021, have to question the pick - Habs obviously believed KK was incapable of doing so in 3-4 months
You can't use the same time-line during COVID.

Habs didn't believe the gamble was good enough for them, Carolina on the other hand did and were willing to give a 1st/3rd for it.
KK has good size and he was just starting to learn how to impose himself in the NHL.
He has a strong shot, needs to work on his release and accuracy but the power is there.
He doesnt mind the gritty areas and will battle it out.

Kid is young, it's too early to give a definitive statement on him.

Do you want me to post a bunch of articles where people are saying it's not about revenge.

And I'll ask again, if this is revenge then it's only over if KK does well right? Because if KK struggles then Dundon hasn't gotten any revenge so we should expect an offer sheet for Suziki in that case right?

Seems like you think revenge is like from knights stories that lasts for generations. lol Dundon had his blow. Now that's over. He made his point. Revenge doesn't mean he'll continue till the end of days. I don't get your logic.

So somebody embarrasses you, you try to get them back and just end up even more embarrassed and it's over? You can't be serious, you think people have sought revenge after failing to get it in over 500 years? I don't even know what to say about that.

It has nothing to do with revenge. Carolina has been high on KK since the draft:
''While the Hurricanes had three years worth of data on Kotkaniemi as an NHL player to evaluate in making the decision to sign him, their evaluation went back further than that. When Kotkaniemi was drafted third overall in 2018, the Hurricanes had the pick before that, which obviously became Andrei Svechnikov.
Kotkaniemi, however, was a player the team’s scouts also did quite a bit of work on, and Waddell and his brain trust referred back to that in making this decision.''

“Certainly, at that time, we discussed the player at great length, did interviews,” Waddell said. “Everybody was very familiar with the player as not only a player but as a person. We made a decision to draft Andrei. Darren Yorke, who leads our amateur scouts, was very much a big part of this when we were talking about what type of player we saw in Jesperi and what type of player we feel he can be. You interview a lot of players in the draft for future knowledge, and obviously this one was a little different but came to light as we started talking about this player.”''

As for the idea of revenge, Waddell said:
''It certainly was not revenge,” Waddell said. “We talked about this player, we know this player. We used the CBA, as other teams have in the past, to try to acquire a 21-year-old player. So to us, it was all about the player. We looked around the league and thought this made the most sense from where we are as a team. As you know, we have a couple other good Finnish players on our team and thought this would be a great fit. The release, that’s a marketing thing. We’re trying to continue to build our franchise here in Raleigh, trying to keep our fans engaged. Our social team gets huge marks from the NHL, and they had some fun with it.”

As he explains, the little daggers, it's really more about a marketing strategy. No different than them playing along with Don Cherry calling them a bunch of jerks because of their celebrations.
They saw an opportunity to create more noise and seized it. Brilliant move by them.
If you don't care about hockey in Carolina, guaranteed their troll job was at least a good talk around town.
So no, it had nothing to do with revenge.

Getting back at someone doesn't mean till the end of days. It's professional sport, it's not like a blood feud where someone killed a person of that family. You can get back at someone without being a perpetual thing. Making a move trying to get back at someone happens all the time in day to day life. But if that person doesn't succeed, it doesn't mean that that person has to try again and again. We are not in a daytime soap.

Again, you make no sense.

Of course they would say that.

And it completely contradict all the arrogant messages they sent after the offer sheet.

I hate that we live in a world where people just form their opinions and not even the words of the person they're talking about is enough to make them change their stance. No. It must be that he's omitting the real truth that, you, Kimota, surely knows.

There's nothing contradicting, he flat out says that it's marketing having fun and trolling, which they've been doing regularly btw for quite some time.

It's their job to lie. They do it all the time going back to Serge Savard. GMs are like politicians. It happens all the time where people say things to save face. Whether it's court cases or company sending messages to the press as PR moves. Surely you have seen that before?

My God, you really think they would have gone "yea we were pissed off, we were trying to get back at them but were waiting for the exact moment. We targed this player, analyzed what he would bring us, we liked him and then we made the move". Which is probably what happened.

And yes I like living in a World where people form their own opinions.

So people trying to get back at someone happens all the time in your day to day life and it's over 100% of the time regardless of whether the person got back successfully or not? Somehow I find that hard to believe. It's even harder to believe that someone would spend 6m dollars trying to get even, failing and giving up.

Except what you described yourself isn't about revenge, it's about the player they analyzed and liked.
This is competitive pro sport so yes I'm sure they didn't like their guy getting an offer sheet, that is a far cry from suggesting they targeted KK to be vengeful.

And no, it's not their job to lie. Their job is to built a contending team and win.
They do not target KK, offer him 6.1M, and give us a 1st or 3rd for him if they did not really like him.
The fact they were trying to trade for him before signing to an offer sheet is all you need to know.

Not just 6.1M...they also give up a 1st+3rd along with it.
You'd have to be one of the pettiest person in the world to do that.

Agreed which is the point. If you are that petty, then there's no way it would be over until you felt vindicated.

Let's make a bet my friend.

I bet that the worst defensive forward in the league will get 60 points this year.

If he doesn't get 60 points and you accept the bet I'm out forever but if you accept and he gets 60 points you're out forever.

Are you game my chicken friend?

If you Believe Waddell and that shit sandwich he's trying to feed everyone then I'm left with no choice but to assume you believe in Santa Claus also.

I don't care how high you are on a player, you don't pay 6.1m$ for a 5 goal scorer who's been declining since his first year, not a chance you do that and if Bergevin would do this you'd be destroying him and his incompetency's and you know damn well you would.

heck, Bergevin paid Anderson 5.5m$ after a 1 goal injury plagued season but prior to that that player had scored 27 and people were losing their minds but the other GM is somehow now a visionary and it's all good lol

Bergevin believes in paying for past performance, other GMs believe in paying for future performance.

Carolina didn't acquire Kotkaniemi so that he can score 5 goals.

So at $6.1M, he's going to put up 60-65 points this year. Interesting, better snag him in my draft
