Outplaying opponent.
Other team laying the body
Getting goalied.
Not getting saves.
Not finishing chances where we have the goalie beat.

Any of these ring a bell?

This game is similar to playoff losses. It's a fact. How can it not raise some concern?

I am concerned about Campbell having a .750 save percentage... Sure. Nobody is winning with that.

The rest, I am not concerned about... Because if we even get basic goaltending, we are at least tied in this game, and we win a lot more games than we lose.

The Flames wore them down with a very physical first period. The team actually played well in the 1st. Since Rielly stood up for Kase, where has he been? Where has Mattews and Marner been? Tavares and Nylander had a nice goal, but aren't touching dangerous ice right now. Goaltending completely dissolves (doesn't matter who is in net) and at least 1 pairing makes boneheaded plays (Gardiner, Holl, whoever).

I've seen this script too often. The team still needs to get tougher. That is their need and I hope Dubas realizes this. We need guys who can throw hits outside of our bottom line. Their best chance is to draw against a team who plays a skill game first like the Penguins or something because if they catch a team who can play us like this, we aren't up to it.

We might win a round or two but we can't win 7 games of this currently

The problem is that they can't or they won't. No cap space, this is their core.

We lost some jam with Bogosian, Simmonds is out, Ritchie was sadly lacking heart and motivation, Clifford is a 4th Liner out of favour.

It's a certainty that every team in the East is heavier than the Leafs save for the Pens. Each of these teams will try to exploit this.

Have the Leafs ever shown a willingness to play in the trenches in five years? It's no secret. It's why the loss to the Habs last year was particularly painful.

I think Campbell could lose hold of the net and there might be a point in time when the contract situation means the Leafs are more invested in Mrazek running with the ball. Sort of reverting to the way the Leafs drew it up in the offseason.
I dont think either is a starting goalie to be honest.

Jack deserves a lot of blame but the Leafs skaters imploded for a solid 5 minutes with a deer in the headlights impersonation. It felt like a loss all night though, the "dominate" but let other teams hang around until you screw up and lose is just not a good strategy.

Those goals didn't come in a 5 minute span
Leafs forward did their part and they are doing their part

It's actually back breaking when you work so hard only to see an easy one go in

Should have put Ritchie in for Simmonds tonight instead of going with 7D. Missing some physicality. Lots of candidates for a night off: Holl.... Dermott... Liljigren. Its troubling how often Kase and Muzzin get rocked with hits. Can see why the injuries are adding up for those two

did that guy just say he wants the Flames big 3 over the Leafs? Do the Flames even have a big 3? lol

Muzzin is toast, hope we trade him in the offseason.

Sometimes the other team just outclasses you on the night. No shame in that. Long season.

Calgary is getting better goaltending. They're far superior physically and they're finishing their chances with much better class tonight.

Sometimes you just tip your cap. Toronto might be dominating shots and possession, but this is the game Calgary plays. It's effective for them.

So us averaging 3 GA since January is all on the goaltenders? We're trying to blame Campbell for this game when 2 of the last 3 goals were just bad defence.

Except we aren't getting boxed out, and they are giving up numerous high quality chances that will go in more often than not.

It is hilarious that Leafs fans are convincing themselves that letting the other team's goalie stands on their head while they play ass defense is a game plan. It is not, and Sutter is probably laying into his team right now for it too.

He knows they are lucky that it is not 4-1 Leafs right now.

Calgary beat VGK 6-0 last night and are up 4-1 on a back to back. If you don’t think they’re playing a park the bus, take up space and try to get opportunistic I don’t know what to tell you.

They defend the slot pretty well, scramble all the plays and you’d be hard pressed to list very many moments when the Big 4 are teeing it off clean. The only goal the Leafs scored is an example of how many layers of scrambled plays you need to complete tonight to get anything in. Calgary is playing a shell road game at home.

They wore us down in the 1st, yet they were completely out of the entire 2nd period until they scored 3 goals on 3 shots against Campbell... And 2 of them were far from hard saves.

Frequently the team with the better goalie is more effective. ;)

Would they have enough cap room to do that? Beats me.

I think that’s why they have two guys and run the hotter option.

But look at Markstrom at the other end. Second game of a back to back after a shutout last night. Leafs might have some juice left but that’s a workhorse.
