Here's the thing. When I made the comparison to Montreal earlier when it was 1-1, you'll notice Calgary is playing the park the bus game. So Toronto can buzz around all they want, hold the puck all they want, spam shots all they want but they're still getting boxed out and Markstrom is having a pretty good time. This would be the Game 6 OT trap.
Thing is those 16 OT shots and these 32 shots today probably combine for 4-5 goals against our goaliesz….we needed a save. In game 6, a much more intense save as compared to the present as it was a tipped shot. But yet again we come back to needing saves. It doesn’t matter if we give up 31 shots or 20 we aren’t getting saves now and it’s becoming a serious concern

Pretty funny how people were bitching and moaning about simmonds all pre game thread…

wonder if there is any coincidence to how even the softest players on the flames are running around laying the body.

pretty sure this game would look a bit different with simmonds in the lineup

Yup that is what happens when you know nobody on the other side is going to kick your ass.

You think they're getting bullied and not getting to the inside?? Go rewatch the first half of the game lmao. Markstrom was swimming but making saves. Campbell was beat clean on multiple shots.
Outplaying opponent.
Other team laying the body
Getting goalied.
Not getting saves.
Not finishing chances where we have the goalie beat.

Any of these ring a bell?

This game is similar to playoff losses. It's a fact. How can it not raise some concern?

Yeah this game is exactly the roadmap that we lose time and time again, and it's playoff style hockey.

Except we aren't getting boxed out, and they are giving up numerous high quality chances that will go in more often than not.

It is hilarious that Leafs fans are convincing themselves that letting the other team's goalie stand on their head while they play ass defense is a game plan. It is not, and Sutter is probably laying into his team right now for it too.

He knows they are lucky that it is not 4-1 Leafs right now.

I am always told by Keefe and Dubas fans that:

we are 3rd on PP, we are on pace for 108 points or something
We look faster, we are better defensively

The Leafs have had a ton of shots but they haven’t made it hard enough for Markstrom.

Goals 2 and 4 were not good.

The Leafs have no answer for the physicality of the Flames, being dominated but somehow, they’ve taken six penalties, including another too many men penalty and a completely unthreatened Brodie putting the puck over the glass.

They didn’t even look that bad, but it’s the way she goes.

Your 100% correct. Team needs to sack up and play. Dubas needs to move some of the softness off this roster as well.

Jack deserves a lot of blame but the Leafs skaters imploded for a solid 5 minutes with a deer in the headlights impersonation. It felt like a loss all night though, the "dominate" but let other teams hang around until you screw up and lose is just not a good strategy.

Am I missing something wrt all the posts about the team losing because of toughness? They’re losing because it’s past midnight and jack campbells glass slipper has turned back into a pumpkin meanwhile markstrom has been solid.

Hoping for the miracle finish, I'll watch to the bitter end.
I commend you very much for that. As I have school, I don’t feel like staying up till 12 watching a game that we don’t deserve to lose

I hope for a win still and will be amazed if we do

I think Campbell could lose hold of the net and there might be a point in time when the contract situation means the Leafs are more invested in Mrazek running with the ball. Sort of reverting to the way the Leafs drew it up in the offseason.
