Too many men was obvious... Interference was obvious... Mo absolutely instigated that "fight" so it was obvious... 3 of those 4 pwankities were completely obvious. Hard not to call them.

Tavares and Matthews getting crosschecked into the boards within seconds of each other was also obvious.

Also if "head being low" is an excuse then I wonder why was Spezza suspended when he made contact with a guy's head that was knee level?

Being tall isn’t a blank cheque to hit people in the head because they are shorter. If you can’t deliver the check in a way that doesn’t make the principle point of contact the head, you don’t make the hit. End of story

That's a clean as a hit you are going to see. There was no intent to hit the head
Key word is intent

Kase is 5'11 and Z is 6'5
THere's absolutley no he cannot hit him and not get his full body or every part of Kase's body

ALso, watch the hit in real time, not in slow mo
In real time I definitely agree, Kase was digging in and pretty low too.
Hope he’s okay.
Nice to see Mo step in.

"intent" has never been the key word for hits to the head.. what are you talking about?

Seems like a size mismatch, nothing Zadorov could’ve done other than back off the hit.
Kase should’ve had his head up earlier unfortunately.

The bigger player has a responsibility not to make contact with the head though. Being tall shouldn't be a free pass for headshots. Even if one wants to argue it wasn't "intentional", extreme recklessness can be just as bad

Leafs are just not built for this brand of hockey. Hopefully the beat them up on the scoreboard with skill but you don’t want to get pushed around either. I would say that’s an unfortunate result of a good hit with a big guy. Let’s see how they come out in the 2nd.

zadorov is one of the hardest hitters in the league and kase is careless af. it's like watching lindros play against stevens. but I think kase looked fine.

is there some leeway? didn't look like zadorov was head hunting. just size difference / change in angle... idk.

seemed clean but you are right, whole lot of head contact.
Personally when it comes to the head there should be no leeway. Does the nfl give a rats ass? No. If there’s contact to the head it’s a penalty. Period.

Who are the beat writers now? Shilton was the best at basically doing play by play on Twitter, who's doing it now? Who does game time lineups and such?

David Alter, Jonas Siegel (for lines and game day news), Terry Koshan, Kevin McGran, Lance Hornby. TicTacOmar does play by play with GIFs

Well at some point the onus is on the players to keep their head up.

You tell me. Kase certainly did not have his head down.

He is smaller, and he was just finishing playing the puck so he was bending down, but that is a clear hit to the head... And the NHL has called that a hit to the head on numerous occasions.

Now it is a question of what Zadorov can do in terms of avoiding it unless he just doesn't hit people, because it is not like he left his skates and there is nothing he can do about being 6'6", but this whole nonsense on TSN saying that he had his head down and it wasn't a hit to the head is BS. It 100% was, and Kase 100% did not have his head down.

IDK if you really call it a dirty hit, and the NHL seems to have no clue themselves, but Rielly should not have received an extra penalty. Come on. Stupid inconsistency, just like the 6 men on the ice calls against us. Even that interference call against Holl was bad.

Why are people saying this shit? We killed 4 penalties and went toe to toe with them despite the physicality. They laid a huge hit and the team responded. What do you want? You are acting like they all got beat up and are losing 5-0

Based on Rielly's response to the hit, I'll be surprised if the Leafs don't come out with a more physical approach in the 2nd. That's one of those moments that a team rally's around.

I mean if our D threw that hit we'd be jumping out of our chairs saying LETS GOOOOOOO.

Kase needs to be more aware. But he fell nicely so I think he's fine. I'd be worried if his head hit the ice after.
Certainly got the landing down, guess the experience is paying off in one way.

That’s zadorovs problem not Kase. Zads is always 6’5” so it’s not an excuse to hit guys high. Either be better or don’t

No, that's not how it works. The rule is designed for avoidable contact (i.e. chicken wing hit to the face). If a player hits straight on, it is deemed as unavoidable contact and is legal. Even if the face is hit first.

The game is too fast for any other rule to be implemented.

The height difference is what initiates the higher contact. This is why it has to be mentioned as a factor. Plus, Kase leaning forward on the pass exaggerates the height difference.

I mean I have no reason to defend Zadorov. But we gotta be fair here.

Dude's like 6'5
Everthing about him is someone's head not named Chara

You are correct but there is a reason we do not see Chara and the giant club making heads and helmets fly off on the highlight reels every night.

The big boys need to find ways to hit where they don't hit the head first. He clearly did not head hunt but he was still responsible for hitting the head, Kase also idiot for having his head down but still, I see that getting called 9 out of 10 times. 100% head contact.
